Re: Our natural smell (posted in other section)

I can smell that weird mix of menstrual blood plus perfumed sanitary napkin (especially the modern ones with wings!)
It's quite repulsive even if I smell it on very clean girls.
I'm happy I gave those things up many years ago and now use only the Mooncup!

wow...I have read every post in this thread and I find the subject intriguing....

I have to say that whenever I'm having my periods some of my perfumes will smell different on my skin!! I assure you this has nothing at all to do with my hygiene as I'm a clean freak and I eat well...but some of my favourite perfumes, especially the sweet and strong florals which normally smell luscious and creamy on me start smelling a little 'metallic' on my skin during that time of the month, and I find myself more drawn to clean and green/woody, unisex scents during this time. Isn't that strange! Is anyone else like this? No one else seems to notice though, even my sisters think I'm nuts when I tell them...but I know what I'm smelling http://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/sad.png

Very cool! I use the same thing, only mine is called the "Diva Cup"-they're wonderful-so much cleaner, more natural, so much less wasteful, and they save a lot of money. Every lady who has her menses should have one....

Oh, yes! I know the Diva Cup, same concept. It is so confortable, clean and if you take good care of it you'll save lots of money and environmental damage!

Another DivaCup fan here! I'm relatively new to it (2 years and counting), but in that time my DivaCup has more than paid for itself. Not just in terms of money savings, or environmental savings, but also in terms of time and energy savings.

No running to the store to buy "feminine hygiene products"; no worries about being caught without "protection," even with irregular cycles, since I can just insert it any time I think I might need it; and a LOT less time spent washing out stains!

I think that ALL adults are likely to smell someway and like or dislike rely a lot on the kind of relationship.
As a "regular" woman, if this term makes any sense, I never had the honour to closely smell female genitals, but I could smell quite a number of male ones and let me say some smell like rotten fish even if clean. I never smelled rotten fish coming up from my pantieshttp://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/yikes.png. I've cried for laughing for 2 months when an ex collegue burst out that men's balls stink like vegetable soup! Great lady

And actually I felt  his natural smell very well,  though my attitude towards it was quite neutral.

Re: Our natural smell (posted in other section)

I personaly also perceive smells a little differently when I'm approaching and during my period , more "touchy" - but that goes along with my emotions and nerves also , its just natural one's off for those few days. Also if I'm hungry perfumes can especially seem really harsh to my sense of smell not to mention my gut and head which really starts to hurt.http://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/69.gif

I love the clean sweat smell on a clean (operative word here - CLEAN) man - like after he has worked hard doing something outside, for instance chopping firewood - not to mention I prefer masculine men that don't have softer hands than I ! - that clean sweat smell on a sexy fellow will take me to the Milky Way any time ! http://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/tongue.png

I suppose some peoples bodies just run cleaner than others , thus healthier , I work with the public and so am exposed to the good, the bad and the ugly , usually the ones that look like they would stink ,do .

Have you guys noticed that some people that are in fact very clean , good personal hygeine ,ect always seem to look dirty somehow? There's even some celebrities that when I look at their picture & there they are wearing the finest of everything imaginable - and they still look dirty somehow , to me at least - not that I even dislike them or anything .

I do think that along with some of the other posters here that stripping away every bit of our natural scent is not a good thing either - filth is one thing and expecting youself or others to be completely odorless at all times is an other - going way too far into artificiality can be another kind of problem all together.

Emotional well being may also factor in how one would smell - extreme continued anger ,hostility, ect, and / or even medications that interfere with hormones and so on - all this could  contribute to a change in  body chemistry .

Re: Our natural smell (posted in other section)

2 days ago I had red half raw beef meat and 3-4 glasses of red wine and sweets. It was all part of a lunch with friends in a typical restaurant.
Then later I got panic attack and anger in myself (not violent towards others!). Then I got my cycle.
Well, yesterday I felt stinky! I had a careful bath and scrub, washed my hair and put all clothes to the laundry.
One single t-shirt escaped the laundry, I had worn it for 1 day, it smelled bad to my nose, which it usually doesn't happen with clothes I wear for 1 day. I like my natural odour when I'm fine, it is so gentle! I hate when I smell like this. I'm not sure that others can smell it but I do.

Re: Our natural smell (posted in other section)

I love the smell of a newborn baby and my dog's fur. I don't like to smell perfume in  place of soap and water. I hate the smell of greasy dirty hair. I don't care how "fashionable" it is.  Years ago when I had clothsline, I used to hang a lot of my clothes outside to dry because  nothing smelled cleaner than freshly washed clothes that had dried in the hot sun.

