I know I'm fairly late to this convo, but I would still like to add my 2 cents. I use a couple of different things in my hair. First off, I also have and get dandruff. Always have and always will, that's just the way I was made I guess (my dad also has bad dandruff).
What I do is, I always wash my hair twice with 2 different types of shampoo. I know, it sounds girly and what not, but my wife has definitely noticed a difference and I don't have any dandruff. My first wash is with an actuall anti-dundruff shampoo (Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue etc..) and I apply a little more than I normally would and then scrub (with finger tips, not nails) my scalp for about 2 min, then I rinse it out. I then use a vitamin-rich shampoo, usually with some type of volumizing properties (I have thin hair) using LESS than normal. See, the first washing got rid of all the oils, dead skin and other things that normally keep a shampoo from reaching its "lathering potential." You will see that the second time around, your shampoo will lather MUCH more fully and so much less is needed. Once I have applied the second shampoo, I let it sit in my hair until I am done with my shower. Rinsing my hair is the last thing I do because those vitamins need time to be absorbed. **I know this all sounds girly, but it works!!**
Now, as far as the things I use to style my hair differ. I use 3 things from 2 different brands. 1) Murray's Superior Hair Dressing Pomade. People usually just reffer to it as "hair grease." It comes in a little orange tin can and works amazingly well, especially in the cooler weather. Only use a little bit and only if you have short hair. It gives a more natural & less dramatic look to your style. It is petroleum based so it tightens/stiffens in the cold. 2) Schwarzkopf - Got 2B Glued: Spiking GLUE (water resistant). This stuff is strong and lasts until you wash it out with shampoo. It is also fairly dramatic making it hard to avoid the "wet/gelled hair" look. A little bit goes a long way with this one too. 3) Schwarzcopf - Got 2B Glued: Blasting Freeze Spray. I use this both - with the glue and by itself. This stuff is also strong but can help give you less of a "wet-hair" or "gelled hair" look. You also don't want to over-apply this because you will get build-up, which only worsens your dandruff problem.
Anyways, these are what I use and do. Hope this helps someone. Any questions, just hit me up. Thanks again.
