Jean Desprez Logo

Jean Desprez is a worldwide famous perfumer from France, great-grandson of perfumer F Millot. The only perfume so far produced by the house of Jean Desprez is Bal a Versailles, but the perfumer also designed fragrances independently, outside of the frames of the house. Jean Desprez was a first class perfumer who did not just follow trends, but invented them. His beautiful vintage classic perfumes were accompanied with outer packaging for his products designed by Paul Mergier and bottles designed by Leon Leyritz.

Some of the fan of Desprez’ fragrance Bal a Versailles who used it or still use it are: Michael Jackson, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Joan Collins, Elizabeth Taylor, Olivia de Havilland, Arlene Francis, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Britt Ekland…

Bal a Versailles is view as the world’s most long-cherished and classically sensuous scent. The house of Jean Desprez designed it back in 1962 but it is still widely popular and used. Bal å Versailles belongs to the group of Floral Oriental fragrances and it is composed of more than 350 rare essences. Top notes of this perfume are rosemary, orange blossom, mandarin orange, cassia, jasmine, rose, neroli, bergamot, Bulgarian rose and lemon; middle notes are built around sandalwood, patchouli, lilac, orris root, vetiver, ylang-ylang and lily-of-the-valley; base notes rest on tolu balsam, amber, musk, benzoin, civet, vanilla, cedar and resins.

The first new fragrance of the house in 50 years was launched in 2002. That is a new version of the popular Bal a Versailles, combining a vintage classic with the needs of today. The new fragrance by Jean Desprez penetrates the psyche, arouses the senses, and seduces as well as comforts. The fragrance is very changeable and gives a different signal each time it is applied. It is a part of a new fragrance system that will keep the scent new and relevant for years to come. It retains the “sexy allure” of the past combined with a hint of independence.

Before founding the house of Jean Desprez, the perfumer designed several beautiful fragrances:

Auguste Espirte de Chine Parfum was designed in 1925, as an homage to his grandfather, the perfumer Monsieur Millot. The perfume later became the most sought-after fragrance in Paris. Esprit de Chine opens with citruses, has a spicy, creamy floral heart, and closes with a base of white musk, tree moss and sandalwood.

Jean Desprez Escarmouche is a collectors fragrance poured in a sword-shaped bottle, with a Gold tip and cap (brass), black label, and a multi colored tassel.

Jean Desprez Debutante International Edition is an exquisite perfume created exclusively for Daggett & Ramsdell.

Jean Desprez Crepe de Chine was created by Jean Desprez in 1929 and based on exclusive, high-priced jasmine. It is one of the legendary complex French scents the production of which was discontinued because jasmine became too expensive.

Jean Desprez Votre Main Perfume was released in 1930, as one of the first Perfumes accompanied with a travel case with a laminated wood exterior with a grained interior combined with satin material.

Jean Desprez Jardanel Perfume was created in 1973 as a limited edition. It included a "sealed wax" top and satin lined box.

Jean Desprez 40 Love is one of the perfumer’s rare scents for both Men and Women. It is still sought after even today.
