Topic: What's blooming in your garden?

The most amazing scent of lilacs is wafting through my yard and I just had to share! These are actual images of my garden. I look forward to them blooming every year. I love the deep blue-purple of these gorgeous blooms. I'm going to cut some this weekend and put them in a vase so I can enjoy the smell indoors too.

What flowers are perfuming you garden right now?

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Those are gorgeous!  I wish they would grow here but my climate is too hot for lilacs.

Blooming today:  honeysuckle, wild roses, jasmine, Iceberg roses, Jacqueminot roses.

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Thanks whiten!

keilidh, I love bulbs too! I bet yours are pretty. I had daffodils and irises but they're all spent now. Waiting for tulips.

Kiku, your garden must smell amazing! I love honeysuckle... and so many roses you have!

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

What a beautiful sight, they look really admirable, ınfact I 'm always  in love with the flowers that have strong scents, besides lilac has a very cute appearence, but it's a pity they fade very quickly.
Nowadays I smell only honeysuckle from my garden.

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Oooh, beautiful lilacs!
"My" garden (our neighbourhood cortyard, so ot's not actually mine, but it's big and I'm in charge of it) is full of bulbs at the moment, white tulips (Tulipa 'Purissima', one of my favourites), yellow daffodils and blue hyacinths. I buy bulbs late in fall when they're on sale, so there are loafs of them (joy!).
Two big magnolia trees (Magnolis kobus) and one big magnolia shrub (Magnolia stellata) are also in bloom, as well as a few purple azaleas (but they don't smell much).

Our lilacs will be in bloom in a couple of weeks (if it warms up at all, it's freeeeezing at the moment), and the rhododendrons are just about to break out in bloom.

I love spring...

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Those are gorgeous lilacs, Tigerlilian! They look like the old-fashioned dark purple kind that have the best fragrance. We're not that far from you, but our spring has been an all-time record cold and wet one, so the lilacs are just in bud now. The camellias, which normally bloom in December, are just now blooming. Azaleas, daffodils, and tulips are in full bloom, despite the cold.

Best of all, the cherry trees are covered with flowers, and very fragrant. I love the delicate cherry-blossom scent, and I hope the bees will, too, because I want a good crop of cherries later this spring!

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

tigerlillian-- your lilac trees are beautiful. i've never seen any so big. we only have bushes here, ours don't ever grow that big. the smell must be wonderful, i can imagine. lilac is one of my favorite scents.

right now i have tulips and grape hyacinths blooming. forthysia and honesuckle are starting to come alive and my fox gloves and sweet williams are coming up, but won't flower for awhile.

we just planted lettuce and strawberries, but have much more to plant when it gets a little warmer, especially tomatoes.

later i'll have lambs ears, silver dollars, dahlias, canna lilys, queen anne's lace and gladiolis blooming as well as my butterfly bush which seduces big bumble bees and beautiful butterflys to my yard.

my herbs are starting too, but i need to replant some, especially basil. i love spring and summer and the abundance it brings.

happy planting everyone and i hope all your gardens and flowers grow like they never have before.

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Oh, your lillacs are gorgeous! what do you do to them to make them bloom like that?
I bought a small twig in a paper cup 3 years ago, and while it grew amazing in these 3 years, it never bloomed :( and each mid-summer, it gets full of mildew :( btw, it's a japanese kind, but I lost the tag...

otherwise, i am in mud to my elbows, I am doing a lot of gardening, planting new clematis and new roses, growing a lot of stuff from seed ( wintersowing) pruning, fertilizing and so. I really enjoy my small garden, but everything is so late this year! Nothing is blooming yet, except the spring bulbs.  and I had so many casualities this winter, really heart-breaking ( especially among roses)
I have some wonderful hyacints perfuming my yard, but that's about it.
Oh, as some forget-me-not, but those I consider almost weeds, ( pretty weeds)
My Elsa Spath clematis is setting buds, and the rest are just starting to get green.

Be nice!

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Zumrut, honeysuckle has such a gorgeous fragrance, I'm jealous!

ichigogirl, I love blue hyacinths (in fact, I love any blue flower) and magnolias http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/hjarta.gif I tried planting a blue hydrangea but I think it suffered some shock and perhaps I planted in the wrongs spot and so it died sad Any tips would be appreciated!

