Topic: Natural hair color?

Are there any brands out there that are good, non damaging, non permanent hair colors? Do it at home type? And not henna.....

I'd like to experience a little with my hair but I don't want to damage it.... also I am not sure what color I would like to be....

I guess you can tell I am confused....

thanks for any ideas glad

Re: Natural hair color?

I've been dying my hair forever and usually myself at home. I've probably tried out every brand there is but I recently tried out the mousse type dye without ammonia. This is the kind you apply like shampoo, so it's much easier and mostly drip (mess) free. Usually the do it at home kits have a very VERY strong smell that just stings your nose eyes and lungs, but since that's the ammonia, this one didn't. I heard some pregnant ladies use this type too, so I guess (hope) it really isn't bad for your health. My hair is still quite healthy after using three boxes over 2 months.

The brands I used are L'oreal and Schwarzkopf, the latter I doubt is available in Canada but I'm sure there are counterparts. These types of dyes are popping up everywhere these days. From your avatar I would say you'd look lovely with a warm chocolate chestnut tone. Hope this helps.

Re: Natural hair color?

Thank you, Julia-Caesaris glad

I will check them out... lately I am reading ingredients on everything.....

And you are right, I was thinking to get some kind of color to put over my blond highlights. My natural hair is chestnut -light to medium  brown, kind of ashy.... but I haven't done my highlights since Christmas, so by now I have a lot of brown.... a little darker than the pic in my avatar that was taken last year. .

Re: Natural hair color?

Well, impulsive as I am , I bought Herbatint in 4D Golden Chestnut.  I have it in my hair right now, waiting time to go so I can go wash it away.... I am scared to look in the mirror......

Why do you have to colour your hair ???? Better don't.  Sorry, this is just my absolute opinion for your beautiful hair..

Re: Natural hair color?

74  8 I have a very sensitive scalp and until the past few years have always coloured my hair. Worried about negative reactions to permanent colours I have avoided them and have been au naturel but hated my silver coloured hair although friends and family like it. Not any longer as I have found a wonderful new product called NATUR VITAL. It is a Dutch company and they sell via the internet and I really recommend it. Virtually all natural ingredients and so easy to use. I am now a proud light blond with golden lites. Bliss.

Re: Natural hair color?

Well, good or not , it's done. I will take a pic soon, and maybe update my avatar. Although it was "golden chestnut" the shade I chose , and this is sort of my natural hair color anyways, ( I wanted to get rid of the blond highlights left from last year), it came out a little darker than expected.

Kind of like coffee.

Personally I like it, the hair feels soft and shiny... and supposingly this dye isn't damaging... they say no PPP, no amonia, no peroxide, no sulfates and parabens.... but still it has some chemicals in it, besides the plants.

And since it's semi permanent I expect it to wash out in a couple of months....

If I get used to it and like it, I will do it again. We'll see,

For now, it's new and I enjoy the change.

Re: Natural hair color?

I'm looking forward to the pic!  I was going to suggest Clairol Natural Instincts hair color, but I see I'm too late.  My sis and I have used it for years (I'm assuming it is available in Canada).  It lasts a good long while and covers gray nicely, but I don't know if that is a concern for you.  One word of advice though:  If your hair is still the length it is in your avatar I would buy 2 bottles because 1 is never enough for me.

Yes, do post your pic, Happy! We'd love to see it!  applause

Re: Natural hair color?

Ombre hair is hot right now! darker roots and lighter ends. I don't see a need to color it! But as I'm writing this I read that you did.  Getting your highlights done over would have been a good choice too!  Anytime one goes from blonde to dark is a big adjustment.  Once you go blonde it's hard to go back to a darker shade.   This is from my own experience!

Good Luck!

Re: Natural hair color?

ok, not the best picture but I will take some more soon.... you can see how dark it became. Really to me it doesn't look like golden chestnut.

But it's washing off, I washed my hair and already I can see a tiny bit of gold shining through the dark brown.

We'll see if I keep it or not. But I am tired of my normal light -  medium brown with blond highlights hair, I've had that for years.... even when I didn't  highlight my hair, I would still get blond streaks in summer time, naturally.

I've heard a funny one yesterday.... A friend of mine saw me and said in shock: I cannot believe you did it! It looks so natural! But you are supposed to be a blond!!!!!!  l just laughed.

Somehow my eyes look much greener now. It must be the contrast with the dark hair.

So far, so good. Happy hair here glad

Re: Natural hair color?

Thank you ladies glad

I got used to it now, so I'll stay brunette for a while... I already bought 2 more boxes of this haircolor... I like it that it's made from plants.
