Gourmand Scents of Demeter Fragrance House

Demeter Fragrance is a perfume house in Pennsylvania which produces fragrances with aromas and scents of nature such as soil, flowers, fruits, cakes, drinks, and other interesting smells. So far they have produced over 200 fragrances with thematic names.

The founders of the house are Christopher Brosius and Christopher Gable whose motto in creation of fragrances is to 'revive the memories and take back through time'. The name of the house is inspired by the Greek goddess Demeter. Demeter Fragrance makes fragrances of natural components, and imaginative notes, following an innovative approach. Their intention is to make you smile to the every day, recognizable notes meaningful only to you when you smell some of their fragrances. Simply said, those are fragrances that evoke memories.

Demeter Fragrance perfumes do not have classical pyramid of top, middle and base notes, but are all created with linear composition, they do not change over time. All their products apart from soap which is being produced in Italy are made in USA.

Floral fragrances notes of Demeter Fragrances are composed of flower essences. But for production of fragrances which smell like cakes, Gin & Tonic, Hawaiian Surf or Angel Food Cake, they use so called Headspace technology. They analyze the air around the source of scent or odor and separate the fragrant molecules.

It is said that human brain can differentiate only 130 fragrant molecules. By segregation of fragrant molecules they search for the same notes by combining various natural components until the identical note is found.

Beside the fragrances, Demeter Fragrance produces body care collections (body lotions, fragrant baths, scented oils, body peelings, soaps and crèmes), furnishing fragrance and scented candles.

The fragrances I would like to present this time are suitable and thematically connected to this time of the year, created to remind of winter time.

Winter is a unisex fragrance launched in 1994. It was created by Christopher Brosius. It unites the notes of orange, rose and cedar.

Snow is unisex fragrance made to smell like snow, fresh, cold, and refreshing. It consists of notes of soil that snow falls on and remains there, with addition of notes of dust. This fragrance has got two FiFi awards in 2000, one of which as the best American fragrance.

Interesting to mention is that the noses of Demeter Fragrance had experience snow through the story about Eskimos who have seven different words for snow: anniu – snow that snows, api – snow on the ground, siqoq –snowdrifts, upsik – snow blown by wind, kimoaqtruk – snowflake, salumaroaq – smooth snow plane, natatgonaq – scabrous snow planes.

As fragrant desserts there are Apple Pie and Banana Flambee. Apple Pie is a unisex fragrance composed of notes of apple, cinnamon and sugar. It was designed by Christopher Brosius in 2003. Delicious Banana Flambee is made of banana, vanilla and cinnamon notes, and is a unisex fragrance as well.
