Topic: Colors for brown eyes

I am relatively new to the world of make up and I am very confused. Apparently there are rules for which colors in eyeshadow and eyeliner people with certain eye colors should wear. I have already found out blue eyed people should never wear blue eyeshadow.

But what about brown eyed people? I have found everything from mauves to shades of brown , to no rules ... Help please.

I agree! Conversely, shades of brown and copper can make blue eyes "pop"!

Re: Colors for brown eyes

Well, I personally LOVE lavenders and purples, and I have very deep brown eyes. Contrary to the so-called rules, I actually think I can wear any colour I wish, I think it just depends on the shades used. And I believe this applies to anybody. In other words, if you wish to wear pink, go for it, it's just about getting the right shade suited for your skintone(cool vs warm). Btw, for reference, I'm definitely a warm tone, as I look best in yellows, reds, & oranges.

One way to tell whether you're a warm or cool is to put a piece of white gold against your skin and a piece of yellow gold against your skin. And if the yellow gold looks better on you, that tells you that you're a warm. But if you look better in the white gold, that tells you that you're a cool.

Re: Colors for brown eyes

burgundy and plum are great for brown eyes

Re: Colors for brown eyes

I have found that the right shades of lavender, lilac, and some purples can make brown eyes look gorgeous. Appears to lighten the eyes as well. Also shades of pink/mauve, and copper

Re: Colors for brown eyes

You can wear any color.  Depends on if you are cool or warm, but even then you can wear anything.

It's funny that they say blue eyes are not supposed to wear blue shadow.  Everytime I wear blue eyeshadow I get tons of compliments and I have blue eyes.

Re: Colors for brown eyes

brown and beige and its combination look good for almost every eye color and every skin tone.

I've never been a fan of blue or red shadows, might for for some people, but it's too risky.

I wear these two colors, and grey, all the time. I've got dark brown eyes and dark brown hair. And yes, I wear white gold  36.

Re: Colors for brown eyes

I like warm purples and the warm-neutral brown-copper-pink range a lot, but I look like a zombie in blues/greys/cool purples. (I have a warm skin tone though)  I think it depends on your particular color of brown eyes and your skin tone also.  I would just wear what looks good to you.

Re: Colors for brown eyes

They say that plum and purples make brown eyes look great.

However I prefer to use pearly browns, warm metallic shades, greys and blacks (matte, shimmery, etc.)

I have dark brown eyes.

Re: Colors for brown eyes

I came from the old school of green being the "best" for brown eyes. But all that did was make my eyes look horribly bloodshot (green picking up the red veins in the eyes, bloodshot or not.) Then I discovered wines & desert tones (mauve, sandstone, pinkish-orange, etc.) I kept the colors monochromatic for the most part; just different shades, hues, and tints of the same color.

I was so surprised when I first tried grays, smoke, and charcoals, as well as a range of purples (more on the blue side than the red/plum side.) These complimented my skin tone and, being still a bit "old school", tended to go with what ever I was wearing... which I consider to be a big factor where eye shadows, lipstick, and any kind of makeup is concerned.

Re: Colors for brown eyes

I have (dark) brown eyes, and I noticed these colors look best with my eyes: soft mauve, prune, dusty pink, all browns from light to dark, bronzes, gold, some shades of blue (dark and medium), everything beige (especially light), dark and medium gray...

In any case, it's not only the eye color that matters, it's also your complexion... My skin is medium-light, warm, with gold undertones and very little to no pink. What is your complexion like?

Depending on the brown tone of your eyes - for example there are many different hazels - navy blue liner and mascara can work with excellent effect

I imagine navy blue would look lovely with lighter blue eyes.

Re: Colors for brown eyes

I have brown eyes and warm coloring.  I wear a lot of pinks, browns, coppers and golds.  Blue liner is pretty, too.  I look crazy when I wear grays or blues, probably because of my warm coloring.  Zombie, lol, that describes it.  I also don't personally like purple on me, but it looks great on others.

Smellsogood, those pictures are GORGEOUS.  I am so copying.
