Amaranthine: the daring new fragrance from Penhaligon’s

09/03/09 06:35:28

In a darkened room a woman lies amid a sea of silk sheets. Candle flames cast a flickering web of shadows across the walls; shimmering threads of light in the darkness. She smiles, takes a bottle of perfume and touches the stopper to her collar bones and décolleté, then runs it up the back of her legs. The air trembles with the scent of tropical flowers and spices, anticipation and desire. Something catches the light; the soft beat of wings, fluttering in the night air. Time spins and she becomes sleepy, everything heavy and drowsy with dream.

As Penhaligon’s evolves as a fragrance house, there is a continual quest for innovation and individuality in each new fragrance release. For 2009, something unusual was required; a fragrance for the contemporary woman, shocking and compulsively sensual.

Penhaligon’s turned to master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and Amaranthine is the startling result: a complex choreography of perfumed desire. A corrupted floral oriental for those private moments when everything is anticipation.

Amaranthine opens with a dramatic flourish of spices and tropical green. This unsettling lick of drama is beautifully ambushed by an unctuous accord of jasmine and ylang-ylang, a heady bloom renowned for its aphrodisiac properties, and clove swathed in spices, tea, musk and the rounded beauty of tonka bean absolute.

Amaranthine will be available as Eau de Parfum (50ml and 100ml) and as a limited edition Parfum (30ml) housed in a hand-crafted crystal and silver bottle.

Jewellery designer Alex Monroe has created a silver butterfly charm bracelet which sits around the neck of the limited edition bottle as well as a collection of jewellery pieces featuring butterflies and dragonflies which will be on sale at Penhaligon’s boutiques for a limited period.

                     Composition:

Top: green tea, white freesia, banana tree leaf, coriander seed oil, cardamom absolute

Wow! Just reading about the description of this perfume makes me want to try it. It almost sounds like a page from a romance story or and intriguing poem. Very beautiful description. The notes sounds promising. Musk, vanilla, sandalwood, condensed milk and egyptian jasmine.....Thats sounds divine. Hoepfully it smells as good as it's described. I'll have to add this fragrance to my wish list.

I love Bertrand Duchaufour, and the description was terrific. My mom has worn Violetta for years. Malahbeh is nice , and I wear that sometimes. But this sounds like something I must have. I loved the interview with Bertrand Duchaufour on Fragrantica, and reading this release surprised and happy he is going to be the nose for Penhaligons.

Love the sound of this, and a gorgeous bottle, too. My dressing table (not that I have a dressing table, but, y'know, IF I had one) is just crying out for this.
