Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

Oh Siv,I am so sorry you lost your baby Waffles. I get just as heartbroken when I lose an animal family member,as I do with human loved ones. My heart goes out to you. Your story is so sad.http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/grater.gif

I may be in the minority here (and that is ok) but I love the way dogs smell.http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/hjarta.gif Even when others think they are stinky,I find their scent so endearing, because poor babies cannot help it. I never think they are stinky.

I love reading how much everyone here loves their animal family members. So sweet. My cat baby Gracie smells very sweet and warm. I love her fuzzy warm cuteness. She eats a special diet that our vet recommended, and it is actually perscription kitty food. It is canned chicken food, and kind of pircey, but worth it for Gracie of course (sorry chickens http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/sad.pnghttp://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/grater.gif). The veterinarian told me that kitties cannot be vegan/vegetarian. I asked her because I wanted to feed Gracie a vegan diet, but I would never force it on her, especially since the vet said this would cause Gracie to suffer. In nature, the kitties cannot help it. The vet said they need certain nutrients that veggies AND meat can provide. She said they would die without meat.

I am vegan, and I am very close to my mother- in- law Cathy. She eats free range meat, and she always has a soft natural scent, very lovely. She does not wear perfume. I don't smell any better than her,I just know it. I would not want to ask anyone to compare our scents though.

My former apartment manager Nick was a hippie in the 60's. He said that the ladies told him he smelled sweeter and better when he became macrobiotic ( this word can mean vegetarian for some. For some,it is not vegetarianism,as some macrobiotic people eat fish. Nick was in fact a vegan at that time. They did not really use the word vegan much in the 60's ) . He said he also could smell himself, and he smelled very sweet to his own nose.He said that he could tell he smelled better when he stopped eating meat.

Ok sorry... I have a little more to add Off Topic: I have been reading that some people do healthfully and successfully feed their cats a vegan diet. I fee scared and paranoid though,to change my cat Gracie's diet to vegan, at this stage in her life. I feel it could be unsafe for her,and I won't take the risk. She is 15 years old and she has kidney disease. Sorry to go on and on everybody. This is just something I think about a lot. There is no way I would change her diet, but I feel really terrible for the chickens.

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

I guess it would depend on the Vegetarian's Diet. My Guess is alot of Vegetarians would use lots of herbs and spices to flavour what would otherwise be a very bland diet. Eg. A Large portion of the Population of India are vegetarian for religious reasons and the Indian Diet is renowned for its hot spicy dishes. Many Vegetarian recipe books feature recipes with lots of herbs, spices, onions, garlics and chillies. I think a good dose of herbs, spices, onions, garlics and chillies in anyones diet is bound to have some effect on your Body Chemistry. Put a clove of crushed Garlic in your shoe and soon you will have Garlicy breathe. Herbs, Spices, Garlic and Onion are also said to effect the taste and smell of certain sexual fluids (female lubricant and male sperm) not in a pleasant manner. So if a diet rich in Herbs, Spices, Garlic, Onions and Chillies can have this effect on your bodily fluids or the smell of your breathe what's to say that it doesn't have some influence on the way a certain fragrance may smell on your skin or someone else's. Vegetarian Animals aren't likely to add alot of herbs and spices to their bland diet so they would be different.

I love to smell good

Especially if she´s been sleeping in the sun! I always loved the way our tomcat smelled when he had lazed in the flowerbeds for hours in the summer.

This is just my opinion but I think it´s wrong to make a vegetarian out of an animal that´s a meat eater by nature.

People choose to go vegetarian, vegan or anything and everything inbetween and I think it´s great if you really thought it all through; I don´t think it´s right to make that decision for someone else, whether human or animal.....serve your kitty a veggie dish and if she eats it: fine. But I wouldn´t do that more than once or twice a week.

Our dogs always loved eating carrots or potatoes but I don´t think they´d have been happy without their usual food.

(OT:I always get annoyed by an uncle of mine who is talking about us eating cadaver while munching away on his fish...*rolls eyes*)

OK, getting off my soapbix now. Sorry.

On a different note: I always like smelling our doggies´ fur. Especially when we were on vacation at the ocean or in the colder season when they´ve just come in from the cold. They smell really windswepped and salty(sea) or smokey(autumn and winter air) and cold fur warming up in the house is just a homey scent to me.

I even like them when they´re wet. At least for a few minutes. :o)

Has anyone ever tried smelling their dog recently?  wink

Ahhh our dog usually smells lovely!  I attribute this to the combination of an excellent diet (Blue Buffalo brand), and the myriad of wild grasses and sage she runs through every day.  She comes into the house and brings a fresh breeze smelling of wild grasses, sage, and sunshine in with her!

The exception would be during the rainy season lol....then she just smells like mud and wet dog fur haha.  For that reason (and all the mopping I have to do  butter), I am glad our rainy season only lasts a couple of months!

On-topic, horse smell is one of my favorite smells in the world!  Sweaty horse, clean horse, horse manure, tack-room smell....all of it I adore hjarta  I used to drive past a stables on my way back from work many years ago, always rolled the windows down and savored the scent!

