Topic: Pinterest.com - has anyone joined?

Hi guys,

I recently joined pinterest.com.  It's a social networking site that allows members to 'pin' images, videos and other objects to their pinboard.  So you can keep track of all the beautiful things (ie. 'eye candy') in your life, and follow the boards of people who pin stuff you like.

So...I am now 'following' quite a few people who collect fragrance (both the scents and bottles), which is fun and - needless to say - quite addictive.  wink

And I thought tonight that pinterest would be the perfect forum for people to post photos of their perfume collections.

What do you think?  Has anyone tried this?  79

Re: Pinterest.com - has anyone joined?

I'm a member of Pinterest, but I haven't posted any pics of my collection. It really can be addictive (like this site), but I haven't been on there much lately.

I have several boards on pinterest and one of them is dedicated to perfume!

Re: Pinterest.com - has anyone joined?

I have been on Pinterest for a few months--it IS addictive and perfect for a time-wasting visual person like myself. Oddly, I don't pin much about perfumes(a few are up on a board about my personal style, though)--I focus more on all the other things I am interested in/moved by.

And, I just started following Michelle Obama, our First Lady, today! ;-)

Hehehe, excellent Teebird.  I'm curious to see what Michelle would be interested in image-wise.  I'm guessing they would have to be 'politically correct' though, LOL.

Enjoy.  smile

Hi Whit,

Thanks for replying!

If you do post perfume pics on pinterest, feel free to post a link here.  I'm always looking for cool fragrance-related images, and on a site like this I'm sure I'm not alone.

They make great eye candy.   wink

Naomi,

Michelle doesn't have too much up there, yet.

I followed your link and am now "following" you, too. :-) I'm Tina Sabine, BTW.

Re: Pinterest.com - has anyone joined?

I just recently started a board on my perfumes after much inner debate, I did not post pictures of my own bottle but of images found on here to help educate others on the notes/reviews/and to hopefully attract new members here  glad I didn't finish as I got destracted! But I am addicted to recipes and DIY projects, I can entertain myself for hours! You can find my boards here...

Re: Pinterest.com - has anyone joined?

Bebette and Tina, thanks for posting.  You both have some really great pins.

Following you both.

BTW Tina, I really like your Style pins that feature feminine clothes with a boyish edge.  Reminds me of one of my favourite actresses, Audrey Hepburn.  She was one of the most elegantly attired women IMO.

And Bebette, as soon as I saw your Angel La Rose & Angel EDP pics I had to pin them: I feel both are modern perfumery classics.  Fascinated by the Al Hanouf Al-Rehab rose attar too, though I suspect I'll be scrimping and saving to even afford a decant of this one...such a beautiful bottle.

Re: Pinterest.com - has anyone joined?

Sweetheart I got a 3ml oil of http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.1159.jpg Al-Rehab Al Hanouf off ebay for like $4. No extreme saving required!! I'll be sure to follow you as well! Some days I don't find much interesting, others I get lost in ideas! I always seem to have a purpose of being on there, as you can probably tell, for example "Pack N Go" is a ton of ideas I can make for my boyfriend to pack when he travels and "Brasil Apartment" is pretty self explanatory lol! Whenever I have a question about anything DIY or home remedies I check pinterest first as I find pinners are more likely to comment when they DON'T work and not just when they do.

Hehehe...it takes time for the addiction to manifest...I started off slow and now haunt the site daily like a poltergeist. LOL.  tongue

It's fascinating seeing how similar (or different) people's tastes are, and what they value.  Particularly when it comes to perfume, which is the favourite 'thing of beauty' of most people on this site.  I also enjoy browsing people's art, food and style pics - choosing those I want to nab for my boards.

PerhapsPersephone, if you ever get more involved, feel free to post a link to your boards.  Mine's: http://pinterest.com/fluxaeon01/

Have fun!

How long does it take for an "invite"?

It took around 2 days for me to receive mine.  Seemed longer though...I was quite impatient after a friend showed me her lovely boards filled with eye popping pics.

Yeah, it's not instant, unfortunately, but reasonably quick.  You'll be up and pinning before you know it!

Tumblr looks good too but seems more of a blogging tool and I think it's for people a little more self-motivated than me re. writing regular updates.  That's partly what drew me to pinterest, the quick pay-off involved in posting links with (very) brief descriptions.

Let us know if you get online with pinterest, the more the merrier.  tummenupp

YAY I'm officially on it! I followed whoever left their link here.

Excellent!  I'm following you too, and have been trawling through your pins over the last 1/2 hr or so.

BTW, is the book 'The Little Prince' you pinned the same as the story by Oscar Wilde?  I love that, it's really moving, one of my favourites.

I'm confused whether it's The Little Prince or the Oscar Wilde which you have read?

"The Importance of Being Earnest" is a comedic play about a couple of guys who tell white lies & makes fun of Victorian Society (in true Wilde fashion)

The Little Prince makes pokes fun at people too in certain chapters but The Little Prince is much more serious in meaning. The Oscar Wilde story is very light hearted and funny. I love both! The Little Prince is my favorite of the two though.

Sorry for the confusion, I'll try to explain further.

The only "The Little Prince" I know of is a short story written by Oscar Wilde.  It's really sad and beautiful, about a statue who gives away his most precious possessions (essentially, the gold and jewels that make up his body) to help poor people in his city.  He is helped in this by a kind-hearted little bird.

I won't go on to describe the plot, in case you haven't read it, I just saw one of your book pins was for "The Little Prince" and wondered if it was the same short story I loved by Oscar Wilde or a different one.

Hope that made sense!  hmm
