Eau Pear Tingle: A Multi-Sensory Fragrance

Hollywood-based natural perfume atelier Opus Oils announces the release of Eau Pear Tingle, a "Multi-Sensory Fragrance Experience" that was designed to be sensed by those with Anosmia (the inability to perceive odors) as well as appreciated by lovers of fine fragrances.

Eau Pear Tingle debuted at the International Fragrance Assocation (IFRA) Fall Luncheon, where it was unveiled to industry insiders and billed as "the future of perfumery" by keynote speaker Michelle Krell Kydd, an award-winning writer for magazine Perfumer & Flavorist and the blog Glass Petal Smoke.

Eau Pear Tingle is the first scent of its kind. Perfumer Kedra Hart of Opus Oils created the fragrance, with love and a little scientific know-how, for her own mother who is anosmic, as well as at the request of Ms. Kydd, out of love for her friend Kathleen, who is facing the loss of her sense of smell due to Parkinson’s disease.

Michelle Krell Kydd had this to say about the fragrance: "Eau Pear Tingle is as much about 'sensation' as it is about the unique ability that perfume has to express periods of time. The fragrance starts out with a modern mouthwatering juicy twist that is redolent of green pear,pineapple and a hint of coconut. This is followed by the trigeminal effect of camphor, mint and black pepper that has a delightful side effect; it steadies the breath with a mild cooling sensation complemented by the essence of fir and wood shavings. The perfume dries down to an addictive classic base that is rich in sandalwood and musk."

She comments further, "The fact that someone who has anosmia is able to sense this fragrance is truly an innovation in the art of perfumery. It is also cause for the industry to consider anosmia as a source of inspiration for scent creation…."

The notes for Eau Pear Tingle include Pear, Lime Blossom, Spearmint, Jasmine, White Musk, Pine and Sandalwood.

Eau Pear Tingle can be purchased in a base of alcohol or fractionated coconut oil, ranging in size from 1 dram parfum roll-ons ($35), 1/2 oz. parfum roll-ons ($55), and EDP sprays and atomizers from 1 oz. to 2 oz. The notes sound gorgeous. Intriguing, and love the packaging. Is the framed pear at the bottom supposed to look like a face with eyes and a big nose?! Cute. And considerate to anosmics!

What a unique concept and important aspect of smell/non-smell addressed in this particular scent. I look forward, as a non-anosmic person, in sampling this fragrance myself. Kudos to Kendra Hart for developing something like this :)