He died of an allergy, his skin peeled off with fur, vet could not save. http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/grater.gif
He smelled like mangey dog. No offence, every sympathy to mangey dogs and when a cat smells like one you know things are terrible!

http://www.fragrantica.com/board/img/smilies/hjarta.gif  Love to Waffles in Heaven may you smell warm and furry again now X

Dogs shouldn't smell too "doggy" by the way, it can mean they have some kind of skin problem (although not necessarily, can just be wet and dirt!)
I prefer the smell of wirey haired dogs. Think just because they smell less! Labradors very very dog smelling.. Not keen!

Oh, I'm so sorry you had to go through that.  It must have been traumatic for the both of you.   It's awful to watch an animal in distress, I know.

I'm not surprised, I like the smell of my small doggy very much!

I smell her often and she smells so mild and 'warm', like a cashmir blouze.

Imagine that civet is also an animalic odor.

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

I love the smell of my cats. I even love their breath! My husband doesn't agree! They are my babies. hjarta

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

I love the smell of a stable on a frosty winter's day.

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

i love the smell of my dogs. Zeus my pitbull is very clean, and has just a very light puppy musk. Voodoo Magick my blue Doberman has his own special brand of skank. good lord. he is a stinky dog, even smells like dog after i bathe him, but he's my boy. so i love his skanky doggie smell. & he loves to smell flowers, & smell my perfumes. so sometimes i use light or natural perfumes on him.. hehe he thinks hes special when he gets perfume put on..

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

This thread is so cute! I too love the smell of my dog's fur when hes been sleeping in the sun. He's a shih-poo I adopted after his elderly owner died and he's just the sweetest and most adorable thing. I felt the same about my last dog, too (RIP http://fimgs.net/smilies/sad.png  ). Neither of them had an oily coat or much of a natural doggy scent, so I guess I was lucky.  Just the scent of warm fur.

My dog smells of my perfume often enough just from cuddling (no, i dont spray him!), a few people have told me he smells good. He's gotten compliments on http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.11775.jpg  Gucci Flora by Gucci Eau Fraiche and http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.12005.jpg  Fresh Sugar Lemon I just need to get him that Louis Vuitton collar and he'll be all set.

I have to add that my favorite animal smell is when my golden retriever would come inside after playing in the snow.  She really did smell like snow and cold, crisp air.

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

Yes! I would say there would be a huge difference between the way a fragrance would smell on a person who is Vegetarian versus a person who is a meat eater.

For Me, fragrances sit lighter, fresher and better on my skin as a Vegetarian.

Other things factor in as well: examples, no smoking, regular exercise,

drinking a lot of water.

stolt +1 for Vegetarians and healthy lifestyle!

I love horses:

Have you noticed how some horses will shy or will take longer to settle down around people who eat meat?  When the handling is correct, I would guess it might be a Prey/predator thing. The smell of dead animal(through sweat)makes them nervous.

The smell of "New" is transporting and tonic of beginnings.

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

What an awesome thread!

I have 5 Chihuahuas, yes 5...Lol! Very Mexican, right? Well, I considered myself a Cat person, but long story short, I was gifted one Chihuahua and then another one and then they reproduced Gremlins style, lol! and I ended up with this gorgeous Chihuahua's pack and now I love them so much!

Everyone of them smells different. I don't like how my male Chihuahua smells, even if I bathe him he always smells just plain stinky...But two of my females smell so good to me! I like how their little paws smell kind of like sweet corn and I love smelling their tummies too, they kind of smell powdery but earthy at the same time...I love my 'lil Chihuahuas...lol..

I miss smelling a kitty, though...

I love to smell my cats too! It's kind of a nutty, warm scent they have naturally.  I also love to smell horses and barns. Rustic scents are very soothing to me.

The true character of a person is easily seen in the way they treat those who can do nothing for them.

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

^^I'm assuming that's your cat?  He's beautiful

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

i love the smell of my labrador.  however, she does in fact have terrible skin allergies, and so she is on a very expensive organic diet.  no corn or wheat, just meat and veggies.  that being said, i think it makes a huge difference, as she smells a warm kind of musky.  Aromatic like herbs almost, but with more of a a slight animalicness to it.  not at all unpleasant or pungent, almost sweetish.  i attribute it to her diet though.  Even if she gets wet it's still not bad.  a bath every couple of months or so to really get the dirt off of her. (she's black so you can never truly tell how dirty she is...)  Ah Daisy Wu, I miss her so.

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

I love the smell of my oil paints...then I love the smell of my dog wearing a tad of Aromatics Elixer!

I've read that some parrots have a pleasant, perfume-like odor. Most birds have oil glands that secrete a substance that they use to preen themselves, so it's possible that your parrot's odor comes from the self-secreted "lotion" that it's applied to its skin and feathers using its beak. Some day I want to smell  one of those perfumed parrots!

Since reading this post and Vetiver's comments, I have paid more attention to my beloved Galah (rose breasted cockatoo), Kylie. You guys are right! Parrots really do have the most sublime smell. Her breath is very nutty and sweet, and the feathers are perfumed too- earthy, powdery and a touch of sweetness. Cuddles are very enjoyable glad

This, and gorgeous looking too!!

Re: .I love the smell of my horse!

Cats who come in after being out on a windy day smell fresh and good.  We had a  long-haired, black  cat who would come in wind-blown, and the other cats loved to come up and press their faces into his fur.  He patiently allowed this.  Another, a Semoli, was too nervous by nature to put up with it.
