Hi girls !!

Hope that everyone is enjoying a nice weekend glad
Well, I'm writing a report about "Fashion over the ers" and I thought it would be nice to talk about the most popular perfumes in 50s,60s,70s,80s &90s .. (And I don't mean released in these decades, I meas: which perfumes best expressed the spirit of each decade )

I thought that:
For the 50's : Chanel no5
For the 60's : Guerlain's Mitsouko
For the 70's : Revlon's Charlie
For the 80's : Yves Saint Laurant Opium
For the 90's : Givenchy Organza

I still don't know how true is that !!:)
So, please if anyone has some idea about that, please let me know glad

Basenotes has info about the release date of scents; try their site to find out when scents were released, and then try to find research that tells you when those scents were really popular.

Also, as to your original hypothesis:

Chanel No. 5 was a huge hit soon after it was launched, so it would not really be seen as a 1950s scent, per se
Charlie was hugely popular in the 1970s
Opium was hugely popular in the early 1980s; so was Dior Poison
YSL Rive Gauche was a popular 1960s scent. So was Tuvache's Oh! de London

Are you sure about Organza for the 1990s? I would have thought Estee Lauder scents were really popular then, like Beautiful, Beyond Paradise . . .

Tonya, I remember Oh de London -- it was my first "grown up" perfume. I received it for Christmas in 1971(!), and I loved it. don´t know any perfume about de 50s...
but about the 60.... madame rochas by rochas
about the 70... timeless by avon... anais anais by chacharel
about the 80... red door by elizabeth arden... creation by ted lapidus...
about the 90... fleur d´interdit....

in the eighties it was poison, giorgio, here in greece chloe very much
