Re: best shave cream

Hey thanks for the response guy. I like Molton Brown hydrator because it is a combination of gel and cream but it is quite pricy... the other I used for some time is Brut and Nivea shaving cream and both are reasonable price and very good.

Lately I find gel cream much more pleasant then regular cream or soap.

Re: best shave cream

The Art of Shaving Lavender shaving cream is the one I currently use, it's creamy, the scent is not overpowering and it helps me with razor burn. I also recommend the ones from Geo F. Trumper's, the one that I have is coconut oil, really nice! they're kind of expensive but they worth every penny.

Re: best shave cream

I'd like to suggest a few here, the last few I had the pleasure to use.

Proraso classic cream / soap - boy, does this stuff feel good.  Especially in the summer, the menthol is so nice and deep it's one of the best ways to start the day.  Pairs well with a good mentholated after shave, such as Floid Blue or Mennen Skin Bracer.

Kiss My Face Cool Mint Shave - one container of this lasted me over five months with daily use!  And at $5, that's tough to beat.  Very thick and a nice lather when used with a bowl and brush.  I used to put a squirt on top of the Proraso to make a superlather, and it was awesome!  Not as menthol-like as Proraso, but a remarkably smooth and easy shave.

RazoRock Fresco shaving cream soap - Holy smokes this stuff smells great!  And with a brush it's one of the best lather going - RazoRock is just a great new company for men toiletries, and their prices are super reasonable - I got a 150ml tub of Fresco for $6!  They also make a line of EDTs and shower soaps.  I expect that practically all of it is of exceptional quality.  This cream has a very clean, mildly floral barbershop scent, absolutely beautiful.  Check it out!

Re: best shave cream

I have been using the shave cream by Shiseido and find it to be excellent for my skin. I have tried many high end shave creams, but found most of them too drying for me. Shiseido would be my higher end choice and Trader Joe's Honey Mango  shave cream would be my budget minded choice.

Re: best shave cream

Williams shaving stick. Without wetting my face first, I just rub the white stick onto the stubble and lather with a shaving brush dipped in hot water, shave, and then hop into the shower. This stuff is well priced and lasts for months. I don’t enjoy the tinned scented shaving creams or gels.

We have a huge chain store here called “Dischem” . They sell a shaving cream in a tub made from Olive oil and Tea tree oil called "Perfect Shave". It’s a hardish, white substance that lathers brilliantly. For variation I use this. I wet the shaving brush in hot water, swirl it in the tub and apply. Simple and superb!

Sometimes I first apply "Prep" cream, a strong menthol white cream that has many other uses but works as an excellent pre shave ointment.

I find this “old fashioned” shaving regime to be the best as I have tried many other techniques which are not as effective.

Re: best shave cream

I have sensitive skin and relatively coarse hair. To shave, I use just conditioner instead of shaving cream. Conditioner works better than any shave cream, foam, or gel I have ever tried. I'll never go back to shaving cream/gel/foam. Plus, it's one less bottle in the shower/bathroom!

The other trick for making shaving a breeze is to keep your skin exfoliated - - particularly with a chemical exfoliator like alpha hydroxy acid (glycolic, lactic, etc.) or beta hydroxy acid (salicylic). It makes shaving easier by reducing skin building up around the hairs (which gets nicked), and I think the exfoliators (especially AHAs) soften the hair.

I'm not affiliated with Paula's Choice products, but I'm a rabid fan. These are some of the things I use from her line. Paula Begoun wrote Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me. She and her staff review thousands of skin care, hair care, and cosmetics.

I use Skin Revealing Lotion (AHA 10%) on my legs and underarms before I shave and on days when I haven't shaved within 24-48 hours.

Paula's Choice Smooth Finish Conditioner - I don't use this all the time, but it's a good fragrance free conditioner.

Finally, I turned my husband onto this to help with razor burn on his neck. I use it too. It is helpful for reducing ingrown hairs. It is called Redness Relief Treatment. It is similar to Tend Skin but way less irritating to your skin.

