Topic: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.698.jpg Dolce&Gabbana The One :I used to hate this, as I thought it was another boring oriental that smelled like all the others. Then a magazine recently had a test strip of it, which I thought was odd, as it's an older fragrance. Prepared to hate it, I tried it, and I LOVED it! It's now a gorgeous rich floral, classy and expensive smelling.  I'm going to buy it, but I'll test to make sure it's this new reformulated version first. Any other unannounced secret reformulations out there?

Re: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

I don't know if these were announced or not but http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.210.jpg Dior J`adore Eau de Parfume and http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.94.jpg Yves Saint Laurent Paris have been reformulated. Awful, horrible reformulations.

I wanted to buy my grandmother a new bottle of http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.96.jpg Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche so I tested it in the store and it's been butchered...another bad reformulation.

I don't know of any good reformulations.

Where as other products constantly shout "New and Improved Formula" perfume is the exact opposite.  It is quietly and sneakily downgraded!

It must be gin o'clock!

@Star Light Angel

Paris? Really? Haven't smelled that in ages, I must try it.

I wanted to get Rive Gauche at Shopper's, but I haven't seen it in awhile. It's a shame if that's been changed, it was so good, a real classic. I'll be careful and try it first if I see it again.

I knew J'adore was changed, hated the reformulation, smelled like men's aftershave on me. But I never cared for the first one either.

Thanks for letting me know about these!

I guess I got lucky with The One, I was shocked by the change for the better!

Lol! So true! It's like they just want to make a fast buck off them. Sometimes when one sees a classic marked down, it's a horrible reformulation. Must test first!

Yeah, Paris has been pretty much massacred IMO.

I have a bottle of vintage Paris and I compared it with a sample of the new one and to me it was like the difference between sipping champagne in a rose garden on a summer evening OR standing in an hospital restroom that had a cheap rose scented air freshener and the strong smell of disinfectant in it.

I managed to get hold of a bottle of vintage Rive Gauche in the end for my grandma. If you want a bottle it's worth looking for vintage on ebay.

I haven't tested The One for quite a while. I want to try the reformulation now. smile

Re: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

For once there's a reformulation that's an improvement:

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.3945.jpg Coty Emeraude

It once again smells lovely.  In fact, it smells very  close to the Emeraude of the 1960's(I have a bottle of vintage for comparison).

Warning:  some stores are still carrying the unreformulated one.  I think the one I bought was unwrapped.  Open the box and take a smell.

Kiku, I've seen you mention this before and I've been holding off on buying a new bottle until around Christmastime when the odds of getting new stock are better. I've been encouraged by your report! glad

@Kiku:

I haven't seen this in any store since the 80's. Smelled gorgeous then. Would love to try new version, will be looking out for it!

Re: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

@ Sheridan and In Vogue:

The reformulated Emeraude comes in this box but the bottle is different.

The cap on the bottle does not say Emeraude. There is a paper label on the bottle that says Emeraude.

Last Christmas they had a .05 ounce purse spary in a gift box. I'm hoping they have it this year too.

Re: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

My all-time favorite, Indecence, by Givenchy was unavailable for a few years.  Now available online (Macy's.com) but different packaging and definiteely a different formula.  I was crushed.  Can supposedly get original version on EBay if you want to pay a fortune.

Re: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

The ones I tried, and am sure of the reformulation are (and I'm so so soooo sad and angry at the same time, because it is still being sold as the same perfume!)

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.611.jpg Chanel Coco Mademoiselle EDP - weakened ..

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.219.jpg Dior Hypnotic Poison - has a new package, at least it is some change, so that you actually suspect that maybe something else is altered .. weakened, smell is the same. On me, the old one (without the gold ring on the cap) lasted for at least 12 h (on skin), the new one lasts for about 2 hours with practically no aura.

Re: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.1009.jpg Paloma Picasso Paloma Picasso

I used to love this, I still have a mini of th eoriginal. I tested it a few months back and it was vile, at least on me, I wasn't sure if it was me or "her" but after reading a bit I know it was "her". And its not that I am a bit dissapointed because it smells weaker or a bit different, its gone from LOVE to "really can't stand it".

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.213.jpg Dior Miss Dior Cherie

Again, I loved it in a girls at a party (she even sprayed me when I complimented her perfume, hadn't seen her before) and then when I get to buy it, thank god I tested it first, because it just wasn't the same. Not as different as Paloma Picasso, I still liked Miss Dior Cherie, but it just wasn't the same to the one I fell in love with and thought, I might aswell buy a different one altogether.

Why do you say this? Also what did it smell like before.  I bought a bottle this past summer and Wow it is potent and smells great too!

Nothing smells better then a freshly bathed Sheltie!

Re: Which fragrances have been reformulated?

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.7399.jpg Yves Saint Laurent Opium is absolutely not the same.

I'm not perfect, i'm original.
