Esxence—The Scent of Excellence is an important annual event in the world of niche perfumery, which has already started to have sizable influence on all perfume branches. This year Esxence celebrates five years of its successful existence.

Esxence is a good starting point for new companies, for they are given a very good amount of immediate exposure to potential customers and buyers, but is also a very useful exposition for already well-established brands, due to its great potential in expanding distribution and presenting new products. Perfume bloggers and beauty journalists are welcomed to this event and their work makes perfume news spread rapidly all over the Internet. If we compare the list of brands from the previous Esxence (2012), we see that brands tend to regularly participate in Esxence, and we are more than happy to be able to get a lot of perfume news in one place.

Elena Knezhevich founded Fragrantica together with Zoran Knezevic in 2007. Since then Elena has taken care of its design and content as the Editor-in-Chief. Elena was born in Russia, studied Slavic languages and literature in Moscow, and lived in Sarajevo and Belgrade, where the idea of Fragrantica was born. Now she resides in California. "I have had a nomadic life style since I was born, changing homes, cities and countries. I love having this island on the Internet that I built myself, to reach from everywhere and feel at home."

L'Esxence 2013 non è stata purtroppo un evento meraviglioso dal punto di vista delle novità sbalorditive nel campo dei profumi di nicchia. La maggioranza delle Maison si sentono quasi obbligati di produrre uno o due delle variazioni di Oud (spesso sintetico), invece di provare di inventare qualcosa di diverso. Su tutto questo sfondo degli odori ormai molto conosciuti, ma inseriti nelle bottiglie bellissime per far sembrare un frutto della ricerca approfondita, c'era una profumeria artistica che il suo sviluppo io seguo già da 4 anni. Sto parlando comunque di XERJOFF di Sergio Momo. La loro linea "Oud" (6 EDP) che quest'anno è stata arricchita con altri 5 Attar Oud, la linea "Join the Club" (10 EDP) basata sull'idea, secondo me geniale, di creare i Club virtuali, che poi diventano i veri Club delle persone che acquistando un profumo trovano poi nella scatola una tessera del Club scelto, e così si registrano sul sito a questo Club, facendolo diventare con il tempo un Club vero... Queste idee sono veramente una tradizione della profumeria artistica ricercata. Spero tantissimo che nel prossimo futuro anche i profumi di XERJOFF faranno parte della ricchissima collezione della Profumeria Al Sacro Cuore di Bologna.

The Esxence 2013 wasn't unfortunately a wonderful event from the point of view of the stunning novelty in the field of niche perfumery. The majority of Maison feels almost obliged to produce one or two Oud perfumes (often from synthetic Oud), instead of trying to invent something different. On this background of well known odors inserted into the beautiful bottles to make it look a result of thorough research, there was an artistic perfumer that I follow its development since 4 years. I'm talking about XERJOFF of Sergio Momo. Their "Oud" line (6 EDP), which this year has been enriched with 5 other Attar Oud, the line "Join the Club" (10 EDP) based on the great idea of creation of the virtual Clubs, which then become the true Clubs of people who are buying a perfume find then in the perfume box a Club card of chosen Club, so they could register on the website to this Club, turning it into the real one. I think that these ideas are really a part of tradition of artistic perfumery.
This looks like a huge group of presenters! I can't wait to hear about them, excellent!
I've bought flights. *Immensely excited* This'll be my very first fragrance event although I've blogged about perfumes for almost 1.5 years now!
Such incredible list of participants, I wish I was in Milan too, to experience all these famous brands and aromas.