Oh Doc Elly, cherries!! How divine! I hope you get bushels of them. I have a Bing cherry and some kind of fluorescent red tart cherry I use for pies. Are you still growing orchids? And camelias, how beautiful. and yes, hasn't the weather been horrible?

boardbat, yes, it's a big tree and I haven't seen any that size ever. Before I moved to this house about 7 years ago (complete with lilacs) I'd only heard of lilac 'bushes.' Your garden sounds gorgeous and so inviting, especially with the butterfly bushes! I bet it's a treat to see the pretty butterflies come to visit.

Adiro, actually I'm not very good in the garden and my plants have been somewhat neglected. I guess my lilac tree likes the abuse http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/visslar.gif But my baby is a little older this year and walking so we'll be spending a lot more time outdoors in the garden this year.

Really?... So am I with your lilac trees.
When I step out the house a cloud of fragrance of honeysuckles surrounds me, that makes me feel very nice.
Nevertheless I can never pass through a lilac tree without smelling it.http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/20.gif

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

currently i have a couple red tulips in my garden, and some purple crocuses and blue liverleaves blossomed a while ago
- a couple random daisies and lilies of the valley usually show up during the summer, then we have 3 kinds of roses (light pink, pink, and yellow), and purple and white syringas (or what do you call them, lilac trees?), and a grefsheim spirea (i don't know if that's the right name..)

i used to grow strawberries in one corner of the garden, but frost killed them

Ladies, so lovely to read what you're growing! Please keep them coming as they blossom! http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/30.gif

Blimunda, thank you so much for posting those beautiful flowers--so beautful. Almond trees remind me of an Italian friend I had in Australia when I was in third grade. She had a few on her property and we used to climb it and pick the almonds to eat raw! (Then there was this time I fell on her cactus plant and got cactus needles in my butt!!! OUCH! http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/69.gif )

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Wow! Beautiful shots girls! I am a green eyed monster right now. Unfortunately, I can't have the opportunity as I live in a flat. I was into pot gardening few years ago and had Indian basil, tamarind, tomatoes and chillies but the latter two never gave fruits. However, tamarind gives fruit after many years so just enjoyed eating its tangy leaves and basil leaves were just a fantastic treat.

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Oh tamarind! I love this fruit! It reminds me of visits to see my family in Thailand. Do you know if Indian basil is anything like sweet Thai basil? I love cooking with it!

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Hi,

The one I had tasted similar to fennel seeds like it had the aroma similar to it and was best enjoyed in herbal tea rather than in cooking food.

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

Husband has planted five hibiscus bushes outside our dining nook window.  Several have bloomed yellow, red, red-orange, all singles.    We have the heat for hibiscus but are going through a drought, so the bushes may  not get as big as they would be if rainy. No fragrant flowers for us this year, though.http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/grater.gif        Three basil plants.http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/applause.gif

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

gazelle, your hibiscus sounds beautiful and such gorgeous colors! And more basil! This is making me want to plants some.

Naheed, I looked it up. I think Thai basil and Indian are different. And you're right! I have had it in tulsi tea!! Delicious http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/storstark.gif ( <--- I'll pretend that's tea, not beer!)

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

In my garden in northern Italy now the roses are at the top. But from the hood the smell of acacia and sambuco (not able to translate) are amazing in these sweet spring evening hours.

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/30.gifThank you for the lilacs! They are just starting to bloom where I live. also my daughter and I went for a walk yeaterday and she was taking pictures of tulips and some others I don't know the names of but all the flowers are beautiful. It's about time that spring flowers are here.  All kinds of blooming fruit trees of all kinds mostly pink and white flowers on those.  I haven't lived here very long so I don't know what everything is.

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

My daffodils are bobbing their pretty heads among the geraniums. Next month, the roses will come, along with the irises; And then the daisies, hydrangeas, and peonies will come to linger all summer long. http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/30.gif

Re: What's blooming in your garden?

One of my favorite scents Lilac . . .  beautiful pics.  Where I live that have been long gone.  I have daisies, day lilies, sage, laural (Mt. Ivy), lady slippers and little brown jugs (they are funny looking), pansies. And tomatoes, love to smell the leaves, pure summer!! Mom makes fun of me because I go around rubbing the leaves. http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/21.gif
