Topic: Admins...FYI

Were you folks aware that there is a lot of confusion over the designation of these forums as a "club"?  On a recent thread, a number of members agreed that it took them quite a while to realize that the "club" was not a special, paid section of the site.  Maybe a name change to "message boards" or "forums" would solve the problem?

Good topic. I was one of those folks.  I'm not very adventurous about poking around websites, but the name did confuse me. On the site almost two years before I discovered Club was a message board open to all. D'oh!

Re: Admins...FYI

Hmmm...I guess I didn't see that thread...

Club is informal enough [to me]...Maybe a clarification of the 'no paid dues required' could be something added to the fabulous Welcome to Fragrantica thread you started, cryptic...

That might clear up the cloudiness!

Thanks for the nice words.   smile  The thing is that once you click on the "club" tab and discover the forum, you're home free.  It's those poor souls out there on the front page that don't bother to check out the club because they assume it's some exclusive enclave that I'm thinking about.  But if the admins want to keep the forums small and intimate, then they're going about it in the right way, I guess.   hmm

I liked the word CLUB and clicked on it immediatley to get the scoop.  Now it gives me a different attitude about posting here.  I was a member of Perfume of Life for years and never made a post but I posted a lot since I've been here.  The moderators and rules keep it friendly so I'll stay.

You have no need to travel anywhere.  Journey within yourself, enter a mine of rubies and bathe in the splendor of your own light.

Seems like we've had an influx of PoL refugees over the past few months, which is great, because you guys are very perfume smart.  Good to have you here.   smile

Re: Admins...FYI

This is an old dilemma actually we discussed this issue 2006 when we were plotting first draft of the greatest fragrance website on the world (that's our early mission statement we try to approach). Forum was very popular word at that time and almost any website would put forum section. We did and still do use a forum software to run this club but we wanted to give some direction to community what we want to build here. Word club means an association dedicated to a particular interest or activity. Since we are dedicating this website to particular interest 'fragrances' and we want to organize discussions aka 'activity' around that topic we found title club very appropriate. Since word association means a group of people organized for a joint purpose and other choices like forum or board were not so appealing.

Also it is good that you perceive membership as a privilege and thing of value. It is a very valuable thing for people who appreciate fragrances and want to learn from the most enthusiastic fragrance lowers on the world that you can find among members of fragrantica.
