My Tender and Affectionate Beast

My Tender and Affectionate Beast

08/07/08 15:37:05

The wolf – a fierce and intelligent, responsible and self-sufficient inhabitant of the forest, a demonic symbol of romantic rebels, an ideal of strength and masculine concord with the severe reality, - is undoubtedly an attractive figure. No matter its true character, the wolf has been a hero of fables, legends, novels and poems from the ancient times. Even its most unfavorable characteristics provoke an unintentional feeling of respect: being fierce by nature, it accepts ferocity in return, and with great dignity. In any case, “An Angry Wolf’ (‘Mechant Loup’) from the house of L'Artisan Parfumeur might certainly suit your beloved and even make him act and feel in a more romantic way.

Mechant Loup is a deep woody fragrance, which, without any aggression or any overtly masculine accords, presents itself as, first and foremost, a scent created for men.

I thoroughly enjoy its well-balanced sense of composure, its special combination of non-aggressive, even sweet notes (licorice and honey!) together with the categorically manly ones, which, by the by, are not at all in a rush to make their presence known.

In this particular creation, I sense something very foreign to a woman’s universe – like soundbites of a strictly man-to-man talk or even that of a hunt: smoke, leather, wood, tobacco – all of that sounds rather dry and a tad ‘boring’ on the tender skin of a woman. A man, on the other hand, might feel a genetic bond to the images evoked by Mechant Loup.

After his transformation, our Man, who is by now watchfully contemplating the forest, needs a partner – his romantically heightened sense of smell now seeks an ultra feminine fragrance, a scent that would be strong and animalistic in its attractiveness, - he is in search of his She-Wolf.

Louve or ‘A She-Wolf’ by Serge Lutens gets your attention from the get-go, its head notes astound you by their sharpness (bitter almond), but before you might try to turn it down, the fragrance immediately follows its opener with a bouquet of flowers and the bitterness gives way to a very generous sweetness.

Soft, yet bright and spicy accords permeate the nocturnal sultriness of the composition: jasmine shamelessly shines in its nakedness, while musk and amber stimulate the already excited mind. The fragrance that had opened with a powerful call for action plays up its feminine notes: it doesn’t even bother to mask its Desire, yet it messes with the Man’s subconscious emotions and it just glues the Man’s nose and all his attention to its wearer.

By the way, have you ever heard a wolf’s howl in the darkness of the night? Anybody who’s interested in getting those unforgettable goose bumps you get from the mixed feelings of fright, delight and becoming one with nature (or is eager to experience the sensation once again), is welcome to do it immediately on wolfcountry.net
