Last Tuesday we participated in the great Fashion's Night Out event that took place in New York City. It was nearly impossible to visit all the interesting events taking place that night, so we chose the most desirable one for us— Frederic Malle's personal consultations at Barneys New York.

Everyone who entered his boutique that night had the opportunity to speak with Frederic about his or her favorite perfume and get Frederic's valuable advice on choosing fragrances for personal use. We took advantage of this and asked Frederic to recommend perfumes for our readers. He chose two of his personal favorites. One of them, Geranium pour Monsieur, Frederic himself has been wearing, with great pleasure, during this summer. The second recommendation, Dans Tes Bras, was his suggestion for the ladies. He told us it is one of the most popular choices among the Editions de Parfums and that it's magical on a woman's skin.

Geranium pour Monsieur and Dans Tes Bras (50ml) will be sent to two registered members of Fragrantica. All you have to do is write fragrance reviews, for any designer. Please visit our perfume reviews contest page for more details.

Chat Lunatique do not worry about 'lack of popularity' of fragrance Vetiver Extrodinaire. As Frederic Malle said 'it is not good to be everybody's best friend...' some people simply love some fragrance and use it no matter what other say just because they like them.
I love Vetiver Extrordinaire, I think if somebody likes this note, she/he must try VE. I like the harmony of warm spicy notes and vetiver, it's beautiful on men's skin.
Geranium is not among leaders too. I believe it's because Geranium is a new fragrance. I have a geranium in pot, in front of my doors, and I recognize this spicy sweet green note in GPM. Very unusual and beautiful ;o)
'Vetiver Extrodinaire' is the standout for me; I am surprised by its lack of popularity!
merveilleuse creation ce n'est pas par hasard si Catherine Deneuve porte Noir Epices
Very gracious of M. Malle to meet with fans!
I love love love La Myrrhe and am surprised not to see it listed here.
I am really most surprised that "Vetiver Extraordinaire" is lagging so far behind in estimation !!?? What is going on ???
I would have thought that it would easily have been at very least in the "Top 5".
In fact, I would easily rate it as one of the very best vetiver frags available.
I think it even manages to outshine Guerlain's "Vetiver" for excellence, and that is saying allot !
So why, (at time of posting) it's actually lagging fifth from the bottom, is really totally beyond me ???
At least, I suppose, I can console myself with the wonderful fact that, as usual, my tastes and those of the "majority" are thankfully very much in strong contrast!
Which I think, when it comes to perfumes, is really rather a good sign ! (And may it always remain so ! ;o)
fery2 interested about this perfume....may be it new inofation perfume..good and god luck !...
Dans Tes Brass is not only woody for me.It smells like mushrooms in the sunny forest After rain with fallen wet leaves.I like this then field is a haze.
When I smell Noir Epices , I am femme fatale. With long black silk dress, red gloves and expensive tobacco cigarillos.
I love it very much!
Unique perfumes!
I love these:
L'Eau d'Hiver
Une Fleur de Cassie
Iris Poudre
Unique.
This is a line where i own since 2002 many of the scents:
Une Rose (edouard fleisher)-dirty rose with truffle note
L'eau d'hiver-jean claude ellena -milky vanillic
Parfum de Therese-Edmond Roudnitska(I believe this is the most beautiful fragrance ever created by the master, and he influenced Mr. Ellena during the latter days of his life)
Un fleur de cassie by Dominique Ropion
I do not own any of Mr Roucel's or any of the recent scents. He is an overdoser structurally
Based on my knowledge Mr Ropion is the most versatile of the perfumers in the collection
I believe that Edmond Roudnitska was the most gifted perfumer of the 20th century.
In my interview with Michel Roudnitska, he is the most (Noir Epices)there was such a interwoven story between Edmond,Jean Claude and Michel. Its remarkable Mr. Malle captured a piece of perfume family and history...BTW the biggest influence in Michel's perfumery is jasmin
I was introduced to his scents two years ago, I loved the idea very much and when I try Edition de Parfums, I always think about creators, their fragrant dreams which Frederic helped to come true.
I don't think that here are all the best from Jean-Claude Ellena, but it's so good to see the master enjoying in his freedom. I think here you can find the quintessence of his style. For example, Mr Ellena loves to experiment with layers, textures, structures which are almost weightless... He is a perfectionist.
