Topic: what smells "french"

I mean what kind of fragrances french woman mostly wear??? i like them, their elegance and that" i don't care about my image" that they have but most of the time they are beautiful and très chic..

My french friend wore   http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.244.jpg Eden Cacharel most of the time..

These remind me of paris, though I don't know if this is actually what they wear a lot.

It's been said that http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.608.jpg Chanel Chanel N°5 and http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.456.jpg Lolita Lempicka Lolita Lempicka are very popular choices among French women.

We had a French assistante at school who smelt of this and Gitanes cigarettes. It was the epitome of sexiness and sophistication to me at 17.

Re: what smells "french"

I think of Chanel when I think of French women.  Interesting that Lolita Lempicka is so popular over there.  Over here I never smell it on anyone and whenever I have mentioned LL perfumes to non perfumistas (eg every single person I know in real life and a fair few shop assistants) they say, who?

Re: what smells "french"

In the opinion of the well-known writer, each country has its own smell. England smells of smoke and lavender. America - gas and burning rubber, Germany - cigars and beer, Spain - garlic and roses. And France smells the perfume.

I would love to try whatever from Fragonard, and even buy, get it preferably from France itself. Anyway, something tells me that the very French scents are:

WOW. This is interesting because I own EDT versions of Flower, Parisienne and J'adore. I guess I'm more representative of my native country than I thought.

I can also smell Lolita and Angel everywhere when I'm in France, especially when I went to High School.

One of my (French) best friends uses Nina Ricci as her current signature, and Chanel N5 has been a staple in my family for years; I'm the only one who doesn't like it. So yes, this list is very representative of my experience of France.

I think it's important to see the difference between what's "sold" as being French, and what actual French people prefer. I'm currently an undergraduate student in Chicago, and the people on campus who organize trips to Paris keep telling the American students that they shouldn't bring jeans.  51 How stupid is that! No matter how often they visit Paris, they still see it through an obsolete lens!

Re: what smells "french"

I've noticed the French women on here, seem to like a lot of my favorites or at least stuff that I would wear...They also write amazing reviews for perfumes I have never seen before...

this site rocks!

In my little brain, French women wear either classic chypres or sensual orientals...They reek of sophistication, elegance and natural beauty!

like these...

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.609.jpg Chanel Coco

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.9908.jpg Yves Rocher Chevrefeuille    ( I didn't even know about this house until I joined this site!)  How naive is that?

Re: what smells "french"

There are now 3 threads up & running with basically the same question , posed in various ways on 3 countries (Italy, France, Russia) and having 2 entirely different answers.

What French/Italian/Russian women actually WEAR isn't all that much different from what American women wear unless it's a brand you can't get locally. Which is why Russian women USED to wear the local stuff before they could get their hands on the Western perfumes.

What makes you THINK of a country is an entirely different and to me a 10000 times more interesting question.

Name the scents of things that make you think back immediately of France/Italy/Russia/Turkey (or Paris/Rome, Moscow, Istanbul) etc. and NOW we're talking.

Outside niche fragrances, women start wearing the same stuff with some variations.Boooooring  wink

But maybe I'm wired differently.. nonetheless it's still interesting to see the lists and compare differences.

PS: I'd love to have someone tell ME what scent reminds them of Amsterdam (outside marihuana of course wink )

Re: what smells "french"

My answer will not based on what French women wear. It based on what smells "French" to me or the perfumes come to my mind when I think about French women:
