Also a fan of L'Heure Bleu (the original, not the current mess). Would I like Black Orchid? I like sandalwood and woody, spicy drydowns. This was recommended by a friend. I'll get a sample from luckyscent or other such site before I plunk down a lot of $ for something I end up hating.

Any recommendations? thanks!

I like it, not love it. I doubt you will wind up hating it, since it's along the lines of the scents you mentioned you like, Amouage, L'Heure Bleue etc. enjoy your sample! I think it's worth a try!

I like spicy and woody perfumes,  but this smells very masculine to me.

If you like woody/spicy fragrances, then you'd like Black Orchid. I personally love it but I can't wear it because woody perfumes are too masculine for me. I think you'd like it if you're blind buying. But I also suggest getting a sample first. I also think you'd like the dark chocolate note in it.

Love it but I only got a small decant of it for occasional use.  I would never attempt  anything close to a full bottle so I'm not going to even try.

It really is a great fragrance but you have to be careful that it doesn't wear you if you know what I mean.

I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. It's a very nice scent, but I don't think it's "me" if that makes sense. I agree with getting a sample first, but I'm sure you will love it.

I do like this scent, its not one of my favourites though, I wore it on a date one night and the lady I was with loved it tummenupp

I adore it.  I think it is not overly masculine since it has a good amount of orchid, ylang-ylang and jasmine but it is definitely deep and dark.  I think it is definitely a try before you buy scent though.  There is a strangeness to it (maybe the truffle note) that is part of its charm and intrigue.

I love it, but I returned it because it's only strong when I first spray it.  After only 15 minutes, I can't smell it unless I hold my wrist directly to my nose.  Not cool for a $100+ perfume.

I found Black Orchid "just too much" (in much the same way I appreciate but cannot wear Fracas and Youth Dew) but I tried and absolutely LOVE

I love Black Orchid.  I've also found that it takes a certain kind of personality/confidence to pull it off.  It's definitely not for everyone, wearing-wise.  However, I always receive compliments and even what might be interpreted as admiration when I wear it.

Love it. It's very dramatic and highly original. But as a blind buy... I'm not so sure. It's potent love -or - hate stuff. Black Orchid is a weird sneaky creation. It shouldn't be sold as a perfume but as a magic potion.   17

If BO can't make anyone feel confident I can't imagine what could.

It starts with a strong grand entrance and a lot of drama. Right on the borderline between rocking your world in the most amazing way and hunting you like the devil himself. But the drydown is fairly soft and mostly vetiver for me... Good luck!

I made the mistake and bought Black Orchid blind and it was like after eight chocolat on my skin. I didnt get the patchouli, or spicyness at all. Please indeed sample first. Luckely i could return it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves, and loves to hate, this scent.

I bought a bottle, but I rarely wear it... Last time I wore it was to a dear friends wedding, I got raucously drunk.



EDIT: I forgot to add, my husband has donned this more than me, imo it smells nice on him. There's something sexy about a man who wears sweet scents.
