Topic: Help me find a perfume - a gift for my mother's 50th birthday

So, here are the facts:

the most important one: MY MOTHER IS A NURSE!

Today, she surprised me with a fact that she likes orientals. I always thought she was more of floral kind of a person.

Other facts, she's gonna wear her perfume mostly to work (I don't see her leaning over patients smelling of Shalimar.. although she loves it.. but.. a bit inappropriate, I think). She is tall, blonde and of strong consitution. She is a nice, caring, soft person, but obviously likes bold scents, although I'm not sure that very "bold" scents would fit her.

I was thinking about buying her something like Samsara, which she also liked (when I handed her a blot, spritzed with it, so it doesn't really count..) but this one might be also too strong for her line of work..

Ideas, please?

Re: Help me find a perfume - a gift for my mother's 50th birthday

what about a lighter oriental that might be more suited to her work - I think there were lots of suggestions of ones suitable for summer (and therefore lighter) in this thread - http://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=32224

also:

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.14309.jpg Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Capri - this is a lighter, amber-y oriental

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.14178.jpg Guerlain Guerlain Shalimar Initial L'Eau - maybe this would be better in the hospital, lighter, fresher

I say!  It's Pimms o'clock.

As you've mentioned she liked Samsara, the first thing that came into my mind was http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.2938.jpg  Estée Lauder Sensuous, a nice, warm scent with honey and sandalwood.

Happy birthday to your mother 29!

My mother likes orientals too, and these are her choices:

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.135.jpg  Boucheron Trouble

specially the last one smells very warm and cuddly on her  glad

Re: Help me find a perfume - a gift for my mother's 50th birthday

Samsara is wonderful but it is definitely not a perfume for a nurse, even one spray would be too much.

I think if your budget allow it, the best would be to get her a 30ml bottle of Samsara EDT so she can wear it at night and for special occasions.

You could also get her a small amount of a more work appropriate scent.

Here are a few beautiful ones that will not overwhelm:

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.669.jpg Lacoste Lacoste Pour Femme

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.242.jpg Cacharel Noa

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.9583.jpg Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles *pricier one

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.4941.jpg Bvlgari Omnia Green Jade

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.145.jpg Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Blanc

I am not picky, just discerning.

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.2669.jpg Hermes Hermessence Ambre Narguile (close to skin)

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.310.jpg Cartier Le Baiser Du Dragon if EDT and available, could work

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.151.jpg Bvlgari Omnia low projection, warm, yet a bit "spicy"-like

SEnsuous by E.Lauder is probably a better advice; for me is too "woody", don't get much honey or warm feeling; yet will remain with low projection, and is really beautiful as well!

Very Welcome! ... and good luck!

Re: Help me find a perfume - a gift for my mother's 50th birthday

Yikes! I always get nervous when I hear the words "healthcare professional" and "perfume" in the same sentence. 43
That being said, because I'm also in the healthcare profession field, I have read many reviews (here as well as other websites) and a common brand comes up in many reviews by healthcare professionals, Philosophy. The two I find mentioned most often are Philosophy's Amazing Grace & Pure Grace, but I get the impression that anything by Philosophy could be suitable for a healthcare professional.
Unfortunately, the clinic I have worked in has a "zero tolerance policy" as far as any of it's employees wearing any type of fragrance at all. sad
I wish you the best of luck in your search, please let us know what you decide to get her, and wish your mom a happy 50th birthday from us here! 32

Re: Help me find a perfume - a gift for my mother's 50th birthday

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.9583.jpg Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles  A feminine, woodsy fragarance without floral notes. I love orientals, too, but they tend to be a bit too sexy for the office. Eau des Merveilles is professional, yet distinctive, as orientals tend to be.

Also,

A less feminine, but spicey (yet inoffensive) fragrance is http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.1681.jpg  Acqua di Parma's Colonia.

Thank you all for your kindness  glad

Well, yes, it is important to me to buy a REALLY gorgeous fragrance, since she's gonna celebrate her being on this world for half a century (YES! it is young :thumbup  glad , and she used to have lots of cheap floral perfumes (I think the problem was, she never gave much attention to what is she buying), so I was really pleased when I found out that she does like more sophisticated fragrances.

But yes, working in a hospital is a really big factor in choosing the perfume (luckily, the place she works at doesn't have any restrictions, but still, that doesn't mean she can wear just anything)

Well, thank you again for all your advice, I am probably gonna choose one of these:
http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.9583.jpg  Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles
really expensive, but well, I think it's proper to give a bit more for my mum
http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.14309.jpg  Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Capri
I have never smelled this one before, but it sounds like it should be gorgeous
http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.6341.jpg  Guerlain Idylle
I have been thinking about this one before, I love it myself, and I think it would fit my mother marvelously

what a lovely daughter you are - I'm sure she would love any of those choices xxx I would & I'm in my mid 40s and a little bit similar to your mum.

Re: Help me find a perfume - a gift for my mother's 50th birthday

Samsara is a masterpiece, but it is too strong for work...

So, try

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.1981.jpg Yves Rocher Voile d'Ambre

because it is a great oriental, but it's never too strong!

And welcome to Fragrantica! glad

Thank you all so so much!
Well, we're going to a "sniff trip" in two days (I don't want to do this as a surprise, I want her to really love the perfume) and I'll let her choose from the ones you suggested

I have added

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.837.jpg  Roberto Cavalli Serpentine
http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.1981.jpg  Yves Rocher Voile d'Ambre

and http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.4654.jpg  Max Mara Kashmina Touch

on the list (and a few more for a backup, if none of these won't work, but I'm almost certain at least one of them should!)
