Boisé Torride is the fourth and latest fragrance in the “Les Elixirs Charnels” range, which belongs to ‘the exclusive collection’ which are only available at Guerlain boutiques. They are created to reflect “Feminine Indiscretions”, and although they each have the same bottle, these fragrances express the many sides of a woman. All are housed in a flacon which is restrained yet luxurious, with a thin metal label showing a bow on it. Could this have been inspired by the bow motif at the entrance of “La Maison Guerlain” In Paris?
Boisé Torride is a fragrance that expresses the contradictions of a strong woman. It is feminine and masculine… gourmand and woody… emotional and radical… soft and strong. Applied to my skin, notes of Cedar wood, Patchouli, White Musk and Bergamot immediately were apparent. After a moment the Jasmine and Orange Blossom revealed their floral and fresh properties, together with the sweetness of Red Berries and Tangerine. The fragrance turns into an ensemble cast; yet there are two stars - the Patchouli and the Cedar Wood take the lead, while the other notes are supporting and shining in their own right side by side.

Once again, we see the House of Guerlain moving into the 21st century, yet showing respect for its heritage…innovation and the use of only the finest ingredients. That’s Guerlain and that’s “Boisé Torride”.

Author’s note: I did my washing up after I tested the fragrance, which I also applied on the top of my hand. When I was finished, I could still smell traces of the fragrance. It lingers for a very long time…

Thanks to the editor to change the Nose to Thierry Wasser.
What I can tell so far - if you compare this one to the other three creations of Les Elixirs Charnels - is that Mr. Wasser likes to use musk's. If you look to the creations by Jean-Paul Guerlain I notice that they not often contain musk's. I think that is really a personal touch what I really like about a Nose. This collection shows again how creative Sylvaine Delacourte is. Without her Guerlain would not be what it is today!
I like to thank all for the lovely comments so far and keep on asking to review the fragrance also in the database, together with the three other Elixirs Charnels. A warm call to review as much Guerlain creations in the database as you like! Your opinions are very precious to me!
With love,
Wim
Lovely job, Mr. Wim !
This is definitely wearable by either gender...
Very soft and longlasting, it bears a distinct lineage to the Chypre Fatal.
Wonderful review, Wim. I think I would like Boisé Torride.
I did received the information today that "Boisé Torride" is created by Thierry wasser.
All the other "Elixirs Charnels" are created by Sylvaine Delacourte and Christine Nagel.
I do apologize for this inconvenience.
I was lucky to get a sample of this two days after it arrived in the US from the Guerlain boutique. They were cocky enough to tell me that I would prefer it over the other fragrances I was planning on buying, and well, me thinks they were right.
The Cedar note is very high quality, and I just love the zestiness of this fragrance. I've decided this will be my birthday present to myself :-)
Thx for the lovely comments.
I have been already a few times in that magical place in Paris, and the architecture is very inspiring. It is the same architect of the Ritz.
Would we not all go and visit it?
I would love to!
I still need to smell the other ones to be honest. But it could then not influence my view on the Boisé Torride. ;o)
With Love,
Wim
Dear Wim, thank you for the wonderful review ;o)
I would like to have all fragrances of the collection. When I first smelled them, I thought: this was not Guerlain.
Now I realize how different Guerlain can be. Yes, the collection stands aside, this is my opinion, every Elixir is very delicate and ultra feminine, sophisticated as every Guerlain, but in the different way. The Elixirs share the main Guerlain's characteristics: high class, respect and passionate love to women. Yes, this is Guerlain! I read that for Christine Nagel is very important to understand and realize in perfumes the image and the very essence of the perfume house she collaborates with. She succeed it in Elixirs, but she brought a lot of her own elegance in every creation.
such a good review Wim... I never noticed but yes it looks like the bow emulates the door motif on the bottle.
I found that Bois Torride to be my favorite of this new collection..
I've had the opportunity to test this twice and both times I was struck by the point in the development where the jasmine and cedar strike a balance.
Wim is absolutely correct that this can be worn by a man who has worn the other Guerlain "feminine" fragrances in the past.
very nice article, seems an interesting fragrance......too bad i can t test it :-(
I'm excited to try this one! Christine Nagel is my favorite perfumer and Elixir Charnel Gourmand Coquin is my favorite perfume. I also found the other two Elixirs to be very well done, and I have high expectations for this latest one!
Thanks for the article! :)
