Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

The fashions were dreadful! We all looked like "teenage runaway hookers". I'm so embarrassed to see pictures of myself from that time. My favorite products:

shampoo: Twice As Nice, Protein 21, Yucca Dew, Gee Your Hair Smells Teriffic, Body On Tap

Angel Face, Corn Silk, and Lady Esther powders. MoistureWear and Touch and Glow make-ups.

Rose Milk body lotion, Raintree moisturizer.

Love cosmetics(remember the eye shadow that came in an eyeball?).

perfumes: Skinny Dip, Oh! de London, Love's Baby Soft

Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

I actually think they had a better selection of shampoos/conditioners in the 70s'....i f I had a time machine I'd bring back bottles of Vidal Sassoon...Wella Balsam...Body On Tap...Flex...and a few more I can't think of at this moment!

Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

Oooohh and I loved Silkience by Gillette!!!

Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

Yes! Like Agree and Condition shampoo by Clairol. Coty Potstickers lipglosses and eyeshadows in little earthenware pots. Those barrel-like Bonne Bell Lipsmackers. (I still use these but only in the small size because they don't make the big ones anymore. In the 1970's your lips couldn't have too much gloss on them!) Oh yeah! Lemon-Up Shampoo with the plastic lemon for a cap.

Remembering more perfumes now:http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.3664.jpg Estée Lauder Aliage ,http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.7523.jpg Jovan Musk ,http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.546.jpg Estée Lauder Cinnabar (The Opium challenger),http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.46.jpg Guerlain Nahema , Blue Jeans by Shulton,http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.4596.jpg Charles of the Ritz Enjoli .

Hi boardbat...the funniest thing happened to me a few weeks ago I was searching for something in my basement and stumbled upon an old cookie tin and was like what in the world is in here? and when I opened it I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw I had a bunch of trial size packages of Flex!! They were from a hotel from a Vacation I took about 12 years ago!! and to my delight when I opened one the smell was exactly the same...to me that was like finding a hidden treasure!!

God, I feel so old now!  Ten-o-six, I had totally forgotten about along with Sunsilk shampoo!  Oil of Olay was called Oil of Ulay then in the UK.  I had my beautiful brown crimpolene flying suit that was skin tight, zipped up the front with a massive collar and huge flared trousers.  Worn, of course, with my denim platforms with massive flowers on.

Not going out of the house without having "done" my hair with heated rollers and masses of Harmony hairspray...you know..."is she or isn't she?"

Wow, I need to shuffle back to the old people's home now...!!!

"I was gonna give it up but its one of those nights...R White's Lemonade...I'm a secret lemonade drinker!"

Jackie!!!! O...M...G!!!!  I spent hours trying to get my hair flicked back at the sides and despite a million gallons of hairspray, it always flopped!  Lip gloss back then just seemed to be made of sugar syrup, sticking my lips together!

Ah the Tonibell icecream van...do you remember Mini Mivis? You know the Cornish icecream on a stick?  Oh I don't know if they still make them, but they were soooo good!

What about the rag and bone man...did he ever come round your way?  Crikey, I am old!  "Anyoldragnboooooone!?!"

You won't believe this but we STILL have a rag and bone man!( I live in the north-west these days where old traditions are clinging on for dear life),Still have a milkman too.

Did you have the Round Table coming round in a float at Christmas playing carols? And do you remember the power cuts of the mid-seventies? How did you used to while away the hours with no telly?

Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

Wow, I didn't know there were any of them left, but I used to live on the Wirral and now live in London where modern life has swept away any of the quaint traditions of yore! lol!

Don't remember a float at Christmas, but maybe my memory is playing tricks.  Oh the wonderful power cuts!  I tell my kids what it was like and I'm sure they don't believe me!  We used to have to cook dinner on a gas camping stove (I believe it was a Prima stove?)  Lots of beans and tinned soup!  Funnily enough, we didn't always have a telly.  My kids don't believe this either...but we used to rent one when we could afford to from Granada.  I think they were eventually bought out by Redifusion, but then they went out of business when renting tellies just wasn't worth it for people any more.  I don't know if you can still rent a telly?  We used to play Scrabble and Monopoly, oh and Mastermind!!! I used to love that game!  There was a card game that we had that I can't remember the name of...it had different families, who did different jobs...I can't think what it was called.

Yardley glitter pot lipgloss. Aziza eyeshadow trios. Coty made a cream solid stick blush that absolutely matches today's Nars blush in orgasm. Tabu (thought it sounded mysterious-added strawberry oil to it), Yardley Musk, Loves Fresh Lemon, Avon Hawaiian White Ginger, and 4711. My style? A cross between hippy and-goth before there was goth. Black clothes, capes, halter tops, platforms, ethnic jewelry.  Summers with bad fake tans by Coppertone and orange hair from using Sun-In. Fun topic!

Lol! He used to come round the streets with a horse-drawn cart ( now it's a van) collecting unwanted items and rubbish. He was called a rag and bone man because originally ( victorian times) he would collect old clothes and bones left over from joints of meat because these were things he could make money from. The rag and bone man would shout to let people know he was there. Our current rag and bone has a recording of "Any Old Iron" by Lonnie Donigan which he plays really loudly.next door neighbours dog goes crazy!

Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

Those cosmetic ads are neat.  I would love to see some retro-packaging on modern day products.

BTW, the shampoo Gee Your Hair Smell Terrific is still made, in the Phillipines.  A friend of mine grew up there and she said you can still buy it.

1/1/2015:  I have a perfume swap listing over in the Perfume Exchange section.  Interesting stuff is listed over there.

That's too funny!  Reminds me of Monty Python:  "Bring out your dead!"

£9 a roll?? In the seventies?! They made a lot of money for our rags and bones if they could afford wallpaper at £9 a roll!

Darkclarissa, did you have some clackers? or a spacehopper?Did you prefer Donny Osmond or David Cassidy? Starsky or Hutch?

Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

Lol!  I know, £9 I was shocked myself!  But flock wallpaper, remember when it was de rigeur to have that?

I didn't like either Donny Osmond or David Cassidy, I liked David Bowie!  His Space Oddity was the first single I bought.  And it was always Hutch, no argument!  But I had a soft spot for Dr Banner from the Hulk series.  Remember the sad music as he walked down the road at the end of every episode?

I had a spacehopper alright.  Do you remember Hostess Trollies?  It was one of those things I would see advertised and think that this was how posh people lived ha!  Cheese fondue anyone?

Re: Do you remember the fashion and beauty products of the 70's?

David Bowie..great taste.Life On Mars is my all time favourite song.

The fact that you liked Bowie rather than Osmond/Cassidy makes me think you might be slightly older than me (lol.that's what I choose to believe, anyway. My older sister was into Bowie and Bolan)

I had a spacehopper and some luminous green clackers, and my jacko rollerskates were never off my feet in 1971.

I do remember David Banner sadly walking up the road in The Incredible Hulk (I can hear the music in my head right now!)

Hostess trolleys,Teasmades and serving hatches were the height of middle class sophistication, weren't they. Have you ever seen Abigail's Party? It's SO evocative of the mid-seventies.I love it,I could watch it over and over.
