Yes, I like the incense in it.  After I compared it with CARON Parfum Sacre, the latter seems dry and cold, like a tall empty church with incense having been dispensed.

The Eau D'Epice is much friendlier and has a softness along with the cool aloofness.  It is a similar scent to some of the aroma of L'Air du desert marocain in certain levels.

Probably the Tauerade comes through on all his perfumes.

Orange Star also has some of what Eau D'Epice has.

I am putting together notes and ideas for the next Tauer Discovery Set, and keep changing.

Une Rose Chypree is absolute lovely, but does not last that long as others from his line.  A unique softness is with this subtle rose perfume.

Une Rose Vermeille hits your nose with a thick jam feeling, like marmalade or baklava, then clings and dries down in rose harmony.

Talking about numbers !! Without getting into fights and hassles, there are a lot of offers out there in the open market, and the savvy internet shopper can avail herself of those offers.

My best sources - value for your buck - are, in this order:

Tauer Perfumes Discovery Set

The Perfumed Court

The Perfume Shoppe

Re: Tauer Discovery set

Too bad he doesn't sell Miriam samples .. just saved myself the hassle of having to choose and ordered 2x5 samples, so there will be 15 total. That seems to be 15 out of 16. The only one I left out was Pentachords Verdant.

Apart from the samples being be reasonably priced (too bad they are spray vials.. must be the only person on this forum preferring the non-spray vials for dabbing or when it's weak simply letting it dribble down the arm!!!!)  it's so nice to see them orderly stacked in a little tin box. Almost as if you have a miniature.
Also.. isn't it awesome to own 15 difference fragrances for the price of 1 bottle of an ordinary upscale fragrance... (happen to adore Alien since trying it in a store yesterday!)

Re: Tauer Discovery set

I just recently ordered a 5 ML decant of MIRIAM at The Perfumed Court, before all hell broke loose.  It was delivered promptly and nicely wrapped, as usual.

5 ML is plenty to test out a rather expensive fragrance.

A soft and gentle, retro, feminine scent.  When that goes, I will order another one from The Perfumed Court.

Re: Tauer Discovery set

It's still there! http://theperfumedcourt.com/Products/Ta … IRIAM.aspx

Am curious now what has disappeared from TPC and what re-appeared at the StC site. Still bummed about the split.

For now I won't order there yet.. after Tauer the next stop will be Galimard for their elève set of notes and some of their samples.

What a lovely scent.  I am thinking about full bottle of this one, but then there is MIRIAM ...

One of the two ... there is always Birthday or Christmas.

Meanwhile, my favorites are, in this order:  MIRIAM, Une Rose Chypre, Orange Star, L'air du desert marocain, Eau d'Epices.

Am curious about Le Maroc Pour Elle.

Right now, the Master is on vacation, see his blog.

Re: Tauer Discovery set

Finally the long awaited package arrived 3 weeks in total. Happy to say it was well worth the wait. Andy's perfumes are intense & beautifully layered.

The first whiff of these scents tell you a story & obviously the use of high quality ingredients speak for itself.

Thus far my favourites are in the following order: Orange star, Zeta, Vetiver Dance & L'air Du Desert Marocain.

I want to sample these beauties a little longer before moving onto & trying

Why duck? You're entitled to your own opinion!

And FWIW, I've not yet embraced Tauer's perfumes either but it's great to be able to explore his fragrances at a reasonable price.

Yes, exactly! I like to see the different opinions on these perfumes! For example, I couldn't stand Zeta! And you quite like it! It's good we all have different tastes and opinions! His Desert Marocain seems to be his most popular, but I still like no.12 the best). Please tell us, what it is similar to, of your fragrances! That is why, I have been saying all along (and Udaria)., not to buy these perfumes blind, better to invest in the sample set. You can always swap the samples, or gift them, as I'm sure there are a few people who would love to try them! Thanks for your feed back, love hearing varied opinions!  18

Why, Wichapi, "ducking and covering" ... it is the purpose of this open Forum to let each other know what we experience in the perfume hunt.

So that everybody can see ... good or bad.

We ARE the customer and as such we are d i s c e r n i n g .

The people who write advertising copy for the manufacturers ADVERTISE whereas we are discussing our experiences after we bought. Our role is not to advertise ... that is why I often add a disclaimer - when I praise something - that I am not affiliated.

As far as

ZETA

I tried, last time yesterday, several times to like it. Just cannot like it, with the "Linden theme". Those other ones you mentioned, I did not order them, they did not speak to me. What I did order, 3 of the 5 I liked.

VETIVER DANCE

I tried a few times, but don't like it as much as other Vetivers.

Beware of LONE STAR MEMORIES for a woman. This one has a leather note that some guys love, and other guys disparage.

INCENSE ROSE is well liked among the women, and even among the men, according to long discussions over at BN.

L'AIR DU DESERT MAROCAIN seems to be the bestseller, and has universal appeal.

Personally, I begin to like ORANGE STAR the most, a classy orange fragrance.

So, it takes all kinds of perfumes to make all kinds of people happy.

********

The Discovery Set is what the name implies, "discover" and then see whether you wish to buy.

