Home Fragrances at Fragrantica!

Every place has its own soul. We can try to define what makes the place we live in our home: the light and the air, style and furniture, things we love, functional or futile, maybe flowers... But besides all material things, all our emotions, thoughts and relationships at home reflect from its walls like a mirror, and make it cozy and inviting for living and visiting. What helps us organize all our impressions to remember them? It’s a home’s smell.

Like a person, every home has its own smell, even if we don't use any fragrance for it. We keep that smell in our memory, which absorbs the soul of the place, and we unconsciously like, or dislike, visiting it.

As a perfume can't improve a person, a candle can't change your home atmosphere drastically. But how wonderful it is to notice that very scent you always smell at your best friends', or at your beloved person’s, or on Christmas day at your own place. How wonderful it is to inhale lavender from your pillow (because your mother always uses sachets with lavender to freshen the bedding) when you come home from a long trip, and feel yourself at home!

Fragrance is a magic you can't control. Every time you try hard to choose your signature scent, smelling hundreds of fragrances, you fail and give up. Because you need his compliments, his loving eyes. You're shivering at his touch to unconsciously love everything around at that moment—including fragrances. Don't be so serious with such a serious thing like smell.

We will launch Home Fragrances at Fragrantica to entertain you. We will work hard on adding many more Home fragrances to our base, and we hope you will certainly help us with your advice.

British perfume house Ormonde Jayne, whom we love, helps us to introduce to you the new section of our site. Home fragrances are where Linda Pilkington, the owner and perfumer of Ormonde Jayne, got her start. Her handmade candles were so wonderful that she got many clients right away, including Chanel.

Candles by Ormonde Jayne both smell and look beautiful, and burn up to 100 hours (if you choose Linda's new multi-wick candle). Signature Ormonde Woman, cheerful Frangipani, fragile Sampaquita, sophisticated Orris Noir, cozy Tolu or rich Ta'if—it's not easy to choose, but it also hard to fail. All of them are gorgeous!

Ormonde Jayne will give away a set of mini candles to three of our readers, so you can try three very good fragrances for the fall season: Ormonde Woman, Tolu and Orris Noir. As always, we will choose three Fragrantica members after reading all your reviews on personal and home fragrances. Please visit the official website of our sponsor Ormonde Jayne.

We are curious to know what kind of home fragrances you like, dislike and haven't tried yet. Please define it for each category:

I love diffusers and home fragrances. I have use diffusers in my bedroom and in the bathroom. On the homeoffice I use room sprays.
I love two brazillian brands: Granado (an ancient pharmacy from Brazil) and Drops of Joy (Drops of Joy have a fig line that is wonderful, called Madre Santa).
For my bed sheets I generally use especific bedding fragrances (of Brazilian brands) or perfumes from Granado (Neroli, Citrus or Iris - they´re too big - 300ml - so I use them to perfume my sheets).
And when I´m on the mood, I light incenses on my living room or home office.
I don´t use candles because until now I never found one that could perfume an entire room. They´re way too subtle.

I live in a VERY small studio apartment, so every time I spray perfume it becomes room spray :)

great home fragrances are created by noses just like perfumes... I love diffusers and candles.... but just like perfumery, one must beware because now everyone is creating home fragrance... and price isnt always an indication of quality.

Honestly I haven't used home fragrances very often before, I like fragrant flowers in home (peonies are the best), I like bedding fragrance by Guerlain and L'Occitane (they call it mist for good night, organic lavender), I use fragrant sachets and like them, the most subtle way to fragrant clothes and bedding.

Recently I bought Tilleul candle by D'Orsay, but it's quite unnatural for this season.

Rebella, I like your way of using home fragrances ;o)))

This is EXCELLENT! I've been trying to find a home fragrance to scent my entire house, and have only found one or two things that work nicely enough that I'll actually go back to them. It's so hard to find something nice--especially when your house smells like food CONSTANTLY.

Interesting and fun with this new section. For me to scent my home is an important part of the over all impression of my home. I want the scents for each room to fit with the furniture, decor and colours of each room. It´s important that the secnt is prominent and noticeable, but never strong and dominant.

When I was younger I loved incense, but become allergic. :( So now I usually have scented candles.
