An unusual line of fragrances was launched in order to bring the scents of old books closer to modern readers of e-books who adore the scents of old, yellow pages, and for whom the scent of books is a real aphrodisiac. The collection aims at people who read e-books on their computers, iPod devices or cell-phones. The fragrances were created with an allusion to the aromas of paper of your favorite books, and as they say, "they are compatible with a range of devices (e-readers you use and e-books formats)."

Smell of Books collection is available in five aromas:
• New Book Shell
• Classic Musty Smell
• Scent of Sensibility
• Eau You Have Cats
• Crunchy Bacon Scent

New Book Smell introduces aromas of newly printed books on fine paper, with aromas of glue and ink. Classic Musty Smell will make you sneeze, because it smells like old books which were lost and forgotten somewhere in corners of shelves. Scent of Sensibility will be adored by women, because it brings fragrance of violets, horses and potpourri. Eau You Have Cats will please animal fans (at least by its name) and it smells like the book shelves from an old granny's house. The fifth fragrance from this unusual collection, Crunchy Bacon Scent, is perfect for fans of books who care about their health and consume fewer calories. They will have an alternative to a lack of cholesterol while reading during breakfast.

This amazing collection features an unusual warning:
Please use in well ventilated area. May cause dizziness and hallucinations. May cause itching and runny nose. If symptoms persist for longer than eight weeks please consult your physician. Not for use on “real” books. Do not use while riding public transportation. Discard empty container with hazardous waste. Not for use as a room deodorizer. Not for use on burning books...”

I followed the link to their site.
The announcement of the product, a fake complaint from the "Authors Guild" , and a "product recall' were all posted on their site the same day: April 1, 2009.
Maybe it cold be made clearer that fragrantica is isn't posting it as real news.

They just recalled the whole line...
But even the recall announcement seems not very serious. Apparently the Chinese got the "New Book Smell" mixed up with "New Car Smell"?!?

Sandrina, do you have a source besides their web page?

The web page really does look like a it is all just a joke. If you look under "Compatability" and "Warnings" especially.

It seems like a little parody aimed at the "CB I Hate Perfume" scents such as "In the Library", and at people who lament the rise of e-books culture.

:))

Smell of Books was launched by DuroSport Electronic company. These are not personal perfumes, but scents for technical devices, just like they stated. They are compatible with e-devices. The company creates innovations in area of technique, to they invented fragrances, as well.

They wrote on their website that they received positive reactions from the first clients :))) Since people reacted so well, it must be that there are no hallucinations and negative effects listed in the warnings.

And about "Eau de Bacon", LOL, I'm not afraid of men who would follow me because of Bacon, but of hundreds of cats and dogs from my neighborhood who would not leave me alone! :)

Sandrina, I was lol at this. it doesn't look like you would use as a personal perfume. too ugly and price too cheap. maybe its a drug and you need a prescritpion. its funny, but the warnings are scary. Are they an American company becauseif they are i can't see how the FDA would never approve it..

Did you know the smell men like most according to a survey? BACON.

just spray BACON in the air wherever u go and imagine hundreds of men following you until they develop sneezing attacks

Sounds like a pretty good joke, but I can't imagine who would like to wear something like this. But maybe there really exist those who like to smell bacon on their skin ;)
