Topic: Les Exclusifs de CHANEL.....for men?

I have read several times that in the les exclusifs de Chanel line there are some of these femninine scents that work well for men. What do you think. Do any of you guys have one or two in your collection. Some of the perfumes are Cuir de Russe, Sycamore, 31 Rue Cambone, Eau de Cologne, just to name four out of the thriteen in the group.

I am hitting the Chanel Boutique this Sunday to sniff around but I would apreciate your imput before I go.

All four of those plus Coromandel and Bois Des Iles are fantastic and totally wearable for a man. 31 Rue Cambon is especially perfect.

Re: Les Exclusifs de CHANEL.....for men?

Tried a lot of them. Bought Sycamore Coromandel Cuir De Russie. Tried Bois De Iles.

Sycamore -Loved it at first but then the dry down started turning me off. On me I am left with a syrupy brown sugar smell. I can't do it. The initial "dry vetiver/woods" blast is awesome but goes in another direction eventually.

Coromandel - Wild fragrance ! This one has many faces. It wasn't until the third time I tried it that I realized it was a gourmand. Think chocolate patchouli with added woods. I currently own a bottle but I must say that I am on the fence about the sweetness. Is it manly or not ? I would much rather wear it at night in a romantic setting. To me this isn't a walk around during the day scent. Maybe I am wrong..still exploring it.

Cuir De Russie - Owned it but wound up giving it away WHY ? Low sillage and poor longevity..an absolute F'ing beauty that broke my heart. Replaced it with Knize 10 and now I am happy.

Bois De Iles- Your nice standard chanel floral mix elegant and classy. It didn't seem to project much or else I probably would have gone for a bottle.

Las Esclusifs is a great line but obviously some are better made than others. If you like these sorts of fragrances you should check out the Dior version "Privee".

Re: Les Exclusifs de CHANEL.....for men?

Hey wow thanks Lovingthealien and ThatMakesScents! Funny that TMS should mention

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.7913.jpg  Knize Knize Ten

I just got a bottle of that yesterday and I am so enamored of it. Brialliant and lasts a long time. Also in my research I discovered that Marlene Dietrich loved it and wore it all the time. Classic leather fragrance and classy for sure.

Re: Les Exclusifs de CHANEL.....for men?

I really like Sycomore. Hilaire was kind enough to give me his sample of this and I think it has a fantastic vetyver note amidst a smoky tobacco cloud. Great longevity and projection too. Lanier, I think you'll like this one.

Re: Les Exclusifs de CHANEL.....for men?

If you love Knize Ten, you'll adore Cuir de Russie. I don't really have longevity or projection issues with it, though it's not the greatest when compared to Knize Ten. Knize Ten is exceptional, though.

Cuir de Russie is like a feminine version of Knize Ten. Not in that it is for women only, but if Knize Ten is a male then Cuir de Russie is a female. Non-angular, all smooth edges, a bit softer and paler, and with beautiful features. It smells a bit like the extended drydown of Knize Ten. I've heard it described as urinous and I don't think that's totally off base, but it's just lovely. One of the best leathers ever(along with Ten!).

Re: Les Exclusifs de CHANEL.....for men?

Chanel market the line as Unisex, one of the reasons they only come in Eau de Toilette I recently found out and I have absolutely no idea why the database on here lists almost all of them as for women(!). One or two of them are reissues of scents once marketed only at women, like No.22 (one of the most masculine of the lot actually) and Gardenia. But frankly all of the line could be worn by men.

Some of the most masculine smelling are

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.4688.jpg  Chanel Les Exclusifs de Chanel Sycomore ,

http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.7130.jpg  Chanel Les Exclusifs de Chanel Eau de Cologne

But genuinely even any I haven't mentioned are unisex smelling and need only a man with plenty of confidence to pull them off perfectly.

Man is perishable, that may be; but let us perish resisting and if nothingness awaits us, don't let us so act that it shall be a just fate.

+1, minus the target (Chanel never targeted the exclusive range as unisex) and number 22 (probably the most feminine ever made by the house; does not mean you cannot handle it, I am a girl and wear some male hitters without even making the guys who actually wear them suspicious, so... can be done). Jersey (easy to understand) and Beige are espectacular on men; the Beige issue is hard to believe when you know the "veil" of the house, a powdery kind of clow, subtle, but notorious... and yet, works! To handle the stronger ones is really easy (leather, vetiver, you know what I mean I guess), but of course, everybody is doing it ourdays, is no secret! You will smell "trendy"-unless the people around you don't know about fragrances; if so, they will be asking (to copy you). Longevity and sillage are superb, don't think "edt", not even for a minute...  smell them all, try on ceramic, paper, skin, go more than once if you feel like you're not sure, and the most important, report your new love to us and enjoy it a lot.

Yep, pretty much. I travelled to a Chanel Boutique with the express intention of trying Cuir de Russie, and found it too powdery and feminine for my liking (now Cuir d'Arabie...that's a masculine leather) I tried a few other from the Exclusifs range, and stumbled along Sycomore. This stuff is fantastic.

Anyone that tells you that it's almost identical to Encre Noire or TdH (also very good vetiver frags) is just keeping you from buying Sycomore so they can hoard it all themselves. It really is worth the pricetag.

Tim, I along with everyone else can count on you to bring your great knowledge of fragrance to bear on any question asked. Thank You !

If, by 'great knowledge' you mean 'one-eyed adoration of Sycomore' then yes, you can count on me  glad

But if you get the chance to visit and spend some time in a Chanel Fragrance Boutique, plant yourself in front of the Les Exclusifs range and enjoy sniffing through them all. There are some real crackers there for both men and women.

i can not wait till Sunday!

No.22 was notorious when it was released in 1922 for being shockingly masculine, as were most of Chanel's early feminine releases. This is the house that first put women in pant suits and men's tailoring. And if you can explain to me what's feminine about Vanilla, Woodiness, Muskiness and Soap (the things this fragrance smells most of) I'll go along with your assessment of its femininity.

The range is marketed as unisex, or at least the SAs in almost every Chanel boutique I've ever been too (which is a lot) have always been under that impression.

I know women like to think that Chanel is all about them (I think it's a sentimental thing I dunno, possibly they're being seduced by a lot of mythology written by people who don't really understand the aesthetic of the House), but it's the house that first introduced androgyny into public consciousness and which took the elements of masculine clothing and style and popularised them for use by women. This applies to their perfumes (especially their classics) as much as anything else.

Hi!

As always, a pleasure to read you. You have always great advices, and we have many tastes in common (may be our impressions about 22 are not one of them; is not about the notes, is about the feeling and how it suits people the reason I understand 22 as more feminine than others, nothing else... yet, the veil of course). Regarding Chanel being all about women, no, I don't think so... but they sure put a lot on "reasuring" that believe. Again, is not labeled unisex, but for sure I believe some people can be telling you so! ps, love iris too.
