Re: Perfumed wrist issue

Left wrist is or was frequently the ONLY place where I spray, because I was wearing a brace and/or kinesiotape on the right wrist. But now that brace is gone, I'm free to apply on both sides. Today with very weak 'sauce' applying 3 times on both sides..

On the right wrist it's GONE withing 30 mins! Left one.. much longer!

Only exception was wearing the kinesio tape.. being fabric, the smell clings there ...

Interesting, very interesting. I'm right handed so assume to be moving arms more on right = more emanation.

For those of us who have this issue, it seems to be the right wrist always, no matter if we're left- or righthanded.   va

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

I don't know if this is just repeated rumor, but I heard that it has something to do with how the blood flows in the body. It flows "fresh" down the left side, and "used" up the right side.

I have no idea about anatomy, but that has always stuck in my head.  35

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

I dont spray my wrists anymore >_< everytime I wanna sniff the fragrance the  smell is already gone, I spray the top part of my hands, the front and back of my neck and where my heart beats since I read in a cosmo mag( I get perfume tips from those dang things lol)

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

Weirddddd!!! I am left handed also but I follow your logic. At the same time, I'd also understand the complete opposite, that your less active wrist should in fact retain scent longer because it is just that, used less. As far as my wrists, neither one retains fragrance any more or any less than the other, and no I don't rub them together. However, on both of my wrists top notes seem to last under a minute, but then can last for ages so I don't really mind...

Interestinggggg!

If this is indeed the case it makes more sense that it's because the heart is on the left side of our body, rather than which hand we write with.

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

MaggieKat- The very same thing happens to me and I was just wondering the same thing the other day.

I did a little experiment the other day. I put my Blue Carnation on the inside of my wrist and then I put it on the outside of my forearm and the outside lasted much longer than the inside. I am wondering if perhaps I generate more heat on the inside of my wrist, which will make a frag disintergrate much quicker.

Hmmmm.

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

Circulation is a big factor.  If you are right-handed, it could be an explanation for the right wrist scent disappearing more quickly.  You might notice this if you are using the computer for long periods your mousing hand and wrist become colder more quickly, or if you play an asymetrical musical instrument, write or draw, you are doing different activities with each hand and this effects the circulation. There are exposed blood vessels all around the thinnest skin covering major joints, and these are what warms the fragrance enough to dissipate it both to the appreciation of your nose and to make the residue evaporate.

If you are going to be wearing the fragrance all day, it is best to distribute it amongst both fast and slow evaporation spots.  Some of the slower ones include between your breasts, behind your ears on the hairline, the nape of your neck and the base of your backbone where the tailbone begins.  Experimenting to find these spots is fun!

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

The reason I like wrists is that for 99% of the time I'm testing fragrances and want to be able to bring up my hand and sniff.

However..I've gone to applying it on the neck and there you can smell it all the time and may also start to spray the outside of the forearm..at least I'd already started out by not spraying the right wrist (knew it was going to rub off fast)

Thanks for bumping this thread kitsunemagic!

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad I'm not the ONLY one this happens to! I thought I was insane! At first I thought it was because I only sprayed my left wrist and would just rub my right...but then I started spraying my right and rubbing my left...SAME thing happened...

what is going on?

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

The left hand is supposed to be closer to the heart which is why wedding rings are worn on the left hand.  Why the left side of your body would absorb more scent must have some physiological reason.

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

I will just jump in here and add that my right wrist eats perfume, too.  I firstnoticed a few weeks ago.

The right side of the body is projective, masculine.... the energy flows out into the Universe.

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

Are you spraying the top of your wrists? They (most likely) have a bit of hair that the fragrance can cling to. Rubbing doesn't smash the bouquet, that is a myth. I used to spray the inside of my wrists, and the scent never lasted. I can smell my perfume for longer now that I spray on top  glad good luck!

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

I can't wear perfume on my wrists either. No matter if I spray it on my left wrist, my right, or both, the scent just won't last in there.

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

My left is always stronger because my watch takes on whatever fragrance I'm wearing that day! (It's steel so a bit odd really but comes clean easy) cannot explain you folks with no bracelets/watches on your left! Mysterious  62

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

This happens to me too, but I always figured it's because I'm right handed, thus use my right hand to do more, such as writing, and using a mouse with a wrist-rest, which would wear the perfume away.

I thought I was the only one with the right wrist problem.

I have been thinking about this , and since when it is only one wrist that is the problem, maybe the fact that the heart and hence the pumping of blood in veins (pulse points) is maybe stronger to the left we smell the perfume and it lasts longer on that side? Probably a silly idea, but that is all that I can think of.

My doctor always check my pulse on the left wrist, because the pulse is stronger on left wrist. But really I can find out my pulse on right easily also as on the left! I read on magazine long time a go to spritz perfume on  pulse points on your body, left wrist, neck.

I think we use right hands more often than left , that's why perfume gone more quickly on the right.

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

I actually always spray my perfume on top of my arm, usually closer to the middle of my forearm. I do this because I find that I frequently wash it off if its too close to the wrist, and also I feel like the smell wafts to me more when its on top of my arms instead of underneath. And also, I find it easier to smell the top of my arm than the bottom of my arm (when its in the middle). I also like to spray my left, then rub my right arm with it, but the smell does seem to disappear faster from my right arm. I don't know if their is more perfume applied to the original spot than the spot that gets rubbed on top of it, but I'll try a small spray on both arms and see what happens. Very interesting.

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

Few possibilities, humour me  superglad

1) for those who are dominant on one side let's say right in this instance, your grip strength will be stronger and there is the possibilty that because of the difference in grip strength--> difference in pressure applied and hence amount of scent pumped out

2) distance at which perfume is applied. i don't think any of us measure the distance at which we hold the spray from our wrists (i don't think we have the time or luxury for such experiments). There is the possibility of difference in distances hence one wrist being more strongly perfumed than the other

3) I agree with the wearing sleeves/brushing on surface/washing off theory as well

4) having studied anatomy I can safely say the "fresh blood down one side and stale blood up one side" is not true.

But this is fun, maybe we should conduct a research project in this, it'll be international  73

Re: Perfumed wrist issue

I've also noticed this, but I attributed it to the fact that I am right-handed, so I spray my perfume on my left wrist and then rub it onto the right.

Recently, I've started spraying it with my left hand onto my right wrist, but it feels awkward so sometimes I don't. I need to check to see if it lasts longer on my right wrist when i actually spray it....

This is a strange phenomenon...

And yes, since you tend to do most of the work with your hand, writing, eating, talking on your cellphone, etc (right hand if you're right-handed), the scent rubs off easily on many surfaces, tables, papers, books, phones, other parts of your body, etc...that's why I've stopped applying scents on my wrists. I prefer to moisturize my hands with the matching lotion of the scent instead.

This theory sounds like a likely explanation. We need somebody left-handed to say whether the scent is fainter on their left wrist.

Funny that but I am left handed and recently noticed after reading this thread that my perfume is definitely a lot fainter on my left wrist than right.. I dont wear a wrist watch and spray on the outside of my wrist.. a squirt on each wrist and then nape of neck.

Meant to say although I am left handed I would use computer mouse with right hand.