The smell of women....Smells neutral to me, I've had enough years as a (noncompetitive)woman to become comfortable with my sex. I don't trust any doctor with me who thinks I stink just because I smell like a womanhttp://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/lol.png

Re: Our natural smell (posted in other section)

I am hyper-sensitive to the way people smell (this includes the way I smell).  I can typically tell who has arrived to the office prior to me, based purely on smell.  When using a public restroom, I can almost always smell the private parts of the person who used the toilet before me.

I often find myself frustrated with people who don't think or don't care that others can smell their poor hygiene and unhealthy habits.  This world is fairly crowded.  There is no mouthwash, perfume, deodorant, or scented antibacterial hand gel that can cover the stench of poor hygiene.

Granted my standards are a bit high in this department, but I'm not saying I prefer that people cover up their natural skin smell with perfume or deodorant.  Scented products can be overwhelming all on their own!

And to weigh in on the original question:  I LOVE the way my partner's skin smells naturally.  This makes me want to be physically close to him rather than sit at the other end of the couch.  I firmly believe the more you like the way a person's skin smells, the more genetically compatible you are in terms of producing offspring.  But in my personal world, the rule of good hygiene always applies.

I'm the same way, I like my own smell! I shower every day and wear clean clothes too, of course...So I know what you mean about smelling gentle. Especially since I quit antiperspirant! It's when people don't like their own smell that they need to make some life changes! I imagine some people who don't like their smell try to drown it in cologne, perfume, extra-strength antiperspirant-deodorant, etc.
There should be a polite way to let others know they stink-Not everybody would care, but some people might start flossing more often, eating more green foods and foods with probiotics, wearing cotton....Just a thought! Italians have a gesture for everything, how about one to say"c'e' una puzza!"?

It a simple universal gesture: just pinch you nose between to fingers and say: "Che puzza!" (c'e`una puzza, c'e`puzza, I hate this keyboard at office with no Italian accents)

I guess we can just try telepathy!

Re: Our natural smell (posted in other section)

Yes, go and try with telepathy!

Once I worked in a small palce with a highly stinking lady, the kind of hormonal plus dirt. Her hair was always oily and she used to have McDonald's lunch directly on her keyboard.
At 9 a.m. it seemed that someone (dirty) had wild sex in the office. I went in and open the window in winter.
One of the collegues came back from a trip and brought a "special" very effective deodorant from US who would kill any stink and politely gave it to her saying: "I've tried it, it's very good!"
The stinker took it and just threw it in her drawer. No hope left.
Let me know if telepathy works.

Re: Our natural smell (posted in other section)

This is a complex subject! Our sense of smell certainly changes when we're pregnant, to prevent us from eating or drinking 'gone off' or bad stuff. I usually love very musky and woody perfumes but when I was pregnant (both times) I had to have everything citrus-smelling, soap, perfume oil (mandarin, body shop) the lot! My tastes changed back to normal once babies were here! I love the smell of my husband who never seems to develop B.O. at all, though his farting in bed has caused me to leave the room a few times!! I sniff my kids and my cats and my mum and husband can't believe how much 'sniffing' I do. I think some of us are just very sensitive and others must have a very 'blunt' sense of smell. I can smell changes in weather/seasons coming too.  Also, when I was an intensive care nurse, I could 'smell' patients who had head injuries- illnesses definately change body chemistry and scent.

hello fragrant ones, here is hathor dropping in to say hello. i read somewhere way back on this thread that someone who'd worked on an intensive care unit could smell a peculiar smell from head injury patients (sorry no time to look back now and find who it was). I can smell a musty smell from people with badly functioning livers, and people with kidney stones have a peculiar smell on their breath. at the end of my night shifts when all the people start coming into the building for the morning shift i can actually smell a concentrated smell of "people". the other day something really funny happened that i can't tell anywhere else, my cat discovered a pile of my discarded knickers in the bathroom and started having a good old snuffle and purring like mad!!!! which leaves me hoping i don't smell of cat food and am sharing my house with a purr-vert!!!! i think it was just a very concentrated smell of Mum-Mum. he likes to get into my boyfriend's laundry basket too. that's mostly sweaty t-shirts. (p.s we are clean people, his sweaty t-shirts come from the gym) . oh another thing i can smell is a general smell of infection, diabetic foot wounds etc. think i've mentioned my colleague with the sweaty scalp smell before. i think our exaggerated sense of smell is something many people have lost but that we've retained from more primitive forefathers who needed their sense of smell to survive. http://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/yikes.png

hathor,

I just have to say, you are awesome.    http://fimgs.net/b/img/smilies/buga.gif

I can also smell illness and concentrated people smells, and I can usually smell who has arrived in the office before me, but i would love to know what a badly functioning liver smells like.  This is a level of detail I have not been able to achieve.

Truly amazing.
