Re: Age limits for perfumes?
You young ladies have excellent taste. I adore both Allure and Shalimar, and was wearing Shalimar at a young age! It is nice to stand out from the crowd!

I'm genuinely amazed at the amount and quality of all the replies! They are all so sweet and it's just great to read your encouraging messages! And I'm also learning from them. Again, it is much appreciated, and I can't thank you all enough!
@Tenderhearted Aww, thank you so much for your kind words.
Yes, I definitely won't let myself get discouraged anymore!
@Krisa.Kola If you love it, then don't hestitate to wear it! I wasn't sure about it either (hence this topic of course
), but after reading all the responses I changed my mind.
@Ouch! It's amazing how you embrace perfumes like that!
I hadn't even thought of trying male perfumes, but I will from now on!

No age limits or genders apply! If I wanna walk down the road wearing britney spears fantasy with ribbons in my hair and 15 inch heels, who is to tell me that is wrong?
If you love the smell of Chanel Allure? Splash it on babe!
15" heels!! impressive. wish I could do that!
Ouch, if you wear the ribbons and heels, can you please take a picture for us?!

yes, exactly..
you people are really kind, thank you so much
and
@Scentrist, that was written so beautifully..
GDveertje, we shall rock or perfumes soon! At least I know I will, ordering my Shalimar next week.. I will wear it with pleasure, and style
No age limits. Allure smells really good. Why would that be for older women only? I would challenge anyone who tells you that. If you like it, and feel it is something you could wear on a daily basis, go for it.

most of you seem to agree that there are no age limits for wearing perfumes..
but help me with this one:
I am totaly in love with
and I somehow am not sure that would fit me.. I'm 23 years old...
I see it as a "mature lady" perfume..
Whe I was little I always used a dab of my Moms (and Aunties and Grandmas) perfumes--Shalimar, Chanel 5, Oscar...loved them! My brother in law mentioned recently that he sold his Shalimar bottle (it was a gorgeous collectors crystal thing--no perfume just bottle) so my Mom said "remember I used to always buy that for you when you were little?" She did...I got it when I was 14, my own bottle of Shalimar! There is no age limit on perfumes. You should wear what you love and makes you happy.
No, perfume is ageless. Wear what you love!
I don't think there is an age limit on perfumes. I was wearing
Faberge Babe when I was 10 yrs old and thought I was so sophisticated and grown up! I believe it depends on what appeals to you that should be the deciding factor on what you should wear. After all, it is YOUR money and you should spend it on what you want, not what advertisers or others say you should. Heck, I was wearing
Giorgio Beverly Hills Red ,even though it supposedly for "mature women" when I was 23 because I liked the smell at the time, even if it stayed one dimmensional on me.
If you like it and it 'speaks' to you, wear it and enjoy it! Don't listen to what people label it, it is a different experience for each individual.
When I was a teen, I liked a lot of fragrances that were marketed as 'male' but I liked them and wore them anyway... and got a lot of compliments from people who had no idea these scents were supposed to be "for men only!" If the scents works on you, then enjoy it!
I think our taste in perfume develops and matures over the years, as does our taste in food.
I've been wearing and loving Allure since I was about 20 - go for it!
I cannot fathom why a perfume would make you smell "old". Some may have "old lady" memories for some people but as perfume smells different on different people, I just ignore it.
On the subject of Chanel and "old", I think that in the bottle and certainly on me Chanel no.5 smells like it is for older women but on my friend (who is the same age as me, 31) it smells amazing and like it was made for her - certainly not old in the slightest!
no age and no sex limits!
no age and no sex limits!
Would be a sad world if....
candy was permitted for children between ages 5 and 9
coffee was only allowed for adults ages 25+
soft cotton only for babies 11 months and under
our noses dropped off at smelling something it "ought not to smell"
These are strange ideas but unimaginable.
I love how carefree our noses are. Don't let anyone tell you any different
i love chanel allure and im 24 i also love spicebomb and thats for men i wear what perfume i like i dont take notice of people who say a certain perfume is too young or too old for me as long as i like it thats all that matters. also has anyone else noticed that people think if a perfume is dark in colour its automatically for an older woman? it always makes me laugh when i hear people say that
Yes, some perfumes are for the 'more mature' - those people who are mature enough to think for themselves and make their own decisions.
I'm a college tutor who teaches international students. One day the topic was 'culture and cultural goods' so I took some of my less precious perfumes in for my students to play with. They were refreshingly free from all preconceived notions about what was masculine or feminine, or young versus old. Voile de Jasmine smelled terrific on my favourite hunky 6ft+ tall Nigerian fella, my cute Japanese girl was rocking Terre d'Hermes and all of them wanted a go with Coco and No5.
Don't pigeonhole the perfume please!
Mind you, to be scrupulously honest, I have to work very hard to overcome an unjustified(?) prejudice against any perfume that's coloured pink ... Is that ageist or just an aversion to saccharine?
No age limits! I'm 31 and use only fruit perfumes.
Dolce&Gabbana D&G Light Blue - light blue was originally intended for women in their 40's.
Yves Saint Laurent Opium - Opium was originally intended for women in their 30's.
...wear what you want. We all do!

You stated that perfectly "old lady memories". And, that's all they are...memories. If some "old ladies" started wearing Angel and Prada's Candy...in a week they would be called "old lady" perfumes!! "Youngster's" would say that they reeked of those old lady fruits and nasty caramel coated pralines like grannymay used to make in her kitchen.
The converse is applicable with me. Whenever a reviewer says that a particular perfume is for “younger” people I deliberately test it and if I like it I will buy it in defiance of that perception. The enjoyment of perfume cannot and must not be limited to age groups. I am in my mid forties and find that many of the perceived “young” person’s perfumes are awesome. I have no hesitation wearing such perfumes. The opposite is also applicable. What’s wrong with a 16 year old young lady wearing “Youth Dew” if it smells amazing on her and she is getting compliments?
I mean, no, there are no age limits, but I'll tell you, if I smelled Opium on a 15 year old, I would be very weirded out! lol
You're in your 20's now and I think Allure would be just fine
Ageism is to perfume ... What cheez whiz is to fine cuisine
Ageism is to perfume ... What ignorance is to progress
Ageism is to perfume ... What closemindedness is to happiness
Ageism is to perfume ... What rubber flipflops are to haute couture
Ageism is to perfume ... What intolerance is to civilization
Ageism suuuuuuuucks big, sweaty, greasy hippopotamus balls!
I think there is definitely no age limit. I wore Miss Dior when I was 18, now it is somehow too serious, but then everyone thought it smells wonderful ... Enjoy, each fragrance you'll love will be yours in a special way!
