Etat Libre d`Orange - Long Live Perfume
The motto of the house since its establishment is "Perfume is Dead, Long live Perfume". The founder and the creative director of the house is Etienne de Swardt who, after working for seven years as a designer with Givenchy, decided to establish his own brand named Etat Libre d’Orange.
Etienne de Swardt originates from South Africa and the name of the house is an allusion to one, formerly independent, South African republic. The name of the house also symbolizes Etienne de Swardt's personal mini-revolution in creation of fragrances.
The house, established in 2006, has so far launched 16 fragrances, including the newest two presented this fall/winter. Beside the two new, Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection and Noël au Balcon, there are also Antiheros, Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby, Charogne…
By establishing this house, Etienne de Swardt wanted to give a complete freedom to perfume creations. He wanted to provide choice for those who do not want mass production fragrances, but want to explore fragrances as means of seduction.
The bottles are intentionally designed to be simple, with straight lines, in order to emphasize the quality and deepness of the fragrance. Etat Libre d’Orange has become an avant-garde in perfume creation, with an innovative olfactive platform offered to consumers. The fragrances are designed in a way not only to provoke, but to arouse all senses. The accent is put on the mere pleasure!

A very interesting festive fragrance, Noel au Balcon, appears as limited edition and only in France. It was launched on November 1, 2007. Its name relates it to Christmas holidays, but the name is not the only thing connected to Christmas.
Thematically it alludes to a girl which '...is a gift for well-behaved man. The one who bursts into a party and suddenly makes you want to believe in Father Christmas. Half way between a flirtatious temptress and a dancing queen, temperature rises by her presence. To hell with 'global warming'. She's here to have fun, no matter what. Heavenly lightness of December...sweet honey notes at the start lie on a vanilla-tangerine accord and all at once life becomes as captivating as the fullness of her décolleté. ...She call's for her after-midnight man, the one who will abduct her under the Xmas tree. And who will jealously sweep her of her feet and into his room, like a child would with his most precious present.'
It was created by Antoine Maisondieu. It unites notes of mandarin, honey, vanilla, neroli, apricot, pink pepper, patchouli, musk, labdanum, cinnamon and black cumin. It can be purchased exclusively via Sephora.fr.
All other fragrances by Etat Libre d'Orange are available via Etat Libre d'Orange official web site.