Thanks for letting us know your experience. It could be that the "Tauerade" does not harmonize with your particular skin. Learn from it.

Re: Tauer Discovery set

My 2nd and 3rd one arrived today with 01/04/08/12/zeta for the 2nd set which I'd ligned up to be the one I wanted most after 02/03/06/10/11 .

3rd set was for everything else : V (05)/07/09/Penta Auburn/Penta White

As much as I'd love to, I won't test them yet.. too bad I can't just open the spray vial and smell. Alas no.. tried and it's not a screw on top.

Will probably try them all on consecutive days in the order he made them.. or vice versa?

To Udaria: Lonestar Memories was the 2nd one I tried.. nice one.. for men. Too bad DH doesn't want to wear any perfume as I'd like smelling it on him. Maybe I'll gift the overly masculin scents to my (gay) hair dresser when I've gone through another 2 times.

Re: Tauer Discovery set

@ Espi - don't destroy the spraying mechanism, just use as intended, and spray, you can spray a small amount on a spot of your arm and distribute by rubbing it in, if you so wish.

The new vials have to be pushed a few times to fully activate the spray.  Push hard.  After that, they work.  Unlike the ones from Sephora which give me grief.

I said Zeta was "tolerable", but I'm with Udaria on the linden aspects.

And btw, "ducking and covering" was just a jest. Some forumites know that by now, I hope?  wink

Re disclaimers, I listed all of mine in my profile when I first began posting to the forum last December (?).  I've been a member a bit longer than that though, and lurked quite a while after viewing the discussions here and on that "other perfume forum".  This one seemed far more friendly and open.

Re: Tauer Discovery set

What surprise today.. am wearing the samples in chronological order now, and am at http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.4576.jpg  Tauer Perfumes 04 Reverie au Jardin

Contrary to what seems like an outspoken majority of dislikes , this is the first one for me that I find easy to wear.. the others were very creative and interesting, but not easy to wear. Phew!

PS: turns out lavender is disliked by many.. I enjoy it quite a bit. Strangely not so much (anymore) in fabric softeners.

Re: Tauer Discovery set

Hi Espi, have you tested Zeta yet? I would love to hear what you think of that one! (Sorry to say, I disliked it) you can see my review). I tested no. 04 the other day, and liked it, but still love no.12 the most! They sure are different from any fragrances I have ever tried!

Re: Tauer Discovery set

Be patient my dear... going chronologically now so http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.11910.jpg Tauer Perfumes Zeta is at the very end of the list since it's the newest I got.
http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.6410.jpg Tauer Perfumes 08 Une Rose Chypree  is also still 4 days ahead. Scheduled for May 6 and May 13

I do think there's truth in what I read on Basenotes.. these fragrances are probably more suited for 'advanced' perfumistas. I did already enjoy the http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.4575.jpg Tauer Perfumes 03 Lonestar Memories  better the 2nd time I tried and it made me feel yearn for 'storytelling/singing songs around the campfire'..even found a thread where someone contributed who had made up the name.

But they aren't easy fragrances to wear.. that's why I was almost relieved this one http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.4576.jpg Tauer Perfumes 04 Reverie au Jardin  was a lot easier to wear. And very interesting too.

Not one I'd have bought as an innocent newbie!

"The result was not a diet so much as an invasion—the infiltration of perfume into nearly every aspect of my life touched by food."

Re: Tauer Discovery set

Dear Espi! I know what you mean...they are fragrances you really have to think about, and test, and try again. I just want to say, I was almost shy to wear these samples in public, as they are so different, and you have to feel comfortable when you wear them. I felt very bold,(God, that sounds so silly) but, that was my feeling..) When I decided to wear no.12,after wearing the other samples, I was waiting to hear some reaction. Funnily enough, the first reaction, and compliment, was from my son. He was very interested and surprised, in this fragrance. So, just be comfortable with your choice...I don't really think I can rave about all of them, because, after all, we all have different perceptions of each fragrance!

Never be afraid to show your love, Love makes the world go round!

Re: Tauer Discovery set

Feeling bold isn't silly but something I read sometimes about.. like in 'what should a business woman wear?' Actually would rather see those Q than the eternal 'what is sexy?'.

For me this is a journey. Especially so now I have no time or money to travel as much as I used to, sampling new , strange and interesting fragrances can replace this.. plus the other aspect of course of not grasping for food when bored.. just try out another (new) fragrance. It is more expensive than fast food though wink
Today it's 'back in church' or at least that's what incense means to me.. will put on http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.2996.jpg Tauer Perfumes 05 Incense Extreme

Yep... just put it on, back in Catholic church alright. glad

Re: Tauer Discovery set

On an (un)related note.. yesterday was the 2nd time someone suggested me to blog about this fragrance discovery journey and both times I said "what, ME a total noob?" I'm writing elsewhere but that's 'no strings attached' .

The second person telling me is an avid blogger on a different topic and he said it might be interesting nonetheless as it would enable people to follow along with someone who starts out as a noob and then gets to become more knowledgeable. Meh.. there's like 1 million blogs nowadays, isn't it?
