"I have always loved the desert. You sit down on a sand dune.
You see nothing. You hear nothing.
But still, there is something that breaks through the silence... "
                                                                                                   Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Al Oudh is a new fragrance of the house of L`Artisan Parfumeur, created by Bertrand Duchaufour, constructed as a spicy-woody-animalistic combination. The fragrance is created as a mixture of oriental nuances, balms and smoky agar wood. Duchaufour has explored new scents on his journeys to distant countries. He pours beautiful sights and experiences into his new fragrant pieces. Some of his fragrant travel descriptions and very successful creations are Timbuktu, Dzongkha and Fleur de Liane, which fascinate with their nuances and reflect regions they were inspired by in a perfect way. They take us to recently introduced Havana Vanille (please read the interview) and the latest, Al Oudh.

The Arabian desert is a strange kingdom with sand as far as the eye can see, dunes which shimmer in the wind, and caravans loaded with gold, myrrh and oudh… A far away land of sumptuous refinement, elegance and style – ever elusive, it is the epitome of the Orient. The ever impertinent alchemist, L’Artisan Parfumeur offers an invitation to the sensual encounter of oudh wood and an oriental twilight: Al Oudh. An Eau de Parfum. Both warm and dense, animal, with notes of leather, spice and wood. An elixir, sensuality itself.

The fragrance opens with spice (caraway, cardamom, pink pepper mixed with dried fruit (dates), a promise of what’s to come. A floral heart note of neroli and rose with a hint of iris adds a touch of sensuality to the leather note enveloped in castoreum and civet with a mellow base of rare musk. The base note is a harmony of light coloured woods (sandalwood and Atlas cedar) enhanced with patchouli, incense and myrrh. Vanilla and tonka bean give their touch of softness to the fiery base of this unique wood with its wickedly suggestive mixture of civet and castoreum.

Delicately engraved oriental arabesques decorate each facet of this bottle of Eau de Parfum. Henna gives a new sparkling colour to its reflections of shadow and light. A subtle game of gloss, colour and warm gold illuminate the packaging.
