I guess everyone knows to which star sign he/she belongs. I find the idea of relating perfumes to Star Signs very interesting and fun. For a change it´s the perfume that chooses you, not the other way around. And after becoming familiar with all the twelve different Star Sign perfumes from CnR Create I am sure about one thing: they are all lovely and interesting perfumes that are worth noticing.

I can only speak for myself, but when I wear the perfume for my Star Sign, Virgo, I feel very relaxed, comfortable and balanced. I have never encountered such a comforting perfume before. I am very happy to present Robert Boehm, a devoted astrologist from Vienna, the founder of Star Sign Perfumes, It´s Me!

For how long have you been an astrologist, Robert?

Robert Boehm: It must be about 25 years that I was introduced to this fascinating subject. I have participated in many courses, studies, and research work with other astrology colleagues over the years. This is a field full of science, history, myths, psychology…. A knowledge that goes deep in our hearts and minds.

When did you start thinking of perfumes as suitable for different star signs?

Robert Boehm: A long time ago, in fact. Perfume is my love and my hobby, and I seem to have a nose for it. At the beginning, I blended some essence oils to make my own perfumes. Then, friends and customers loved what I wore and wanted to buy it from me!  About two years ago, when I visited my friends in the South of France (near Grasse), the idea of creating my own star-sign perfume series came to light.

How long did it take from when you started thinking about it until you had realised your ideas about Star Sign Perfumes? Was it easy to find a perfume manufacturer to work with?

Robert Boehm: Over two years. It was a long and complicated journey to realise my dream, because there were so many things to take care of. Finding a good perfumer who believed in the astrology concept and was willing to produce for a small company was the most difficult.

To my blessing, I found a wonderful perfumer, Mr. Olivier Funel—he is young, talented and open-minded. His family heritage (three generations of perfumers!), his technical background (medical biologist) and his adventurous nature made the creative process a great experience for me. I got excellent support!

How did you decide which scent is suitable for which star sign?

Robert Boehm: I studied the connection between scents and astrology for many years. There is old literature and historical records on how our ancestors used scents to create harmony between themselves & the universe around them.

As I mentioned earlier, I do have a good nose for which fragrance type goes well with which personality. Blending home-made perfumes for so many years also gave me practical experience of knowing what perfumes can give the wearers a sense of security, make them at ease with their cosmo-environment, and make them feel good about themselves.

So, I compiled a list of ingredients for each star-sign for our perfumer.

Is the final formula your own decision or a compromise between you and the perfumer? Is there anyone else that is involved in this creation process other than you and the perfumer?

Robert Boehm: Very good question! With the professional guidance from our perfumer, we worked and worked on the formulas, then we re-worked and re-worked them again. He respected my astrological ideas, but at the same time, very openly gave me advice on what can be done much better, or what ingredients should not be used due to technical and regulatory issues.  Sometimes he put a little twist in the balance of ingredients and a boring scent suddenly had "life." It was so fascinating, so magical!

Besides our perfumer and myself, I also invited over one hundred women from astrology clubs in Vienna to evaluate our perfumes and provide us with feedback. These rounds of evaluations took a lot of time, and were rather complicated.  But I am happy we did it, because I wanted to get the best final results. After a lot of hard work (but also pleasant work), 12 distinct perfumes were created for each star sign.

When I tried the perfume for my star sign, Virgo, it made me feel very relaxed and most of all, balanced, in a way I seldom experienced with perfumes before, is this one of your goals with the Star Sign perfumes... to make your customers feel relaxed, balanced, and confident?

Which, in my personal opinion is great, since the market is overflooded with perfumes that aim to make the wearer feeling younger and sexier. Perfumes that make the wearer feel more like herself is much more unique and interesting.

Robert Boehm:
Thank you so much for asking this. You spoke to my heart! The last thing I want to do is to create another sexy-feel-young perfume. We have enough of these in the market. I want something very different. First, harmony with yourself and your surroundings is very important to me.  When one is in harmony, confidence and happiness tends to come naturally. Second, I want our wearers to feel good about being themselves, not someone younger (or older), not another celebrity. When a woman feels good about herself, that woman is beautiful.

At this point you´re offering Star Sign perfumes for the 12 different Star Signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pieces) but for a female audience, do you have any plans to make Star Sign perfumes for men? Or maybe even more "bespoken"/personal kind of perfumes, like a perfume for a person with the sun in Virgo, the moon in Libra and the accendant in Gemini?

Robert Boehm: Another good question, Annelie. Many people have asked me to do a series of men's star sign perfumes. I have been working on it, but it requires a lot of time for research, to get inspiration, to have discussions with the perfumer, to test…. So, at this moment, I cannot tell you when they will be launched.

I receive comments quite often that some of my perfumes (eg Aquarius and Pisces) smell great on their husbands!

For tailor-made, personalized perfumes which suit all astrological aspects, we need to calculate the person's birth radix, know the planet positions, know many different influences, then match the personality and fragrance type. This process requires a lot of communication with the client and is complex. I can only do this with private clients. For some customers, I work on special Lilith-perfume that includes other mystic and magical aspects independent from their individual star sign. But this is mainly for people who have a deeper knowledge and interest in astrology and esoteric studies. This is too specific for a general audience.

Have you ever noticed that people of some star signs are more interested in perfumes than others, do you have one or several bestsellers among your Star Sign Perfumes?

Robert Boehm: Capricorn is a great seller, but I think this is because it falls in the Christmas season, and our perfume is a great holiday and birthday gift. Other signs that sell very well are Virgo, Aquarius and Libra.

Do you personally have any favorite perfumes? If so, why are they your favorites?

Robert Boehm: I create my own personal perfumes for myself. If new phases take place in my life, my instinct will tell me what scents I should wear to enhance my inner harmony and transmit good feelings. I either make some changes to my collection or create a completely new blend.
For women's perfumes, I have no special favorites (expect my own star-sign perfumes!)

There are many perfumes on the market that are good products, but the main point is, one needs to choose carefully to make sure it actually suites them and promotes good feelings and harmony within them, and that beautiful feeling should be transmitted to people around them.

At the moment, I am in love with a perfume from a very small perfume producer on a small island in the South Sea! Although I have my own perfume line now, I am always interested to learn about other products. Having gone through the creation and commercialization process of making my own perfume line, I understand the efforts behind each new perfume producer—the passion, energy, perseverance, hope… It is an exciting and challenging journey.  I appreciate it more now.

And, since we are on the subject, what is your own star sign?

My star-sign is Taurus with Libra-ascendent.

Do you think that your star sign has influenced you in creating perfumes?

I believe it is the constellation in my radix.  My sun and two other planets are in the 8-house, and I also have special pisces-aspects in my personality, like moon in the 12-house. This allows me to have a connection to the holistic sense of life and intuition about other people's feelings.

I have samples of Star Sign perfumes to share with some lucky readers, contact rebella with a PM which Star Sign you´re interested in. I will send one sample of each sign to the first responders. I´ve only got one sample of each sign so don´t hesitate if you´re interested. I will of course also need your address.