Mr Roudnitska is a dreamer, he loves Orient, but he is a Frenchman! That orange in Noir Epices, which is so genially incorporated in the composition, makes it refined, airy, French-made. It's about a man from the West who adores the East.
Dominique Ropion (Carnal Flower, Vetiver Extraordinaire, Geranium and Fleur de Cassie) has made four scent for Frederic Malle. Every of them is rich, finished, nothing is to add, like a story which explains everything and which you leave absolutely satisfied. No questions, but clever answers. I mean it's not a sketch, it's a work. Ellena's works are more like sketches, so legere they are. But I believe his works are also very-very rational.
En Passant is a sketch, most lovely sketch, emotional and cheerful!
Maurice Roucel (Dans Tes Bras, Musk Ravageur) is a seducer! I think he thinks more about the reaction, about us, than expressing his own dreams, thoughts, etc. But this is very hard question, this is about psychology. Somebody likes to receive, somebody enjoys in giving.
I love thoughtful perfumes, like these of Frederic Malle. Thank you!
Obrigada, adorei o Sait, adoro perfumes!
Vickalena, I did the same questionnaire and got the samples (not the same 3) mailed to the US. When, much later, I was able to visit the boutiques in Paris, I found they still had all my information in the computer, and the saleswoman I spoke to was the very person who sent me my samples. The salespeople are terrific at the FM boutiques--and also at Barney's in the US. They spend a great deal of time and give a thoughtful consultation.
I have tremendous respect for the concept and the scents themselves.
My favorites are En passant, Une Fleur de Cassie, Dans tes bras, and Iris poudre, but I also love many others (L'Eau d'hiver, Carnal Flower, Lys Med., Angeliques sous la pluie...and of course, French Lover!)
Editions De Parfums Frederic Malle perfume house is unique by its concept - what a genius idea to unite the best modern perfumers in one House... and what can be better for the creative person, than a possibility to work with the best materials and to have no restrictions...
At will of destiny, my acquaintance with niche perfumes has begun with the house of Frederic Malle. Many years ago, when Editions De Parfums was doing its first steps, I have filled online a small questionnaire "Find your perfect perfume" and soon I received a letter from France with a handwritten note and three perfume-samples: Musk Ravageur (Maurice Roucel), Lipstick Rose (Ralf Schwieger) and En Passant (Olivia Giacobetti)... I have fallen in love with Musk Ravageur, but only 2 years later I managed to buy my first Frederic Malle perfume - of course, Musk Ravageur! I love it since and till now... Later, during years, I have had many other happy discoveries: L'Eau d'Hiver by Jean-Claude Ellena, Iris Poudre by Pierre Bourdon, Une Fleur de Cassie by Dominique Ropion. My husband's favourite is also D.Ropion's perfume - French Lover...
Many of Frederic Malle fragrances very soon became a true classics, though the House is very young. One example - Carnal Flower by Dominique Ropion became a strong contender to a classical Fracas! I'm not surprized that Carnal Flower is a leader in Fragrantica voting!
I find Frederic Malle perfumes to be very special and different from many other niche houses. What is amazing about Frederic Malle fragrances - that each of them has very bright personality and many scents are really uniqe! Thank you, dear Mr.Malle, for adding more beauty and happiness to our world!
Carnal Flower has been the leader from the very beginning. And I am surprised with the results of both Bigarades. ;o)
My favorites are:
L'Eau d'Hiver
Lipstick Rose
Bigarade
Vetiver and Carnal Flower.
Which do you love best?
@Malegria he did not say new perfume...
I have tried Gerasnium and it is great fragrance. I love it and I hope that I will win perfume reviews contest. Just kidding of course.
what a wonderful treat. thanks so much Jeca
Oh wow! I can`t wait to find out about the Russian name of the new perfume!
Jeca, I think I've tried everything except Outrageous. It's a great name. I don't know how I missed sampling it.
I must say he is a very charming person, it was easy and very interesting to talk with him. ;o)
Frederic said that he liked Russia and that he enjoyed visiting it (my country). One of his products that will be released soon in NYC, is named in Russian.
Has anybody tried Outrageous?
A fragrance consultation with Frederic Malle? I'm green with envy! Great photos.
