Topic: Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds and Rubies

Hi Vintage Experts!

I received a mini of http://fimgs.net/images/perfume/m.1705.jpg Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds and Rubies in a swap and fell in love BIG TIME!  However, then I purchased a new 3.3oz bottle and it is virtually unwearable on me.  Just nothing like the mini I had!  I just won what claims to be a vintage bottle on ebay (only $9.99 plus shipping) so it wasn't much of a risk to take a chance.

I assume this has been reformulated and that is what the problem is here.  Does anyone know if this box/bottle is PRE-reformulation?

The box that the new bottle I bought was the opposite colors of this-red box with white lettering, so I'm hoping this is an actual old bottle that has the LOVELY rose and hyacinth of the mini I had.

Anyone know?

Hi amy777,

Don't know about Elizabeth Taylor scents specifically, but one clue is "the fewer ingredients listed on the back of the box, the older the formulation" because changing regulations consider more and more things to be allergens and require them to be listed. In the future, you can always ask for a picture of the back of the box before purchasing.

Hope the vintage you just won is everything the mini was.

Thanks lindaloo!  Actually, it just came in the mail today (super fast shipper!) and it smells sooooo much better than the brand new one that I bought recently.  It isn't as good as the mini, but that was parfum concentration and this is edt.  Here is a pic of the ingredients:

Not sure what any of this is/means.  I've never really paid much attention to perfume ingredients.

This is a good answer. I never thought of it this way before.

@ Amy, if you ever find the ore-formulation please let me know. I want some too!

Re: Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds and Rubies

Hi amy777,

Looks good, definitely not current. Besides the alcohol and "fragrance" this list is basically just preservatives and colourants (in order from most to least) which I think was already required (in the US) in the 90's when this scent was launched.

The newest versions (even if not reformulated) will have a much longer list on the boxes because they will have to include those components of what makes the actual "fragrance" that are considered allergens (some at any level and some just if above a certain percentage) such as linalool, citronellol, cinnamate, salicylate, etc, etc. Some of these components have very long names.

Glad to hear you found this sooooo much better. :-)

Re: Elizabeth Taylor Diamonds and Rubies

I think it's pre-re-formulation. I got one a while back and the box was all red with gold writing. I got mine brand new from a website.

Yay you for a vintage find.

glad

amy777 -- the print on the box just states that it is a tester [probador] and that its sale is prohibited...