Re: best shave cream

Neutrogena for men works well for me but also Alba botanica Shave cream is great!

Re: best shave cream

@Timdoeswell -- Here in South Africa you can pick up the Williams shaving stick at most big retail stores for about R30 ($4 US)  I highly recommend it.

Is it tallow (sodium tallowate) or vegetable based?

The package does not state the ingredients for some silly reason.  I have also "Googled" the ingredients but to no avail.  There is no fragrance, it has a relatively natural scent.

Re: best shave cream

I am not a man...but i can recommend a shaving gel as well, as I am often stealing from my man and he's been using the same gel for over 10 years. It is Clinique shaving gel in a grey bottle, can seem pricey but lasts (well, it would last even longer if I wasn't "helping out", lol). Will never cause irritation and is sooo gentle. My husband tried to switch to other/cheaper products, but they just don't compare to Clinique and cause irritation.

Re: best shave cream

Traditionalist here.

AdP is best I've used but, as pointed out earlier, is likely not the best value.

My current favorites: AOS Unscented and, for days when I want to wear just the light scent from shaving, Musgo Real Classic Scent.

With AOS I get the great shave and no worries of interfering with any other scent I have. Musgo Real lathers extremely well with my brush and gives a nice light barbershop scent (close to the skin) that lasts most of the day on me.

Re: best shave cream

O.K., LISTEN UP EVERYONE, the absolute best shaving cream in the world, for me anyways, is a product called "Coochie", its found in the traditional neighborhood "sex shop" or online and is mostly used by the ladies for shaving "down there", so you know its good if its for down there. I used to have a LOT of problems with irritation and razorburn until i was introduced to Coochie, all problems have been alleviated now. It comes in several scents and i think two different sizes and usually runs around $25 for the larger bottle which will last several months. Check it out and do your face a big favor!!!

Re: best shave cream

Trader Joe's Honey Mango Shave Cream is AMAZING! It doesn't foam or lather, but it's a smooth, silky creme. I will never use anything else! Granted, I'm a woman, but I have some delicate areas with coarse hair and this stuff works wonders. It is so slippery that the razor just glides on it, and it smells great! Plus it's only like $3.50 or something. Very affordable! You can get it online, or at any Trader Joe's store.

Re: best shave cream

I recently received generous samples of Martin de Candre shave soap and Domenico Caraceni 1913 shaving cream. They are absolutely amazing!

Unfortunately they are expensive and hard to get on a consistent basis.

It's the postage charges on the MdC that keeps most of us from buying it. Did you get the original (lavender) scent?

I recently bought both the Eucris and Spanish Leather shave creams from Trumpers, and they are definitely good quality and value. Now I find myself planning before the shower what fragrance I'll wear, as I've got matching shower gels and shaving creams for a fair number of my fragrances.

What fragrance do you think would work best with MdC? Having never tried it before, I'd only be able to guess Caron PuH or PdN New York.

On the MdC I sampled the unscented version. Caron PuH or Chanel Pour Monsieur would be nice choices.

EMJ has a new shave cream you can use with a brush or brushless. I have read a few positive reviews from traditional wet shavers.

Re: best shave cream

Edge,Nivea For Men, Shick Hydro For Men or Gillete Fusion.

Re: best shave cream

I was thrilled with L'occitane Cade shave cream. Now I'm using Nivea Silver protect, uite good, but don't have the feeling of gliding during shave. Quite good and soothing was Vichy man with magnesium ions.

Re: best shave cream

I agree with using the silver badger hair brush and I like the Crabtree and Evelyn Sandalwood Shave Soap, also the Art of Shaving Shave Soap and the Cream in Lavender, Sandalwood, or Unscented.  The Shave Oil from AoS is great, too.

Re: best shave cream

I like Zirhs shave cream. Does not smell much, but makes the razor glide easily over the skin. It is rather cheap, but it is great for my skin as it leaves it smooth, cool and it prevents any razor burn and "speed bumps". A little off topic, but I really do recommend Zirhs Clean too if you want a clean fresh feeling.
