Fragrantica attended the Perfume America Expo, a global event in Midtown New York City. The show, which was open to the trade, the press and on Thursday, July 2 to fragrance lovers from around the world, was well-represented by well-known prestige and established brands as well as exciting newcomers to the fragrance world.
Enjoy. We bring to you some of the highlights:

Some of the new lines were fascinating. Sahlini introduced her new fragrance named Femininde, presented in such beautiful bottle (every bottle is decorated by hand), and the perfume is seductive, warm, and irresistible.

Atelier & Flou introduced four fragrances for women: a voluptuous Floriental named Shamsin, the fresh and delicate Sloane Rose, the heavenly Paradis Paradis and the delicious Ten Nine. Four masculine fragrances included: the dynamic Eau d'Aviateur, the mysterious Black Purple, the chic oriental Katana and the elegant and seductive Monsieur mon Amour.

Courvoisier lovers, now you can add After Shave to your luxury Eau de Parfum.
Have you ever tried to create your own fragrance? I have tried it at PXA with the help of charming Francois Henin from Jovoy Paris. First we needed to decide on the theme and pick the notes:

We smelled different components and combinations, and it was not easy to choose, but the process was very exciting. Francois explained the origin and history of each raw material he used, the fragrance structure and main characteristics of olfactory families.

Francois added oils drop by drop, mixed oils in an old-fashioned way, and asked me to precise, add and remove. When the mixing is over, he adds alcohol into the bottle:

My very own perfume is ready! It's an aromatic citrus with a touch of fresh rose.

We were delighted to meet with family owned businesses that have been in perfumery for over 100 years such as, Molinard, Jean-Pierre La-Rouge Benard, (who greeted us as old friends) and Guy Bochara (from the heart of perfumery, Grasse) and with the esteemed house of Creed.
Creed was established in 1760 and has created perfumes for Jacqueline Onassis (Love in Black), Cary Grant, and Princess Grace of Monaco (Fleurissimo), as well as many other luminaries, yet it remains a family business. This year (2009) two new fragrances were introduced: Acqua Fiorentina and Rosalie.

Parfums Guy Bouchara is a small perfume house from Grasse, specializing in making custom perfumes. M. Guy Bouchara, créateur-parfumeur, represented the house:

As you read in our interview with Jean-Pierre Lerouge-Benard the 4th generation president, Molinard has been a family business since 1849. We were delighted by the treasures exhibited at their booth from their Museum, as well as with their new fragrance 160.

Here are Jean-Pierre Lerouge-Benard and his daughter Charlotte at the PXA representing Molinard:

Jivago is also a family-owned company which produces luxury perfumes that use pure gold as a part of composition. We loved their ingenuity; you can test their fragrances on your skin, or on a white feather—no paper blotters!

Caron's famous Baccarat crystal urns were so elegant and contained many well-known classic perfumes such as Tabac Blonde:

Annick Goutal had a lovely exhibit, displaying their signature bottles:

Three new fragrances arrived on the American market from Italy, Acqua di Stresa:

Weil Parfums added to their line Eau de Weil and Arome de Jouvence, such fresh fragrances for Summer.
We'll keep reporting from Perfume Expo America tomorrow.

It's not late to enjoy in Perfume Expo America. We invite you tomorrow (July 2, 2009) to Hilton Americas, New York City, to participate in this great event!

Thank you for the show, and the many coloured pictures, which ones the mood that there was on this special day is fetched for me. Interesting to read from this world, which there is so much in the luxury of few people,. I have heartache a little bit when I read what this world is like, but I thank you for the fact that I may see it so, and I may imagine it. Goutal and Molinard wonderful, and they provide a big surprise always. :o)
We met so many great people today;old friends and new. Fragrantica was the BUZZ of the show. Molinard's 160 edp was beautiful on Elena. Vervaine edt was very sexy on Zoca, and Habanita edp quite exotic on me. So many wonderful niche lines (like Ellie D,Juliette has a Gun)We ran into alot of 'friends in fragrance'. Lots of hugging and spritzing all the way around...
Wonderful update -- I especially loved seeing the photos. Thank you for sharing with us!
All my favorite brands Annick Goutal, Creed, Caron, Molinard. how exciting... and it would be great if one of the enw lines is a big hit and you were there...
wish we could have traveled to NYC but this was the next best thing. must be quite an experience to try out so many fragrances under one roof. very well written and it was a real treat to read. I especially liked that its not just all sales, that the Molinard president greeted all of you as friends.
More reasons to be bitter about my poverty...I have the week off too...have a good time!
Thank you. I so wish I was there too. Hope you guys having a really great time!
