Coup de Foudre is the most recent fragrance by Parfums DelRae. It was introduced at Barneys a month ago (see Hieronimuss's report). The fragrance is inspired by Rose de Mai, that very rose from the gardens of Grasse (France), the heart of perfumery. The name of the perfume in French means "bolt of lightning," the phrase used for "love at the first sight."

We have been glorifying rose since ancient times, in the West and in the East; the amount of compositions with rose as a starring note is absolutely countless, but rose still magnetizes us with her beauty. I passionately collect fragrances as memories in my mind. It is the best way to keep them shining. I picked up my love of rose from the hair of my youngest daughter. I don't know why she smelled so rosy, probably from a secret mission to my "treasures." Anyway, nobody can now make me believe that roses smell old-ladyish.

When I inhaled Coup de Foudre, I coudn't compare it to anything in my rose garden, and I was glad to meet this new rose composition.

Coup de Foudre is a gleamming fresh rose, so innocent that you wouldn't dare to imagine it dark. She is young and humorous, readily opening her heart to you. In the heart the rose blooms together with peony, jasmine and magnolia. Peony would never whisper, he can't love without affection, and he makes her cheeks glow. A few dewy nuances more—magnolia with her delicacy and dewy radiance perfectly revives the rose—and you have a young playful rose blooming around you. It's so easy to love her!

Time goes by and matures the rose. She becomes just several minutes older, calling up her dignity, and covered with precious oily nuances. She is still very young, but now very much aware of her nobility.

Rose, Peony, Jasmine and Magnolia - sounds heavenly! Definitely one to try - a romantic perfume I think. Hope it is available in Australia.
