Topic: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

Dear Fragranticans,

I have been trying to find a perfume that smells like Aveda Detoxifying Shampoo. I washed my hair with it before our wedding day and he could not stop smelling my hair. I'm not sure what's in it but there might be cloves or some other herbs or spices. He likes woodsy, smoky scents but I haven't found any that have recreated the intensity he felt for that smell.

Maybe http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.555.jpg  Estée Lauder Youth-Dew, I have never smelled the shampoo you are talking about, but I always felt Youth Dew smelled like a balsam , herbal shampoo

It does have all the notes you are looking for though

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.15522.jpg  Kiehl`s Aromatic Blends: Vanilla & Cedarwood is pretty good. It's actually unisex and has a tobacco-y vanilla aroma to it. http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.10553.jpg  Kate Walsh Boyfriend is cedar and jasmine; it seems men like this one too.

Hey, I just met you and this crazy...I love perfume, so call me cuckoo!

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

Shalimar is smokey and woody! Really smokey at first, but let it settle on your skin and the warmth comes out. The EDT is more smokey than the EDP IMO!

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

Here's a thread discussing this very thing:
http://www.mothering.com/community/t/74 … perts-help

One of the posters claims Aveda products contain essential oils such as: lavender, ylang-ylang, bergamot, rosemary, peppermint, and orange.

The following cologne smells beautifully herbal and balanced. Many of its notes match the above list:

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.1682.jpg  Acqua di Parma Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta

Top notes are bergamot, bitter orange, sweet orange and lemon verbena; middle notes are jasmine, vetiver, ylang-ylang, cedar, cardamom, pink pepper and paprika; base notes are patchouli, oakmoss, white musk and resins.

Good luck tracking down a wonderful substitute scent for Aveda.  smile

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

Aveda has their own perfumes, that smell simular to their shampoos:)

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

I've tried one of their Pure-Fumes on my birthday, but the scents offered were too overpowering just my sniffing the bottle and I couldn't find one that I really liked or smelled similar to what I'm looking for. Though, I do recommend signing up and getting this free offer for your birthday because it is a $25 fragrance for free.

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

I have both of these, very good suggestions. Though they are fantastic to me, they do not evoke that feeling from my husband. To him they are pretty good, but I'm looking for a fragrance that will excite his senses and make him want to smell me. *lol*

I am taking everyone's suggestions and adding them to my test-list, thank you. glad

You seem like a good candidate for natural perfumes! Because Aveda uses essential oils in their products, your husband might be drawn to more natural aromas. One of my favorite natural perfumers is Roxana from Illuminated Perfumes. She has some amazing herbal/woody fragrances such as:

Hey, have you checked out http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.11240.jpg Prada Prada Amber Pour Homme Intense  Smells a lot like Aveda Shampure Shampoo, I honestly can't recall the scent of the detox, but working in the hair field, I'll do my best to check it out.

Cheers!

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

I think I have a shampoo from Aveda that smells like what you are talking about because it smells woody with cinnamon, like you mentioned.  This is the only thing that springs to mind for me ATM as similar but not overpowering in the spice department.  I LOVE this perfume.

You might want to look into the 'D.S. and Durga' fragrance line, as they make many  like that. The newest isn't listed here, it's called "Bowmakers" and is described as "outdoorsy, dark and beautiful - very forest nymph".

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

"Bowmakers" sounds really good, unfortunately D.S. And Durga don't offer samples. :(

Cool, I hope you have fun with your sniff-a-thon.

Keep us posted (if you can) on what scents worked and what didn't.  It's always interesting to see what people gravitate towards when seeking their Holy Grail (HG).  And the scent you are describing, where someone is captivated enough that they sniff the remnants of your Aveda shampoo-bathed hair constantly, is indeed a HG.  stolt

Re: Looking for a Woodsy, Smoky, Herbal Perfume

I definitely will. I've ordered a few suggested samples and we'll see where it goes from there. I have a feeling it will be a long process but a fun venture.
