Re: Ignore function

We asked for an IGNORE function before ... but this type of software does not permit it.  It would mean a major and costly variation to the existing software.

Does that mean you'd not see all posts from whoever you put on your ignore list, or that you'd not receive PMs from them?

Yes, it means that - regarding the posts of that person.  Basenotes has it, and so has The Perfume Magazine.

You can start that feature and ignore the person, and if/when you change your mind, you can restore that person.

It is a different type of software.

The PM system is not touched by that.  If you get a PM of that person, you get it and then you decide to read, or not.

Re: Ignore function

I will suggest this here-

I don't think the ignore button will be effective, because those that should use it, wont use it... It'd be a waste of time! However a BLOCK button would be great! Like reverse of the ignore, instead of clicking to ignore their post, I can block a specific person so my post or replies are not visible to them. (So pretty much I won't exist to who ever I decide to block)

Mhm, because if I don't exist to a specific person then they have no reason to reference me on the forum. Ignore is a cute idea, but a/the troll would not use this feature... I don't give an eff what they post, I care more about them seeing what I post. (If don't like a specific person, it is none of their business what I say) (they are not relevant in my social bubble) Buh-bye!  lol

Re: Ignore function

I think an IGNORE option is perfectly reasonable. It would enable someone to decide what/who they wish to read or not. An entirely personal decision.

A BLOCK function however is completely unethical since that would mean taking the right of others to read what is being posted on the forums, which should be available for all to see.

If people wish to partake in private matters, there is always PM. That's what it's there for.

Re: Ignore function

I'm with Dolby on this one. If someone is offended, let them choose not to see you. You don't have the right to choose for them.

BTW, what software does Fragrantica use? It doesn't look/behave like anything else I've seen or implemented.

I think the ignore feature will work IF people use it.

That is IF, but again like I said would not be effective for certain people...

Honestly, I don't see the ignore OR block feature to be relevant, if you don't like what someone has to say, then avoid that person, otherwise you are welcome to leave the website.

I can JUST picture people now, soon as they come to a disagreement, "oh hell no she didn't" BLOCK/IGNORE... Everyone would end up having eachother on ignore...

Tim said-

- there's the opportunity for people to start bad-mouthing others behind their back, in full-view of the rest of the forum.

This is why those people would not use the ignore feature, the big headed people think everyone is talking about them. "I will not ignore them so I can be nosy"

I do agree, the block feature would most certainly bring abuse to the function and forum altogether. However, if someone can ignore me, I would prefer it if it was permanent because I don't want to exist to certain people anyways. They are not relevant to me or anything I have to say.

I don't need bullies or people with chips on their shoulder conversing with me, don't need the negativity around me!

I agree with the IF part, IF a person uses it, it will work... Unfortunately those who should use it probably would not there for I like JoshuaRyan & RkrChk's idea of the block feature, but either way I'm sure people will still cause problems on the forums... What can we do we will always have bullies/trolls/trouble makers to deal with here I am guessing. glad
Honestly if administrators do neither I really don't care. If it is costly or too time consuming for admin. to put this feature in place then skip it. If it's an easy upgrade to the website than make one of these features availible to users. glad

Yes, there are so many other things money & time could be spent on, for example I would love a mini shelf, and being able to add a fragrance to my have and want shelf... (adding new fragrances to the database)

This ignore feature has been on the table for a long time, & Zoka has probably not added it because it is Just not important.

How does "Z" see it?

Re: Ignore function

Why is it so important to even have that IGNORE button ?  We now have the Individual Member Topic Section where groups of like mind are gathering and fully understand the originator of the topic and the way with which thoughts are expressed.

Look at this matter positively ... Each member sees the regular platform of discussions and can visit and comment.  As before, topics or members of little or no interest can be skipped.

Then, go over to the special corner where your most favorite - or your most disliked - member is having their own thread.  Make a choice.  Go where you want to go.

@Zoka

Thank you.

I would appreciate an ignore function on the site, REALLY appreciate it.

It's good to see your reply/decision in this thread.

Re: Ignore function

no block function... ignore is only if you do not want to see somebody's writing good but blocking somebody and then writing about him/her gossip that would be not nice.
