Re: Men and nail polish

Call me boring, but for me it's a huge fashion faux pas.

The best things in life aren't things.

Re: Men and nail polish

Timdoeswell, excellently stated, and I agree with you 100%.

Re: Men and nail polish

I don't have an issue with it, my partner on the other hand won't ever wear anything outside of clear polish. (I've tried!)  Its really to each his own.

Cosmetics, like perfumes, are quite gender neutral if you look through history.

Re: Men and nail polish

I don't find it particularly attractive but don't mind it, so pretty neutral here. Does have a bit of "edge" to it, gets some attention for sure.

LOL personally can't pull it off, and have no patience to do it even if I wanted  rock

Re: Men and nail polish

I wear black, blue, dark grey. Colors that i can wear with anything I can pick out of the closet any given day. Those kinds of color you can dress up or dress down. Wear it almost everywhere on both toes and fingers. BTW, I am not gay, fem, transgender, cross-dresser or bisexual. I am a 44 y/o hetero male, married twice with 3 children. Men who are considering wearing nail polish, just do it. Its cool, looks nice, and feels great.

Re: Men and nail polish

I have seen men with their toes painted. Normally this is done as a joke

when they are asleep and the color is bright red.

Nail polish or enamel is actually the same substance as car paint.

I'm sure it has found it's way onto men's nails but probably by

accident. Not sure if the world is ready for this to be a trend

but it might be fun , especially the metallic gold, silver, bronze polishes that

are around now might be striking on a masculine hand.

Wil Anderson (Australian comedian - and very easy on the eyes) has black fingernails. I'm not averse - on him I find it strangely attractive. Can't find a photo of him showing the nails to upload  92- google him.

Back in the day, I used to paint my nails black. It looked edgy when I was 19 or so. Now at 44, working in a conservative office, I probably couldn't get away with it. Maybe on my last day before I retire. glad

Things like this makes me glad to be born a woman... I just love nail polish, I change color almost everyday. I wouldn't mind to see a man with nailpolish, as long as its well done, but I doubt I'll see one here. Masculinity for the common italian man is important stuff, I doubt they wear perfume either most of them at least.

I don't know what I would think of a man with long nails though.

I'm rather old school about this:  Clear or nothing.  Men should have well-manicured nails, but color is just not there for me.

I like reading that Italian men still value their own manliness. From what I see in other western countries, many young men have soft girly mannerisms and styles. 83 Sorry to sound like an old stick-in-the-mud, but a mandatory stint in the army would do them a world of good.

Re: Men and nail polish

Like mascara and eyeliner, this is just another grooming issue where we can advocate freedom of choice and declare what people ought[ to accept until we're blue in the face, but if we're being honest, it just comes down to our own gut reaction.

Chances are, if the straight men I came of age with (and my father) wouldn't be caught dead with it, it's not something I will find appealing in a straight man (theoretical potential mate). Call me closed minded, but that's just how I feel. One of the earlier posters said there are few things hotter than a guy in black nail polish. For me, I would substitute "hotter" for "ickier." But I'm an old foggie.  glad

Re: Men and nail polish

It's a non-issue where I live.

It matters not all if the man wears polish on his nails. It certainly doesn't define his character. It makes him no more or less sexy/sexual. It makes him no more or less intelligent.....or considerate....or tender....or worldly....or passionate about me or life in general.

My goodness, indeed.  If you don't mind me asking, where do you live?

Wherever it is, I guarantee you your view doesn't represent the entire population, or even most of it.

I find some of these indignant declarations of open-mindedness a bit disingenuous.

So if nail polish, mascara and eyeliner is fine, then, where do you draw the line?

I'll go out on a limb here by saying the vast majority of straight women would not want to wake up next to this, or watch him standing at the mirror putting his face on.    lol

Re: Men and nail polish

I'm sorry to say, but I have never been a huge fan of nail polish on short nails in general, and since men usually don't sport the "long nail look" (thank goodness)! It just won't work anyway.

Men with long nails are just.. ICK!!  54

I can tolerate nail polish on a woman with short nails, but I still find that it looks best with nicely shaped, "longer" nails. Not that "thick" "slutty" type though, yikes!  yikes

Bottom line: Personally I just don't see the point of men and nail poilsh. It simply doesen't do anything for me when a man is wearing it. Clean and nice looking fingers, sure! But that's where I'll draw the line as for now thank you.

The thing about nail polish (unless it's clear perhaps), is that it doesn't look natural. Sure as a man, if you feel like improving on your appearance by the means of makeup, you could go for a very darkly colored lipstick, and dab in a tiny amount with your fingers just to deepen your natural lip color a little. You can also use a minimal amount of eyebrow pencil/powder to fill in/darken your eyebrows which is great, and actually makes you look more masculine! Blue eye shadow and red nail polish on the other hand, is a different thing!  wink

Just my two cents, hope I'm not offending anyone, as that is not my intention at all!

Hi Candymarie, not disingenuous in the least.  I meant exactly what I said and stand behind all of  it.  I would not have bothered responding in this thread otherwise.  It's rare that I respond in a thread like this, Candymarie. RARE.

Now, as for Boy George, he states that he is homosexual, so waking up in bed with him would indeed not be appealing to me.  Part of what makes me weak with a man is understanding how much he wants me and feeling absolutely helpless in the face of that kind of attraction...need. *shrug* It's highly doubtful I would find that with BoyGeorge or any other homosexual male.  The beauty is they find it with each other.  I'm not sure what this has to do with nail polish, just thought I would give you a straightforward response to your reply and picture post.

As for his makeup application..... I simply do not care.

As someone stated earlier, we do so try hard to keep men in a box.  We've let them out of the fragrance box here on this site, maybe we could extend the same in other areas?

Take care

Re: Men and nail polish

onaona,

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was implying you weren't telling the truth, I didn't mean it that way. Obviously this is all just a matter of personal taste and sensibilities. Great for you and everyone else who finds men in makeup attractive, and great for those men.

My inclusion of Boy George was simply to show a man (any man, straight or gay) with full face makeup, in conjunction with my question, Where do you draw the line? Which you didn't answer. But that's neither here nor there, because it was really just asked rhetorically and simply to make a point.

My thing is (and the reason I participated here) is that I find some people's responses to these "makeup, nail polish, etc. on men" questions to be imcomprehensibly indignant and judgmental, as though they are defending against discrimination based on race or sexual orientation, and shaking a finger at those of us who will risk political incorrectness and say honestly that we like our men manly. To say or imply that we are close-minded or even prejudiced or discriminatory is just silly.

Here's an analogy that might clear it up for you: If a woman suddenly starts sporting a buzz cut, no makeup, a pendleton shirt, 501 jeans and heavy workboots, she should not (and most would not) be surprised if men stop hitting on her. It doesn't mean the men are close-minded or prejudiced, it just means they are attracted to femininity.  And that doesn't really need defending or explaining, does it?

woman with buzz cut = man in makeup

Okay, I' done. http://fimgs.net/smilies/cool.png

Re: Men and nail polish

So far I've only seen men wearing clear nail polish which I honestly find off because its really shiny. but then again I'm a person who keeps her nails simple, short and w/o nail polish so when I see others, especially men, with polish I unconsciously think its too much.

I never did it but the idea is not totally strange. Maybe I can try painting blue pansy flowers on my nails
