Smelled them all yesterday at Saks
The bottles are HEEAVVY, which I love. I love heavy, thick bottles because they feel like money well spent and they aren't light like a cloud.
Velvet Patch. smells a lit bit like Bottega Veneta but I think there's a deeper smell to it and it's a tad sweeter
Velvet Desire smells just like By Kilians Beyond Love. TUBEROSE TUBEROSE TUBEROSE!
Velvet Sublime smells like a citrus concoction. I guess every niche line NEEDS one and it smells like all of the others
Velvet Love smells like a soft, half sweet half floral nothingness.
Velvet Wood smells really nice and woody!
Velvet Vetiver it also kinda citrusy and energetic. I didn't spray any on my skin since on one arm I had the new By Kilian Amber on and on the other I had the new Bond No 9 Andy Warhol on but If I were to purchase any of these it would be Wood and Patchouli. I want both of those on my collection : )
Probably just a boutique line. Why not? Everyone does these now...
This collection is now available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $195, you guys! I almost went in there yesterday but I spent too much time in Neiman Marcus so I didn't! I'm so pissed! I didn't know they had these! I'll be going back on probably Monday, I think
Nice thick simple glass bottles, fancy engraved golden metal plates, simple interesting formulae in EDP concentrations and textured material caps...seems promising!
BUT how do they smell is MY question?
They "look good" (on the notes AND in pictures, with their subtle golden juices), but after the Anthology fiasco; is anyone REALLY gonna pay 120 pounds (~192.50 USD) for 50 ml. of ANYTHING from this House??
It seems the "Niche" bug has bitten D&G too. *sighs* NEWSFLASH: Making a strong simple composition and slapping a steep price tag on it does NOT make it niche; neither does a simple bottle nor "fancy" packaging. It is ALL in the juice, my friends.
Hopefully (one of these days) they will be available in a mini coffret, like the first five Anthology, and maybe (just maybe) THEN I will try them. Velvet Vetiver, Wood and Patchouli SEEM interesting...but there is no way I am buying ANY of these blind until I sniff for myself!!
NB: I totally agree with Lana Lool about BY Man!! Why these two (Stephan & Domenic) ever discontinued either version of BY is beyond me!
If they really want to make some money, all they have to do is bring back By Man!
120£ is a true theft, which i'm not suprised of since D&G have been thieving the Italian government for ages (they do not like to pay tax). MAY I BE STRUCK BY LIGHTNING IF I BUY ANYTHING D&G AGAIN!!!
It seems like D&G are kind of trying to reach an "higher" target now.. well, we'll see and for now I have to admit I'm much interested in trying Velvet Desire and Velvet Love.
I really hope those fragrances will be MORE LASTING than those of the Anthology series, otherwise they will be a huge disappointment (at least for me). And if the compositions listed here are complete I guess there's not much to hope. Prices are a deterrent too...
Way too expensive for D&G products and such simple compositions! :P
Well, I've been disappointed for the price! The bottles are so luxurious and gorgeous but the price is not mine!
