I have this book (Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils by Julia Lawless) and it is very informative. Not an expensive reference to have on hand.

Thanks I will look into it. Another question, does it tell you how to mix for shampoos and bath salts? I sort of want to start making these things.
Also do you every wear essential oils as perfume straight, without a carrier oil ( and which carrier oil do you prefer?)? I was smelling some cinnamon oil and dab a little under my nose and by the time I got to the bathroom to wash it off it was really burning, ha ha . There are three oils I will have to save up for, Rose which seems to be the most expensive along with, sandalwood and chocolate absolute.
Hello, do you want an answer from another person or is your question for 30 Roses?
Ah, 30Roses you are online, you answer then.

+1 on the Lawless book recommended by 30 Roses.
Most essential oils need to be properly diluted before use on the skin. Another inexpensive book, not as comprehensive as the Lawless, but with good instructions for diluting essential oils to make perfume and toiletries, Colleen Dodt's "The Essential Oils Book."

Sorry to be so slow to notice you had a question!
The book does not include recipes for shampoos, bath salts etc.
Yes, you should dilute almost all essential oils (although lavender oil is an exception and there may be others.)
I bought this book back when I was thinking of using EOs to make perfumes. To tell the truth, I have not done a lot of that (and the few things I made were very mediocre!) But the book is beautifully illustrated and informative about the individual oils and their suggested applications.

I ordered the Lawless book and if it doesn't show enough about mixing oils for perfume then I will order this one too!
