I Hate Perfume!

I Hate Perfume!

07/15/08 13:39:34

Yes, this is the name of a very interesting small perfumer house, founded by Christopher Brosius in 2004, in Brooklyn. Christopher Brosius is also the founder of another house which produces fragrances (not perfumes –as they say themselves) - Demeter. Christopher Brosius (in further text CB) created the most well-known fragrances for Demetar (such as Snow, Dirt and Apple Pie), but he left this house just to start a new one - CB I Hate Perfume, from the very beginning.

CB created perfumes himself, with help of just a few assistants. Massive production of his perfumes is impossible in such conditions, which the perfumer would not like to change in any way. The name of the house – I Hate Perfume – is a declaration of his strict attitude: CB hates the perfume which is modern, massive, unnatural like a pattern, and CB likes the perfume, which follows us like music and which reflects our soul like the eyes. 'Perfume is life', says the perfumer, and 'I encourage you to find yourselves, to expand your personal space and enjoy yourselves'. CB mostly uses new materials, which were never used in perfumery before him, such as dandelion, or their combinations.

Simple bottles were also created in a laboratory, but their simplicity reminds us that the main thing here is the fragrance. The perfumes themselves are created in oil concentration (absolute) and the so-called Water Perfume, since CB simply does not like to use alcohol and considers it harmful for skin and hair, and on top of that, very flammable. Water and oil are much more natural materials. They are just what our skin needs, and we do not have to wait until alcohol evaporates to enjoy the composition.

Each perfume by CB I Hate Perfume has its own story. It is often a memory of something nice and dear or the creator's fantasy, which are often familiar even to us after we

investigate a particular perfume. All fragrances, and they are numerous, are set into collections, which look like chapters of a research. In each chapter CB thinks about nature of our senses, philosophy and psychology of fragrances, as well as about pleasure they bring.

I am a Dandalion is a new perfume by CB, which is in the same time his little secret from CB Secret History collection. The collection now counts five fragrances and is dedicated to the author’s personal thoughts and fantasies. Dandelion is CB's favourite flower and he connects it with his moments of happiness. I am a Dandelion is the scent of freshly picked dandelion from meadow.

The collection Archetype includes primary fragrances which are important to us, since we feel them genetically. Have you never felt like hunter with a spear in your hand in an ancient wild forest, the beauty of which is in shadow of its dangerous character, and your blood boils with premonitions of hunt? If you forgot it, you can remember it with Wild Hunt . Eternal Return is the first fragrance of the series, which tells us that everything comes back on its path and back to its beginning. Primary fragrances can be mutually combined on your skin.

What is a house for a man? It is not just a house where you live, but it can be just its kitchen (In The Summer Kitchen) or some place where you feel comfortable: library (In The Library) in your dear friend's room with a cup of hot Indian tea in your hand (Russian Caravan Tea), or simply under the fir tree (The Fir Tree) – it is important to feel at home.

CB is not an innovator only in fragrances, but also in their shapes. Besides the traditional one i.e. the untraditional perfume in oil and water, CB creates simple fragrancy monothemes (Accords) – natural and chemical. Small bottle with absolute can reveal what differs Haitian vetiver from vetiver of Java or Indonesian, how water, first snow or sea smell (in addition, Mediterranean and North Atlantic have a different scent).

You can find fragrances for house and clothes in the perfume lines of CB I Hate Perfume, but the most interesting of his fragrances is a perfumed spray against mosquitoes. Very ingenious! CB, who prefers spending time outside rather than in the house, hates mosquitoes, so he found the perfect solution as a perfumer and as a person who knows how to enjoy.

2ml absolute costs 15 USD, 15ml - 75 USD on the website CB I Hate Perfume, although they can be found for 20 dollars less in Internet stores. The spray against mosquitoes (very natural, made with water) costs 40 USD for 150ml.
