Estée Lauder presents Modern Muse, the first major perfume launch in the last decade since Beyond Paradise from 2003 (wwd). This perfume is Estée Lauder’s attempt to climb back to the top of the perfume houses. Modern Muse symbolizes what it means to be an independent and self-confident woman today; sure of herself and her style. It is a confidence that inspires.

Perfumer Harry Fremont tried to express the duality of the composition by creating a two accord composition of sparkling jasmine (which symbolizes femininity) and sleek woods (representing strength). The first accord, accord of jasmine, blends exotic notes of mandarin, tuberose, fresh lily, honeysuckle, dewy petals, Sambac jasmine and Chinese Sambac jasmine absolute. The sleek woods accord combines two types of patchouli, Madagascar vanilla, amber wood and soft musk.

Model Arizona Muse (whose name fits perfectly) is the face of the new fragrance. The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

I'm not a big fan of jasmine, but I so long for this fragrance to appeal to me. The bottle is beautiful and I like the marketing. Hope it'll be available in my region of the world.

I work for Estée Lauder and had the opportunity to briefly smell this fragrance from an Education Executive from Lauder, I have to say it is Amazing! I'm going to a seminar in 3 weeks, hopefully I will be leaving with a sample! Excited this will be a major launch, I remember the Beyond Paradise launch, there truly hasn't been anything that big since. Sensuous was a new fragrance launch but not a major launch, that's much different.

The ad for the fragrance reminds me of their Mad Men collection ads, love it!

Cool a new fragrance launch from Lauder! Have to remember to check it out. The ad copy tells me it is a luminous, watery floral oriental perfume. It will probably smell really pleasant and "on trend", trying to reach the largest demographic as possible, 20 to 50. It sounds to me they are trying to out do the ever popular chanel coco M.

I'm surprised people aren't familiar with sensuous. It ha s several flankers. Such as "Nude"and "noir".

Notes sound good. The name is a turn off for me. I couldn't tell it to anyone if asked what I wear. So I could never wear it. Same goes for celebrity frags. It's not my thing at all ll. I like to say I am wearing chanel or Boss or ysl etc. it has to sound good. It's part of the fragrance to me.

Sounds great but since I'm still waiting for Very Estee to appear in the Belgian shops I'm afraid this one is also going to be on sale only in the States!

Love the name of this!
And I typically LOVE a number of Estee Lauder fragrances.

------------

I'm still researching Estee Lauder's policy on animal testing. The way that this is written is very tricky, in a legal sort of way. They state that they do not do animal testing, unless required to by law. When I called their corporation to find out more on this- they said that the USA does not require animal testing, but when they are marketing their products in some other countries, that animal testing is required. Hmmmmm, so -- if I buy a bottle of one of their fragrances here, an animal in another part of the world may suffer due to legal aspects of animal testing??? This is the main reason that I've started to search for a new signature fragrance. Do I really want to know that my American dollars are being spent on animal torture for animal testing ANYWHERE in the world? Hell NO!!!

------------

Estee Lauder, until you re-think this policy of yours, and cut out ALL Animal Testing-- I'll be searching for a new fragrance that does NOT test on animals! K?

Oh, and -- Mac is owned by your Estee Lauder companies as well. I will use what I have, but will also look for another product that DOES NOT Test on Animals! Yes-- it is THAT BIG OF A DEAL to me!

I'm very intriged to try it, but I will have to do so with my eyes closed as not to look at the ugly bottle!!...it's so tacky, it looks like nothing, more like an ugly lego stocking vaguely reminiscent of an alien shape...
And don't get me started on the name...the mere appellation "modern" makes me think the exact opposite: old and trying too hard.

So far, on the marketing front, this new launch is a flop IMHO.

Now on to smelling the juice...

I don't care about the ad at all ; or the model or the name usually.....Just want to test the juice! I have to admit the name sucks......It's cheezy!

Two types of patchouli? Where is her cigarette? The notes sound more sultry and worldly than this mouth-breathing waif clothed in a sterile museum depicts.

