Topic: barcode = date of production?

I want to buy a perfume through the internet, from something like Polish e-bay.

I asked the seller if he knew when the bottle was produced.

He answered that the date of production is on the bar code!

IS IT TRUE ?!

Re: barcode = date of production?

My husband sells the printers that prints the barcodes and the standard barcode- called UPC or EAN 13- does NOT contain the manufacture or expiry date of the product!!! Sometimes, manufacturers print a Datamatrix code on the packs - it looks like  small and square crossword puzzle- for traceability, which CAN include the date of manufacturing and expiry date! If you have an iPhone, you can download an application on it, that reads this codes!!! Good luck winkhttp://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/tummenupp.gifhttp://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/tummenupp.gif

Re: barcode = date of production?

Yes, maybe there is date of production in bar code, but, hey! Can we read barcodes without some freaky stuff? Erm, that would be a problem for me.
Every company has that code for product that we often check it to be similar with same code on box. There is manufacturing date. Only it's also tricky to read, but on some forums there are keys to that, I will try search.. what brand you need?

I mean this one :

you can't read the date of production from this one, can you?
The seller meant this one.

I don't know what's the name for the code that is on the box and the same one is on the bottle.
But I think you CAN read the date of production from it.

But how?

Someone wrote a post with a link, but now it's deleted http://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/sad.png

THE BRAND I NEED IS GIORGIO ARMANI.

Trvevil, if you find out how to read these, please post a link or explanation glad Thanks in advance!

Re: barcode = date of production?

I posted the link , because I thought that your question was about BATCH-code - the one, which is on the box and on the bottle, and which is usually a combination of the letters and digits.

Here is the link to the topic (BATCH-code): http://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=2422

Re: barcode = date of production?

Thanks a lot!

But if the batch-code has only digits and no letters? Is it ok?

Re: barcode = date of production?

I was searching the batch-code information for my "vintage" Dior perfume. So, some brands do have the batch-code consisting only of digits (Chanel, for example). I didn't find information for Armani, but, as a rule, the first digit of the code corresponds to the year of production.

Thanks again!

Re: barcode = date of production?

I couldn't find too. I understood you meant batch codes.

Re: barcode = date of production?

Sorry, Vertigo, but I think it's a genral referrence to identify that specific product. For example, I put on Google search my Joop Homme's code, and it led me to many stores showing Joop Homme... So I think and it's a general code for the product, it's not like individual identification...  Just try:

Re: barcode = date of production?

sorry vin, I don't get what you mean :(
could you please explain in other words?

Re: barcode = date of production?

How to get the Ref code from Hermes perfumes?

Re: barcode = date of production?

I bought Pure white linen pink coral from Sephora and guess what: it's written the expiration date on it, sept 2012...wow...first time I ever bought a perfume and it has the exp date on it...http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/va.png

Re: barcode = date of production?

Some other perfume houses also indicate the expiry date, since quite long time already - maybe we just don't notice it? I've seen it for the first time on the Frederic Malle perfume bottles, about 1,5 (or maybe even 2) years ago.
