Judith Leiber was born Judith Peto in 1921 in Budapest, Hungary. She is a world renowned designer in the development of haute-couture handbags and clutches.

She was the first woman who joined artisans who hand - made bags in Budapest. As a Jew, she avoided the Holocaust in World War II. Her father managed to save her with a document that he had (Swiss Shutzpass), which is now preserved in "The Holocaust Museum in Washington DC".

After the war, she began to engage in hand making of purses in her house, and later in a friend’s small factory. She immigrated to USA in 1948 with her husband, an American soldier, Gerson Leiber. She had worked for other design houses, up until 1963 when she finally opened her own label, "The Leiber Company," and focused on luxurious design of leather, evening bags and accessories.

Sophisticated evening bags, every day luxuries and special, unusual purses with sharp edges, made of crystal are only part of her rich and luxurious collections. Her blend of leather and charming rhinestones are at the very top are the fashion scene for over 40 years. The "Fine Arts" museum of Houston and "Los Angeles Museum of Arts" display her purses worn by First Lady on the presidential inauguration in 1953. Many royal patrons are regular customers of Judith Leiber creations. Her jewelry and purses can often be spotted on the Red Carpet.

Some of the original designed pieces are still available. The collections of her purses are exhibited in museums around the world. There is also a book, "The Artful Handbag", with a rich history of the company and it can be found in all of the 4 Judith Leiber boutiques. The boutiques are located in New York City, Atlanta, Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California. In addition, all the products can be found and purchased at the official website of Judith Leiber, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman stores.
