Topic: Vintage Avon-What's your Favorite and Why?
Avon has been in the perfume biz for a long time. Its current selection of perfumes is nothing like the vintage Avon perfumes of the 1950's, '60's, or '70's. Some people even swear that some of the Avon perfumes from the 1980's were different and far better than the same name ones created today by the company.
What are your favorites from days gone by?
Avon perfume formulations were stronger back then. The ingredients used weren't synthetic and the perfumes had more of an old-time Hollywood feel to them. They smelled like real perfume should. Perhaps it was the ingredients. the packaging was beautiful in the early days and my guess is, if you did a blind-fold test, it might be difficult to differentiate Avon from a higher-end fragrance of today.
The vintages are definitely worth looking for in the regular venues-thrift shops/ebay/etsy, etc. and can had for very low prices.
My favorites? Occur, Persian Wood, Topaze, Sonnet, Bird Of Paradise, Here's My Heart, Unforgettable, Candid, Trailing Arbutus, Moonwind, Imperial Garden, Regence and Charisma. The civet and the aldehydes get me every time! But Persian Wood stands alone as an Oriental. I have never smelled one like it that is as mesmerizing as it is. It is an unbelievable fragrance in my collection of perfumes.
