Topic: what do you shave with?

Curious to see what percentage uses which. What do you use to shave with?

Every day I die again and again I'm reborn.

Re: what do you shave with?

I consistently used my Edwin Jagger DE 89 L razor for a long time, but recently started using the Schick Hydro 3 and have not looked back.

Re: what do you shave with?

I'm not a man, but I highly recommend Lab Series, total comfort shave cream. I have know two guys who used it, and they swore by it. I tried it myself and it is awesome! It contains a little benzocain, so it numbs your skin a bit and prevents inflamation. Really.

Re: what do you shave with?

@Timdoeswell

I am trying a cheap Double Edge Safety Razor after reading a few articles on Google. It is made by BIC. I first want to see if I can get used to it. If I do, I will buy a decent quality one, perhaps a Merkur 34C or a 23C.

The reasons why I want to use this “old fashioned” way of shaving is as follows:

1. It maintains a connection with the ‘past” or the “good old days”.

2. Saves money in the long run. The blades are universal and dirt cheap.

3. I like the novelty, the idea and the ritual with the badger brush and shaving soap. 4. It is an art that is a challenge to master.

I must be honest, I am finding it difficult to get used to and a little time consuming. However I will persevere.

@Kbro4897 I cannot handle the after feeling of an electric shaver. My skin feels dry and not as smooth as with a disposable razor.

I use the “BIC Easy’ triple blade disposables for my face. These are cheap and good quality for the price. I have recently shaved my head bald. For my head I use the “Headblade” with Schick Ultra plus Double blades.

Re: what do you shave with?

I don't know about the bic, but the weight of the handle makes a huge difference with double edged shaving.  The Merkur 180 is my every day, and the weight is perfect - since there is no pressure applied (a painful lesson to learn the hard way!) the weight will literally 'drag' the blade across your face.

I wanted to mention it since you might get discouraged with a lighter or plastic handle, as you'd have to 'dig in' a bit, which is the formula for nasty slashes.

Re: what do you shave with?

I am not fancy in the shave department....usually whatever generic disposable razor I find for cheap and Dr. Bronners shave gel.

Chypres and florals and woods, oh my!

Re: what do you shave with?

I use a Merkur 34C with Feather blades and a cheap but good Proraso brush. I used to shave with an electric razor (Philips), but it irritated my skin and produced a lot of in-grown hair.

I used different shave gels/foam/cream but I recommend Zirh and Proraso. Many praise Mama Bears' products, but I have never tried it. When it comes to aftershave I like Zirh and Jack Black.

I will never go back to electric or disposable razors, and NEVER Gilette!

Good man - always nice to hear from another wetshaver, and to hear the anti-Gillette refrains! If you've ever been keen on trying Mama Bear's products, I suggest you get in now, last I heard Sue was going to wind up the company and cease making soaps.

Thanx for the head-up. Need to order some of it before it is too late! Have you tried it?

Re: what do you shave with?

I use hair conditioner on my face to soften the hair and make my skin slidy....and use a disposable razor. glad

I CAN'T BRAIN TODAY..I HAVE THE DUMB. I now have a perfume review channel on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/ouch110/videos?view=0

Re: what do you shave with?

Gilette Shaving Gel (better than foam, on me)

Gilette Fusion Pro Glide (upgraded from Mach 3 glad)

Re: what do you shave with?

An Edwin Jagger DE89 "Barley" with a Feather blade. Palmolive Classic shaving cream and an Omega boar brush.

I have some Tabac shaving cream and Monsavon Bol à Raser soap that I use sometimes.

No more Gillette cartridge razor for me, ever. Gillette however does still make excellent double egded razor blades. The Russian Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinums are very good IMO.

My college budy became a convert to the Sweeney Todd razor on graduation day.  He had a professional shave and declared that this was the only way.  He uses Caswell-Massey shaving soaps and a brush.

Caswell-Massey? Has he tried any other soaps?

I had a puck of CM Almond a while ago and it was used as a body soap in the shower, for a shave it was completely ineffective as its lather broke down very quickly.

What scent CM soap does he use?

He's particularly fond of Jockey Club and Verbena.  And he is a soap collector as well.

Re: what do you shave with?

My latest favourite shaving soap is the Tabac puck in the white shaving mug - awesome stuff.  I am now exclusively a "Wet shaver" having acquired three decent DE razors since my last post here.  For my head I still use the "HeadBlade" which is an excellent item for bald men.

Re: what do you shave with?

I've used soaps and creams for years, but recently started sampling shave oils. I've tried a good amount including homemade recipes, but find that Village Barber's Shave oil is my favorite. I use it with my EJ DE89, Schick Hydro 3 and even my Schick Injector with nice results.

Re: what do you shave with?

i use a calvin clien shaver with mach 3 attachment and a calvin klien boar bristle brush and i use my cleanser as shave cream works like a champ wink

Re: what do you shave with?

I'm still loving my shave oil and Hydro 3. No aftershave, balm, splash or lotions are needed after shaving with oils. My skin looks great, razor lasts longer, no chemicals or other junk on my skin, quick and efficient. Minimalism at its best and the price is right.

Re: what do you shave with?

Most days I only have 30 seconds to get out the door and the best job for that is a Remington Rotary shaver. When I have the time, nothing beats a new Gillette MACH3 with Mkmen Shave Foam (Mary Kay).

Re: what do you shave with?

I went old school this June and switched to a double edge razor. I use a Merkur 38C and a Muhle R41

Re: what do you shave with?

I use a braun to keep trimmed to 3mm and a Gillette Mach3 to keep the edges neat.  In summer I have a professional clean shave with s straight razor once a week and, if required, keep the edges neat with a Gillette Mach3.

Re: what do you shave with?

Edwin Jagger badger brush, an antique shaving mug with William's mug soap and a Gillette Adjustable Butterfly Razor, in like new shape, with Gillette or Wilkinson double edge blades. I've been shaving like this for years. I also have Mercur and Parker double edge razors but they can't compete with that old Gillette.

I finish off with witch hazel then fragrance free Lubriderm Body, Face,& Post Shave Lotion. I then apply whatever scent strikes my fancy for that particular day or occasion.