This ad is insulting. What's this about smelling confident? Are they selling maxi pads? And what is self-confident about hedging your bets by mixing floral and wood? Woooo, two types of plants - tres independent! Totally agree with Tovah: "the name of the fragrance itself sounds like something Avon would have launched in the 1950s." Indeed, modernism is beyond retro. Kinda young, kinda now (snapping my fingers). Kinda free, kinda wow. Dooby-dooby-doo. She can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan...

Might as well name it, "CoEd Seeks MRS."

Wanna update your image of the muse? Show a silver-haired female executive with her size 11 feet on the desk, swilling a bourbon and leering at the Diet Coke guy for inspiration. Or Kate Hudson leering at Matt Bellamy. Now he's a muse we can use.

I gotta say, I miss those big Estee Lauder fragrance launches that were such a big deal in the 80s and 90s.

The cap from the bottle make´s me think of Incanto Bloom from Salvatore Ferragamo, it's the same style.
Ferragamo maybe more romantic, Modern Muse more business-like!
Estee Lauder had after Beyonde Paradise, Bali Dream, Limited Edition White Linnen Summer Fun, and others.

Absolutely not Estée Lauder's dna. Neither the ad, nor the name, nor the bottle.
It looks like an Oriflame ad !

This sounds and looks absolutely sleek and gorgeous but I'm not a big fan of patchouli. However, done right it can be complementing and I have high hopes for Estee Lauder's standards of quality. Even though some of the perfumes from this house tends not to work well with me in terms of body chemistry or personality, I am extremely looking forward to this as a jasmine fan!

Madame Estée Lauder was a great perfumer herself,I didn't like all what have been created after her passing away, but as I always do:I become soooo interested to try a new thing by EL,it's kind of a habit, not more .The nose behind this has a long portfolio, but in my opinion there is only tow big hits there: Romance by RL,and CK one, both did a sensation,so it's a good credit,I just hop this scent is not too woody in Oudy way

Sensuous was a MAJOR launch. Even bigger than Pleasures! I don't remember much about the launch of Beyond Paradise. I smelled it here and there at some point but I never found it attractive. Certainly not nearly as amazing as Pleasures and I utterly adore Sensuous. The notes for Modern Muse, unlike Sensuous, are a rather standard-fare Lauder blend. Being picky about art, architecture, and history, I'm not fond of the name "Modern" Muse. Why not just "Muse"? "Modern Muse" makes me picture an Ayn Rand heroine frothing over Bauhaus and New Objectivity (modernism). Not that there's anything wrong with Ayn Rand heroines, it's just the name of the fragrance itself sounds like something Avon would have launched in the 1950s.

sooo, like others have stated--What happened to Sensuous and it's flankers? Anyway, I look forward to this showing up in stores soon. I'm surprised it didn't make it for Mother's Day.

Cool- she's at the Guggenheim!

Perhaps the ad's objective is to portray an image of a person (woman, natch) swooning over the affirmation that her 20th-century art collection has proved to be a valuable commodity. ;)

And the subliminal: "Modern Muse"... MM... "The Mmm Perfume..."

I do recall Estée Lauder's GIGANTIC promotional campaign for Beyond Paradise. Included ad spots on television and at the movies, featured Madonna singing its' praises and whatnot. Maybe the blue-skying didn't produce the results that were hoped for.

Maybe the Sensuous series, well-received as it is, failed to deliver the company's target revenue.

I guess Estée Lauder is hoping Modern Muse will be a sure bet, profitwise.

Looking forward to trying this one!

It is a great news, but after Beyond P. we could enjoy Sensuous (and flankers), Very Estée, Wild Elixir. As I remember they had a huge campains (probably Sensuous) or not?

Anxious to try. Estee Lauder scents have always been high-quality, long-lasting fragrances, even if they're not always quite my taste.

I'm looking forward to this fragrance, I was getting tired of reading updates on New Estee Lauder fragrances only to conclude that they'd be available in certain locations so thank the lord i'll be able to smell this one without having to be in an airport somewhere in the middle east.
