Golden Globe Nominations: Shirley MacLaine as Coco Chanel

Nominations for the Foreign Journalists Associations Award in Hollywood, the popular Golden Globe have just been published. The prestigious Awards are awarded in categories - movies in cinemas and for TV production.

Among nominees for the main female role in TV or short series was Shirley MacLaine for her role in TV movie Coco Chanel produced by Lifetime Channel.

Shirley MacLaine herself says she has many similarities to famous fashion designer: ''We are both very lively, simple and spontaneous.'' It is interesting that actress Audrey Hepburn suggested 40 years ago that McLaine should act the famous fashion designer: ''I have always denied it since Coco Chanel was short and I was not. It is obvious that Audrey was right, and I took the role several years afterwards.''

This is one in a line of movies on Coco Chanel. ‘Coco avant Chanel’ will appear next year worldwide, a movie in which Audrey Tautou will act the famous creator. Yes, Maryel hit the nail on the head! This film was extremely disjointed. Flashback after flashback and not enough emphasis on her fashion/perfume genius. MacLaine was excellent as always and if I were a betting woman, which I am, she will snag the well deserved award. Best scene in the movie is displayed in the 10Th photo still above. Other than that, after watching the movie twice I had a unusual urge to visit a millinery shop and I don't even wear hats!

This film was extremely choppy and did not give the viewer enough time to explore or understand (fully) why and HOW Coco Chanel became the extraordinary woman she was. Still, I must give kudos to Shirley MacLaine, she played the role of Coco to the hilt. My only wish is that she could have had more time on the screen as she has so much energy to give to her roles.
