Do you ever LOVE a perfume for months, then suddenly HATE it? (Page 1 of 2)

It happened only once, with Burberry Weekend.. I first fell in love with it (right after its launch, it must have been at least 13-14 years ago because I was still at high school), then got it as a present from a schoolmate for Christmas and a couple of months later I truly hated it, couldn't absolutely wear it anymore and I still can't understand why.

As for general, I think the change of weather or mood could easily modify our way of perceiving fragrances, drastically too.

I agree with the weather theory!

Can't say I've ever had such a complete change of heart. Sometimes a scent might annoy me, if the weather is warmer or more humid than expected.

Other than that, I've only turned indifferent to perfumes after a while. Initially I might have thought I'd found the "holy grail", but further explorations would make it seem rather bland. This has actually made me a bit wary about smelling new things. I don't want to stop loving current favourites.

Unfortunately Hanae Mori Hanae Mori which I loved so much...I don't anymore. I wore it when I fell violently ill and since then I have not wanted to wear it.

Both weather and a cold can change how a perfume smells on you.  Don't get rid of them...wait til the time of year you liked it before and it will all come back to you.

That sounds bad. There's definitely no point in torturing yourself.

Yes it happens to me too!      It really makes me sad because I fall in love and right back out so quickly with some fragrances!!!  But then sometimes I fall out of love and let the bottle sit for a few months and go back at a later time and fall in love again.  Weather does play a big part too!!!

That happened to me with Avon Haiku. I used to LOVE that stuff. :(  I wore it when I was coming down with something and now I won't even go near it.

That's good advice melitalee,  , I'm always inclined to ditch and move on as the seasons change, and only have a few in my wardrobe, tending to be devoted to one, and use up and finish.  It's funny to notice habits. I think I must fall into the 'looking for a signature scent' type.

Perfume and memory is very strong, Omnia Crystalline I now associate with recent illness,  , and I wonder if you can shift that recollection, even if time passes, say to next year?  I've been careful to do minimal testing straight after the illness, because everything seems so intense.

The only perfume I have even had a major U-turn on is Jimmy Choo.  It changed from total infatuation for a few weeks, to a total sudden grinding halt, out of the blue, like I just can't wear this.  Maybe it was the heat or something at the time.  The irony is it's the only one, that my hubby has ever commented on, ummmm, "quite like that", which is a major response for him, lol.  I think I will see, if time will change my attitude again on this one...

yep. I used to love   Paris Hilton Fairy Dust because the top notes were just lovely and I really didnt notice the dry down, I just kept wearing it and wearing it after a while when my nose wasn't so numb I began to notice the dry down >__< ick! it smelt way way to flowery for my liking and didnt work with my chemistry at all and I noticed people began to walk away from me which sucked more because I enjoy talking and meeting new people but wearing this didnt help! I got so sick of it after a few months so I gave it too my younger sister! hopefully she'll enjoy it more then I did, another would be this one!   Erox Inner Realm ick! ick ick! >_< I had no idea who strong and heavy this one is! I was always wearing it to work because of a stupid reason(yeah at the time I was being pathetic trying to get a guy to like me more but Im glad I grew out of that dumb phase) it did the total opposite! it attracted creepy old men old enough to be my father but never the one I had my eyes on! I couldn't blame him, I over sprayed this and smelt way to over powering because my nose couldn't tell! I liked this scent at first but do to all the memories I just cant wear it anymore, I feel so embarrassed that people may have talked or thought about how they can smell me a mile way @__@
