2013 Fragrance Foundation FiFi® Indie Nominees

The Fragrance Foundation has announced the official Indie nominees for The 2013 Fragrance Foundation (FiFi®) Award. The nominees represent the talented independent companies and individuals who created provocative new fragrances in 2012. Now in its second year, the FiFi® "Indie" award recognizes creativity, artistry and the entrepreneurial spirit. The winner and five finalists will be announced by Elizabeth Musmanno, President of The Fragrance Foundation, in a special award presentation hosted in conjunction with the upcoming Elements Showcase on Monday, January 28, 2013.

“This Indie award celebrates innovation and I find it one of the more exciting areas in the fragrance industry today,” said Elizabeth Musmanno, President of The Fragrance Foundation. “The Fragrance Foundation is proud to support the efforts of these innovators.”

“The Indie Brands are a driving creative force in the fragrance industry,” said Frederick Bouchardy, founder of Joya and co-founder of Elements Showcase. “We applaud their artistry and contribution to our industry.”

The Fragrance Foundation defines ”Indie” as an established brand that has been on the market for at least two years, is not distributed or owned by a large company and is sold in 1 to 50 stores in the U.S.

This is a niche designer
Parent company: LVMH

By Kilian is an eco-luxe parfum brand from Paris, created by Kilian Hennessy, grandson of the founder of the LVMH group. (The "H" in LVMH is Hennessy, the famed cognac-making family.)

This is taken from the Fragrantica website, where you clearly state the parent company. If this information is not accurate, I'm sorry I brought it up.

For the record, I don't see "By Kilian" on the list of perfume and cosmetics brands on the LVMH website.

One of last year's nominees raised similar concerns, and perhaps this is an area the Fragrance Foundation could better define.

Fragrantica has no official affiliation with the Fragrance Foundation--just a friendly and professional relationship based on a shared interest in perfume. :-)

I encourage you to express your concerns directly to the Fragrance Foundation. There is a "Contact Us" link on their website, fragranceDOTorg.

How come "AMBER OUD" by Kilian is a nominee, even though the owner is LVMH one of the biggest groups in France? (HENNESSY-LOUIS VUITTON-GUERLAIN-PARFUMS CHRISTIAN DIOR-DOM PERIGNON-MOET & CHANTON and a lot more)After all Kilian Hennessy belongs to the owner's family. And do not tell me that he did it on his own now.
