Island of Mayotte, situated between Madagascar and Mozambique in the Indian ocean, was marked in 2006 by one of the best harvests of ylang-ylang flowers. This harvest of the most beautiful sun-bathed yellow petals produced exotic heart of the opulent composition.

Island of Mayotte geographically and formally belongs to the Comori Islands, while it is politically divided from them and belongs to France. Administrative language is French and the island has the status of the official territory of European Union. Climate is tropical, marine and moist, with long, rainy period from November to May and dry, summer period from May to November. It is very beneficial for lush vegetation and exotic plants, so the main decorations and symbol of the island are Vanilla Mayotte, Frangipani, Papaya, Guava, Hibiscus, Passionflower, Strelitzia,  Baobab and, among many other sorts, the phenomenal Ylang Ylang.

Ylang Ylang is a heavenly flower, which is intoxicating and powerful. Its Latin name is Cananga Odorata and it blooms on Cananga tree. The tree develops fast and it grows up to 5 meters in the first year, while the maximum height it can reach is 12 meters. It enjoys sun rays, and grows very well in areas of rain forests. Leaves of this tree are very thin, gentle and shiny, whereas flowers are greenish-yellow or rarely pink and blue. They curle their petals and resemble stars. Opulent and intoxicating essences are extracted from yellow flowers and they are used in perfumery as the best oil.

The name of this flower denotes 'wilderness' in the Tagalog language (main language of the Philippines), and its natural habitat is in: Philippines, Indonesia, Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia.

The scent of this flower is intoxicating, with rich and deep nuances of rubber scent, intensive creamy aromas and floral heart which reminds of jasmine and neroli. Ylang-ylang essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of flowers and it is divided into several phases. The first distillate contains 40% of oil, but this percentage decreases in other phases, just like the range of nuances. The main aromatic components are benzyl acetate, linalool and methyl benzonate, in charge of the characteristic scent of the flower.

Ylang ylang flowers are often used in aromatherapy, since they have medical effects: they normalize high blood pressure, they are beneficial for the skin and it is also believed that they have real and strong aphrodisiac effects. Newly weds' beds in Indonesia are decorated by these flowers since it is believed their aromas awake hidden passions.

This flower combines perfectly well with other flowers, fruit, spices and woody accords in perfumery, so it is very good for creating various fragrant nuances.

The harvest of ylang ylang flowers in 2006 was very successful and of high quality. Wide range of notes and aromas inspired the house of Givenchy, which created their limited edition of perfume from this harvest. Aphrodisiac as the central ingredient enriched the classic of the house of Givenchy, Amarige, perfume from 1991, and presented it in 2007 as a sunny, modern, joyful, but very elegant reinterpretation of the original perfume. Amarige Ylang Ylang de Mayotte is perfect from its first to the last nuance and it acts in a very powerful, strong, sparkling way full of self-esteem.

The composition opens with neroli and a breath of freshness from mandarin leaves. Its intensivity and quality are strengthened by the central ingredient, ylang-ylang, yellow and shiny queen of the composition, with gardenia and mimosa as first runner-ups. The base notes introduce warm, creamy accords of sandalwood, they fondle the skin and intensify excitement with hot amber and precious wood.

The whole collection Givenchy Harvest 2006, which arrived on the market in 2007  - Amarige Ylang Ylang de Mayotte 2006, Very Irresistible Givenchy Rosa Centifolia de Chateauneuf de Grasse 2006, as well as Organza Fleur d'Oranger de Nabeul 2006, is available in the same form of package, in three identical glass bottles, which associate to the looks of Givenchy's vintage edition L'Interdit from 1957, advertised by charming Audrey Hepburn.

All three bottles are made of glass, their outside package looks like a cube, while in their interior, on a small throne, there are three bottles. Amarige Ylang Ylang de Mayotte 2006 proudly keeps its fragrant liquid of yellow colour, packed inside a box decorated with heavenly ylang ylang flower, the aromas of which you can feel right away.

The perfume is available only as 60 ml EDT in a limited number and it is already very rare on the shelves of perfume stores. This is really an edition worth your attention!
